Obviously they have let all the players know that they are being called up (I hope) and Mexico's released their squad to play us so why can't Nzfootball name our squad? It's not like we have anything to hide from Mexican spies.. half our team is coming back from injury or injured. Maybe they just want to keep it a secret to keep the Mexican's guessing?

It was all over the a league website that one.

I think we haven't released it yet as RH probably doens't know whether to drop Clapham, Butler or Christie, or just take them all along.

Mexico have selected their entire squad without a single overseas based played. Wowsers. In particular, no Javier Hernandez

I think we have a brilliant shot at beating those Mexicans. They obviously think they can win without overseas based players, well I think they're going to be in for a shock!

Calm your tits. Why are you so eager to know. Its not hard to guess the starting 11 and the people that are likely to get on the pitch.

Still waiting.

Who  cares?

Ummm you realise we are playing Mexico right?

My point was that Patrick had called them wowsers for not picking any overseas players. Better for us, so who cares.

That was an expression of surprise, not calling them anything.

But i thought you said a number of times that their Mexican based players would be just as good?

I'm leaning more and more in the direction that you do know your stuff, but are a massive WUM.

Three for me, and two for them.

They are deciding whether to show it live or delay it three hours until after the golf replay.

Fuck this stupid game

Here is the relevant regulation anyway.

b) qualifying matches for an international tournament:

– four days (including the day of the match). The release period shall be extended to five days if the match concerned is held in  a different confederation to the one in which the player’s club is registered;

Which is interesting. The game is in Mexico on the Wednesday, but Thursday here. 5 days from Thursday would be Sunday. So looks like it is a bit of a tough break for us because we are close to the dateline.

As I said in the chch thread. Will NZF be going to West Ham, Ipswich and Leicester and saying Reid, Smith and Wood can't play next weekend?

Hope so. If they are within their rights under the FIFA rules I hope they will.

THis is a key point ....

Subsequent to the A-League draw being made, the first leg against Mexico was brought forward to November 13. The first day of the release window is November 9.

It was originally away on Nov 14 and home on Nov 19 wasn't it? And FIFA adjusted that due to the stupidity of it?

Think so, but can't remember now. It was definitely down for 14/15 TBC at the start.

Can't see how people can blame the Phoenix for this. I understand they are looking at chartering a plane to see if NZF are happy with that instead of the 8:20pm flight.

The thing I really like about this is that

A) their players haven't really done much long distance travel, whereas the europe based players are used to flying to a qualifier after a club game etc.. with little prep time and

B) these guys won't be used to wind/temp/horizontal rain that Wellington can turn on, on a regular occurance.. If we can get back home in the second leg with the game still acheivable then we have to be a decent chance I feel.

Very true. Remember when Boca Juniors came to play us ? They didn't even get on the pitch to warm up because it was cold and wet.
