Has a real life job. Some one told me he was a big player at Orix vehicle leasing but I am not sure if that is correct or I am confusing him with someone else. Something to do with vehicles...
Football wise he was the coach at Onehunga Sports until he told them to stick it over a bar room brawl I heard.

If I were to guess as to why the team has not been named, I would guess its because

A: clubs have not been told their players are required and/or

B: clubs are refusing to release players for anything other than the Trinidad game which is at odds with NZFs intentions for this camp of time together

I think it's been well established that this is a mess so why shoot at dead horses...

Unfortunately Jeff these wild horses are well and truely alive and go by the name of Fred and Frank. Unless you want them galloping around the field for the next 4 years, it is indeed time to fire a shot and put them down

if your so sure about how easy this would have been to organise put your hand up mate.

The disappointing thing Chopah, and has been mentioned, its not like this window came out of the blue and its not like we did not know a long time ago that we were facing a team from CONCACAF.

Don't defend it, NZF get a brick bat. Stop defending Fred when its not defensible. Yes Fred has a sniff around your shed at Ellerslie and he will share some stories with you but look at it with your own eyes. If he was organised, this would have been jacked up a long while ago and not a week out. Men in high up positions don't do things by the seat of their pants. Saying 'well its not easy to organise' - we could have picked other international teams if CONCACAF was so difficult to jack up. The point of the exercise is time together as a team and formations and playing two club sides is hardly going to help when the players' clubs are anti-releasing them.

Is Fred still going to be commentating Nix games this season? I feel so sorry for the people who have to watch Nix home games on TV.

yeah sure mate - cuz your opinion is what counts.
I haven't spoken to Fred about any of this - the only thing I know about it is that we have had to reschedule an Ellerslie AFC meeting several times as he was under pressure trying to sort out games etc.
The only thing I want to point out is this - NZF have pretty much halved their staff in the past couple of months, including the resignation of the CEO.  Now my question is how come all the fingers are being pointed at Fred who as far as I can tell is doing his best to steady the ship and is doing a role that I don't think was part of his JD when he signed up.  I do agree the situation is far from ideal but I don't think it's down to just one or two people fucking it up.
I also know that people are not jumping out of their skin to play a team who don't pull a decent crowd, want some expenses covered and one of their players carries out amateur kung fu moves in friendly games - hardly an attractive proposition.
If you want to keep on your Fred crusade - go for it - I just think there could be plenty of worse people and we would be worse off if it wasn't for Fred in this particular circumstance.

i also don't believe Ivan is up to it - not because he might be our best defensive mid but because if we play a 3-5-2 you don't need a DM - you need two box to box midfielders and Ivan isn't that at all.  he might be our 4th or 5th best centre back and for that reason he might make the squad but don't play the DM card.

Well its funny you say that because Ricki is so desperate, he has bought back Christie so yes, he has been through the whole of NZ!!!!! (lets throw in the Killen and Durante experiements, Christie, Butler, James, Peverley) The only ones left are Mulligan and Coombes....

The reality is, he has scraped the barrel and going back for seconds. Ivan is our best DM. Its a sad fucking state of affairs, but its the truth.

I'm calling it how I see it:
I see a guy thats has been seconded from the board in Mark Aspden as interim CEO and has said he is interested in keeping the role long term yet never utters one peep in public around NZF. That guy has played it very very smart.
I see Fred being the mouth piece for all of these decisions. If they are not his, then why is he speaking up for them and not putting them back at the interim CEO or FVH to justify? I assume someone has to rubber stamp charging the kids $2k and playing some club sides or does he have carte blanche?
If they have halved the staff, then why are they pushing through with trying to bill these kids to play? If the staff wage bill is coming down and not being filled, there is money in the kitty (not much, but not exactly bare) unless NZF are actually in a lot more shit financially than they advertise (and has been mentioned many times on this forum)
How long has he been under pressure to fill these games? When we stitched it up against New Cal in late March knowing there was a play off in a FIFA window in Oct/Nov, no one thought 'Fuck, we should get the team together around these dates PDQ'. Really?

