This. Would've rather had him than David "I took photos of Ricki crossdressing" Mulligan.

woah, what's this all about?

When is Ricki going to start looking to the future more.  Bring in some new guys.

Think he wants as many as possible from the World Cup for these two matches, so the public can thank them and what not. That's why Fallon will come back in a non-playing role (if he's allowed), and Barron and Bannatyne will be at the game in Wellington.

I expect the next internationals to begin looking forward more.

Id pick Kosta over Clapham or Peverly anyday. He could comfortably play where they both do.

How come Simon Elliottt who is withouth club and Aaron Clapham who wasn't able to secure a place in the A are still in the list? Except Brown and Mcglinchey the central midfield seems pretty weak...

To be fair im sure Elliott could pick up an A-league contract with ease, he wants to keep trying in the states though.

Cmon Abris, club or not (and his circumstances are relatively unique), Elliotttt demonstrated at the World Cup as at the Confed Cup that he is our best midfielder by distance. Granted, match fitness wont be at best.

I should add that I do agree midfield is the problem area, but its more a question of who is stepping up once Elliottt retires.

Kosta is stepping up, he can play as an attacking midfielder or striker, although I reckon ricki has something against kosta, he's never been keen to pick him.

Just be excited to see the boys play again! Sure it would be great to get the ball rolling and get some fresh feet in there but the boys that will be playing all deserve to play at home in front of two packed NZ crowds!

Yes and No. had good start to season but recent games has been v disappointing, turning ball over far too often and making lots of mistakes, which were his problems at the PHoenix. on his day a very sharp, incisive player but has too many off days.
Having said that, can still make a strong case for his inclusion ahead of some of the others.

I think Kosta made a wise crack about Ricki's mother and Ricki's ignored him ever since.

Ricki just needs to watch the Brisbane v Wellington game again. In a squad with only three out and out strikers, we could have done with the cover. I know Ricki wanted players who were in the set up at the FIFA World Cup, but I'd much prefer someone who's been playing at a decent level to someone who hasn't been playing at all.

Its pretty much the World Cup squad minus Bannatyne, Barron and Fallon and including Peverly who was there as cover anyway for Timmy.

Almost seems more like a World Cup reunion party for the boys but to be fair, for those of us who didn't go to SA, it will be great to see the team we watched on TV in the flesh. I would think these will be Elliottt's and Vicilich's last games. Time to start building towards Brazil 2014 and blood some new players. I was really hoping McGlinchy might start in one of these games and maybe Chris Wood as well.

although i agreei think we should take these games more seriously.....

i think the results are very important here
even though ricky doesn't think so

if we dont get some results we drop out of top 50 again. and not to mention lose the momentum we built up from the WC

Results are important here, but not for the ranking. Who gives a sh*t what our ranking is? Doesnt mean anything anyway. Point is if we dont perform well the general public will just go "was a fluke" and continue the bashing. Building results will get the general public more interested

To be honest i'm quite pleased he's stuck with the same side. If it's all about proving ourselves after the world cup then let the same players do the job.

We have the games like Fiji in thee ONC and WCQ where the younger guys should get a run.

ive got a song that wont take long, Adelaide are rubbish.. the second verse is same as the first.. ADELAIDE ARE RUBBISH

I was lead to believe top 50 ranking is better for our players to get work permits overseas? No? Yes?

How can Ricki call up players who play in an amateur competition leaving out some professionals?

I hoped to see some young,like Rowe,Lindsay.
Can't unterstand why Mulligan is there.

he shouldnt need to prove himself by scoring goals, hes not a striker. he had the most assists out of anyone at the Nix last season, why do people insist on failing to see this?

these games are rewarding the players and fans that got the AW's to the world cup, I doubt we'll see mulligan and co in the squad the next qualifying games, especially given muly hasn't got a team to play for - he hasn't actually payed a game for Auckland fC yet has he?

Er, no, because the ASB Prems haven't started yet.

New Zealand Football: Lochhead to miss October internationals

October 22, 2010

AUCKLAND - A groin injury will keep All Whites defender Tony Lochhead out of the ASB International Series fixtures against Honduras and Paraguay in October.

Lochhead will see a specialist on Thursday about a torn left adductor, which may require surgery and could keep the Wellington Phoenix fullback out of action for between eight to 16 weeks, ruling him out of New Zealands matches on October 9 in Auckland and three days later in Wellington.

The injury is not a recurrence of the groin injury Lochhead had surgery on prior to the FIFA World Cup, but was still frustrating for the 37-cap defender who played every minute of the All Whites unbeaten campaign in South Africa.

Its always tough sitting on the sidelines but the important thing is to get myself right, said Lochhead.

Playing for New Zealand is always special and these games have a little bit extra about them playing at home so close to the World Cup.

We havent had two teams of this calibre here for quite some time so its frustrating to miss these two big fixtures.

Lochhead is the second World Cup All White to be ruled out of the ASB International Series through injury with Rory Fallon recuperating from a hernia operation. Ricki Herbert will not call up a replacement for Lochhead, and instead the squad will remain at 20 players.

Yesterday, Herbert named the rest of his World Cup squad minus the retired Andy Barron and James Bannatyne for the matches against the fellow FIFA World Cup finalists.

Tommy Smith would start at the back anyway. Just gives Brockie, Clapham or Peverley a chance to start a bit wider.

likely lineup to start with Locky gone:

                Paston
         reid - Nelsen - Smith
bertos                               Brockie
             Elliott          Brown
                     Smeltz
         wood                   killen

Brockie at left back? Are you kidding me?

Three for me, and two for them.

I think it'd more likely be this

Paston/Moss
Reid Sigmund Nelsen Smith
Bertos Elliottt Brown Brockie
        Smeltz Killen

Or get rid of Sigmund and play Wood up front with Smeltz behind the strikers.

Oh left wing. Yeah could see him playing there in that formation. Sorry just in your post it makes him look like more of a full back, my mistake.

yeah i know, i was kinda following the way we played in the WC, you know where leo, an attacking midfield player was essentially a right back the whole time

don't like the 3-4-3 it always ends up  being a 5-2-2-1 maybe that's why we had the fewest shots at goal at the world cup...
