Squad for next match

Tried and true, or eye to the future?

Three guys I'd love to see involved are Craig Henderson, Luke Rowe, Jake Spoonely. But I don't know who would miss out. The squad i presume would be smaller than the world cup, so would only need the two keepers.

Just no more Barron or Bannatayne.

Spoonley? Nah surely not. No one rates him on here so he must be rubbish. Much better opting for a world class talent in the making like Gleeson. He's fantastic don't you know.

Three for me, and two for them.

Gleeson has been outstanding for Portland, it would be great to see him involved in the All Whites soon.

If everyone is available and injury free:

1 Paston
2 Sigmund
3 Lochhead
4 Reid
5 Vicelich
6 Nelsen
7 Elliotttt
8 Brown
9 Smeltz
10 Killen
11 Bertos
12 Moss
13 Wood
14 Fallon
15 McGlinchey
16 Smith

Then 2 out of Christie, Brockie, Kosta, Boyens, Clapham, Bright, James, Old, Henderson, Rowe, Peverley and whoever else I've forgotten.

Given up on Oughton returning.

I have a feeling Kosta will make it. He could have a big season with the Roar.

Just as well Luis. I think Gleeson will seriously reach 100 caps before he retires. That's if he can fit time in between winning title after title at Barcelona of course.

Haha. How that Man Utd trial never worked out I'll never know huh

..In all seriousness though, we have two keepers playing professional football, Gleeson will be in a higher league than both of them next year and is only 20. He has potential.

What was the name of that other keeper Rufer got hard over before the World Cup? Marnovic or something?

This might be the guy who is eligible for the U20's. Him, McPeake, Turipa and Carr would be the front runners. Doesn't sound close to All White material yet though.

He definately seems to have a very long way to go to get near an All Whites spot again, quite a shame really.

James should return to the NZFC. If he's a standout there then he can build his career again, he's clearly not cutting it overseas.

I would like these 22 guys:

Goalkeepers:

Paston
Moss
Gleeson

Defenders:

Reid
Nelsen
Smith
Old
Rowe
Boyens

Midfielders:

Bertos
Brown
McGlinchey
Lochhead
Christie
Clapham
Lindsay

Forwards:

Fallon
Smeltz
Killen
Wood
Barbarouses
Brockie

I should give up on Sigmund and Vicelich because I don't think they'll play 2014 WC for their ages.
Also I think Henderson is still injured.

Because it's a one off match storm I think they'll probably only pick 16 with a couple of local guys involved.  That may mean only 2 keepers as well.

Agree re: vicelich but I think Sigmund will still be going.  He had a late start to his pro career and I think there is still plenty of gas in the tank...

Ultimately we need to start blooding some guys in the middle of the park as we are severely lacking in that area.  I'm ok if we treat this game as a celebration but from then on we have to look forward

The interesting one will be Rowe, although maybe he'll be looked at for the Olympics.

Guess it will be mostly the World Cup players unless some of the English-based ones aren't available.

As you say, we need to develop new midfielders, so hope Clapham finally gets a run, along with McGlinchey.

A lot of World Cup sides are seeing action well before we do.
USA are using their international friendly against Brazil on Wednesday (NZ time) to give their World Cup squad a run before home fans, with about two new faces.
On the other hand, Brazil are rebuilding and are retaining few faces from SA.
Two different roads the AWs could follow against Paraguay- but I suspect they'll go with celebrating the South Africa players- and why not?

Duncan hasn't retired and but with Barron having done so I really hope we see him back here.

I would have thought that Brockie would walk into the side given the fact that Ricki enjoyed playing him off the bench in SA.

Personally , I'd like to see Cameron Knowles get a call up and see if he's up to int. standard and yeah while I'd like to see James back in the side, I don't think we would ever see him in the NZFC, I think he's more English then Kiwi.

wont need Bright with Wood, Killen, Smeltz, Barbarouses, plus Brockie who can play up there if necessary. It wont be a 23 man squad like the World Cup.

With Old and Boyens not playing and Knowles still injured I would give a chance to Paul Cunningham who have a good season in Singapoure. With Fallon and Henderson injured , Elliottt and James without clubs for sure Barbarouses would be on my list, but Bright is just returning from injury. At the end I would put Rowe on the list just to see if he can compete with lochhead for the left midfield spot.

He plays in Singapore.  Frankie Mac could have a good season in Singapore.  Is Boxall fit ?

More likely to call up a not playing Old or Boyens.

For starters we won't need three keepers for a two game series. No to Cunnigham. Rowe, maybe, but he's so young, I've come round to thinking he'd be a better pick for the U-20s.

Barbarouses nearly played himself out of my squad over the weekend. He was awful. On my marginal list now. Might get benefit of doubt thanks to good performances earlier in season.

Surely he'll play in at least one of the games. I'd think Ricki will split the keeper duties between him and Pasty.