My opinion may not count for fuck all, but the evidence in the public domain is pretty damning and overwhelming. Again, find one person that has said 'That guy Fred, has done a good job'. For a guy that has not spoken to Fred, I'm intrigued why you feel, in your opinion, he is 'doing his best to steady the ship'. His job is High Performance Director, not saviour of NZF. Thats FVH and Mark Aspdens job. If he focuses on his job and does it properly, the rest of it is not his problem. Simplistic, but true. I might add, if he was doing his job properly, we would be playing some international teams and not some club sides.

If you think I am on a Fred crusade, thats cool. Stop smelling the flowers for a moment and you will find he had very few fans if any anywhere.

more accurately i am insinuating that others are also responsible for this shambles - I'm not saying Fred is spotless in this mess but picture this:

your an international company based in NZ dealing with both national and international operations and your board sacks half the office because the feeling is that there are too many people for the amount of work required.  Then the CEO quits (or is pushed) and all of a sudden the staff that are left are now dealing with their own role plus other portfolio's.

I don't know who exactly is responsible but in my opinion it's not just Fred to blame -  it's just he has been given the job of fronting all the crappy media releases they have done lately.

Interesting. Do you think Ricki will play a 3-5-2 though? I agree he is not a get up and down the pitch player for sure but even within a 3-5-2, playing 2 x box to box guys (and I am making an assumption the other midfielder is Wee Mac and then two strikers) leaves the back 3 exposed and if you consider that the wingmen are likely to be Bertos and Lochead based on what Ricki has always done, that leaves the back 3 awfully exposed with out a DM. I can't think of two box to box guys in NZ - Payne? Howieson?

Now if you want to talk overall governance at NZF and the sorry state its in, thats a separate and unrelated subject and I agree, others have a big part to play in why the organisation is in such a shit state of affairs but lets not lump in goverance issues at NZF and the decision to charge kids to play and the trips away with the AWs anywhere else.

i talk to Fred - about Ellerslie AFC stuff and like i said he mentioned to me he had to reschedule a meeting due to working on games for the AW's - that's the extent of the knowledge I have of NZF from talking to Fred - not the extent of my knowledge completely.
I'm not going to get into a blame game - I don't know if they are Fred's calls on the youth charge and I don't know if doing the AW's games was even part of his JD or if he has been handed that and the media fronting one as well - but neither do you.  who else is to blame?  i don't know - why do we need to blame anyone in particular - why can't the whole thing just be wrong and we can look at it as one big problem - that's where the overall governance isn't a seperate issue - it's THE issue in my mind - does Fred have to take some flack in that - yeah probably, like I said i don't know the inner workings and i doubt you do either.  But if it feels better to blame someone then that's your call.

Any one know where the AW vs Chivas and Mexican club teams are at?. Coz it seems from the NZF website that they have been cancelled and they are now in camp for a week before the T & T game.....I might be wrong but thats my reading of it!  Anyone else got any idea?

As for Tuiloma. I have seen him play twice recently at OM. Very good prospect but very very underdeveloped. The kid is only 18 and playing age group stuff at OM for only a couple of months. There is quite a buzz here in Marseille about his selection. People are pleased for him but the general opinion is that he is way too young and under developed for international football.....which I would agree with 100%.

But this is NZ. We dreg up players with no clubs or no current form so any pro like  Tuiloma was always going to be on the radar. His selection is more about the current depth of NZ football than anything else.

I'll take that.

If I'm so wrong, it should be easy to refute. No one has ever accused Fred of not doing his best. You could perhaps make a correlation that his best, is rubbish and just like the kid that comes last in the spelling bee, he might actually be giving it an A for effort but its not good enough. Thats a governance issue for NZF to sort if Fred is out of his depth in the role he has.

Yes it was worth my time. I am passionate about football and any discussion around that is well worth my time. You can call it whinging if you like but then I think your opinion suffers from being too close to Fred. Its not like you are going to slag him in a public forum now are you?

