Ah Well. I dont so much hate the song, but the version i saw on Close Up was rather Cringe.

I will be sticking to "Heading for the Top" for the time being.

I was thinking something more upbeat. Get Sommerset (back together) to write and perform it

Even something like Elemeno P could have done a decent job. The song aint bad, but more reflective than uplifting.

Love Millencolin's song for their local club, Orebro (or Pennybridge for those in the know )

The main thing is they do a decent video and get the players involved. I was hoping for something original- in a country as creative as ours you'd  think it could be done. Anyhow lets go with it and hope that people get behind it.

Is this some sort of sick joke? Stan f**king Walker doing our World Cup song. He's probably never watched a game of football in his life, or sung a decent song for that matter. Would only make sense if it was for like a preteen girl world cup and even then he's not that popular.

^^^being a bit harsh on Stan Walker. He has talent (even if he's not your taste of music), just not what us and football fans expected. Scottishbhoy2010-04-20 22:42:24

Never seen so much negativity in my life.  However, not surprised.  Whinging on YF has reached incredible new levels, led by some of the mods I must say.

Farewell.

this is something you can sing along to while drinking a beer (or 5)

this gay crap is a song that is the basis for overthrowing the nzf and bringing back the death penalty

i agree with chocnut only that this could never possibly make sense

^^ agreed with News. The Close Up link isn't available yet but it seemed from the story that Michael Glading "went through his music collection and chose the song" .. although he does have background in music promotion I think, surely there was more to it than that???!!!

I dont mind Stan at all.

Must only have one album in his collection!!

I actually quite like the original but not this sh*t version.  Could they have not got the person who won Beauty and the Geek  or the Bachelor to sing it?

I thought the song choice was ok but why have it covered. Maybe they didn't want to look like they were copying the RWC by using the Feelers as well.

Still think they should have got Wynton Rufer to sing "We're the All Whites and we're on our way to Spain. We'll score goals goals goals and we'll score some more again...."

Well, i haven't heard it, but I can't imagine it's good.

Of course,  there is still time for a decent NZ band to come up with an original , unofficial song to usurp NZF's effort. This happens all the time in other countries. We certainly have the talent, but does anybody have the motivation?

Second this. I don't have anything against Stand Up per se, or Stan Walker, but as a footballing song, is it an 'all together now' piece which can be belted out by fans on the terraces?   Will it capture the imagination of a nation?  Let's hope so! I guess it might not have been my own first choice but I'm prepared to give it a go.

I like it, its a good song and Walker is a talented singer.

Yeah it could have been better but I think this is stirring and a good effort!

Anyone for a Violin and some tissues...maybe a razor blade? iit's as if the All Whites have already lost all three group games by the sound of this song. This is not an anthem, it's a funeral.

The latest from the feelers is that they got a 10k video grant from NZ on air and pissed it away in the Fiji islands - they bought a crappy camcorder and filmed themselves looking like burnt beached whales. They are sluts to the industry so I'm not suprised that theyve popped up again in a dealing with CEO's that think they are record producers too.

I mean, good on them for attracting conservative musically uncultured folk accross the nation, that's why theyve had so many fans throughout the years because there are undoubtedly many of those people in NZ.

Dont get me wrong, I really liked Pressure Man...when I was 10 years old.

It seems like a cop-out from Glading, not ballsy enough to feel the force and ends up taking the safest option available "We'll choose a Feelers song because it's a failsafe in that most middle class new zealanders like the Feelers so even if the song doesnt portray the emotion needed - it's still a Feelers song so that's ok."

100% NZ MUSIC - Get over it, get it right. Some football people have been waiting 28 years for this - it's not time to stand up for communal service - it's time to get the f**k out of your seats and cheer the boys home, this is huge. These are exciting times, but you wouldnt have thought so by the choice of this song.

If the boys listen to this before every match Ricki will have to bring a bigger squad because half of them will have fallen asleep and the others having an emotional meltdown.

I propose a remake (if you have to!), of Fatboy Slim's 'Right Here, Right Now'. Now that is something that sends shivers down the spine before a match. (Funilly enough, the same title as that terrible Jesus Jones track).

See here to get your proper sonic elation for the mighty all whites.

The Feelers are laughing all the way to the bank.

just listened to it and it's not as bad as I thought it would be, but it is still too slow and not very inspiring. could we not have had maybe shihad try and cover it. I'm sure they'd add more passion and get more into it.

Stan Walker is a good singer etc... but just not the right voice for an anthem imo

reserved judgment until now in order to avoid knee jerk, but no, I am not a fan. if it wasnt going to be fast tempo and something we can have a laugh about and sing along it had to be uplifting i reckon. its not in my view. it may grow on me but not yet.

i wonder what the objectives and commercial interests are? There is a market that will buy something sung by Walker and perhaps that's what Glading is after, rather than a song for the fans. It would be good for a journo to ask what stake NZF has in the song?

No, it's a cover of a song that you don't like. That is a million miles from making it a terrible song.

I haven't heard it yet but regardless of the song I think it shd be something by an iconic kiwi band (one that chooses to be based in NZ rather than oz like Stan)

No, there are a lot of truly terrible songs I like.

The Feelers have not made one song that has a modicum of musical worth.

That's just your opinion, so you can never speak for others. There are a heap of people that buy their songs that think they are extremely worthwhile
I am not one of them, but I also don't tell others what songs are good and bad, it's an opinion

....and on a forum we wouldn't want people saying there opinions would we?

I like the Feelers, but if El Grap thinks they're terrible he can bloody well say it.

Perhaps we should add IMO to the end of every sentence just to be 100% there isn't some f**kwit out there who hasn't quite worked that out. IMO That's what we should do.

On a sidenote just because its an opinion doesn't mean it's not right (or wrong for that matter)... If I say in my opinion the world is flat my opinion is wrong.