If you really ignore me for one moment and read everyone else's opinion, find someone that supports what Fred is doing. The answer is, you wont. If that does not give you a clue (taking eveything else aside that I have said and that I am so wrong/full of shit/negative) then it should be obvious what is going on.

yep it's obvious - it's either bandwagon jumping or tall poppy syndrome depending on the poster.

i still reckon we'll have 3 back...

moss

reid - durante - smith

bertos - mcglinchey - vicelich - lochhead

barbarouses - brockie - henderson

(replace the front 3 with smeltz, wood and rojas and you have our first xi)

I must admit, a back 3 scares me. Also Lochead and Bertos near our starting XI too but you are talking from Rickis perspective obviously....

why do so many people have it in for peverley?  technically he's quite good,he works hard and tackles well.  i watched him play a few weeks ago and he gave muscat a damn hard game physically and was far superior in regards to moving the ball effectively

the players who get picked on here seem to be the nzfc players and the grafters.  peverley is both.

I think Peverley is a good footballer. I do rate him

HOWEVER

He does a ton of rash dumb shit that is just indefensible. At ASBP, those things you can get away with and not be punished. Against quality international competition, they will punish you every single time. Its like he is technically proficient but then has these frequent brain meltdowns so I have to ask if he is just the unlucky guy or the dumb ass that never learns? 3 years ago, he was in some great form. As of the last 2 years, I think he needs to go on like some 'biggest loser' comp whereby he grabs a black magic marker and writes in big fuck off letters on both arms and the back of both hands 'DON"T KICK HIM, KICK THE BALL' and thats his entire focus.

fine - by the way congratulations -  all your fucking whinging isn't going to do fuck all - hope it was worth your time.

By the way I like being positive about things and I also like believing that people are mostly doing their best - call me naive if you want but it's better than being a whinger

If i had proof that he was directly and mainly responsible for one of these errors I would question it - um no i wouldn't slag him off as i don't think this is what one should do on this kind of forum about anyone (present company included).
let me ask you a question - is leadership the issue? and if it is, who is supposed to be the leader and where and why are they failing?

If I were to guess as to why the team has not been named, I would guess its because

A: clubs have not been told their players are required and/or

B: clubs are refusing to release players for anything other than the Trinidad game which is at odds with NZFs intentions for this camp of time together

I think it's been well established that this is a mess so why shoot at dead horses...

Unfortunately Jeff these wild horses are well and truely alive and go by the name of Fred and Frank. Unless you want them galloping around the field for the next 4 years, it is indeed time to fire a shot and put them down

if your so sure about how easy this would have been to organise put your hand up mate.

i'd love that job and i'd be fuckin good at it...

kidding btw...

That's what I took from it aswell. As for Tuiloma I agree he is a bit young etc.. but we don't really have another option for RB, in saying that he has been playing holding midfield lately so that is another option for Herbert in the middle but think Keat and Henderson will possibly be tried there before him.

I agree with you that there is some serious issues at NZF as a whole. You can list that as the coach, the scheduling of tours, the charging of players, no CEO, budget cuts, in the financial quagmire..... a boatload of stuff that is not related to what Fred is doing. I read an article JD posted before that we are about to have our 4th CEO in 5 years. That is mind blowing. However issues like this have a catalyst. Fred has not been around for most of them so as I said before, I think the goverance issue at NZF and what is going on now, are separate. The u17s charging fiasco.... Fred. This trip which has shambles written all over it.... Fred. I'm not blaming him for the financial crisis NZF is facing but he is certainly the guy that cops the shit for the recent decisions and I've already justified why.

I'll give you a different scenario. Lets say that none of this is Fred fault. Lets say he has no decision making in this process and just makes the suggestions and the board or someone else rubber stamp them. Why are they not fronting the media? FVH is not shy about talking if you mention FIFA EXCO in the conversation. Aspden is his interim boss and CEOs are generally the mouth piece of the organisation... Why not one of those two fronting...?

maybe because they are smart enough like you said earlier to know a dead horse when they see it and they want to stay clear of the rough times and hope they can stick around for a while longer.  That's more blame that i wanted to give to anyone - but it's just a theory - it could be way off base or it could be true - i don't know...

yes I am - it was an overly reactive post to your one..
btw have you actually gone back and counted the amount of times you have asked people if they have read what they have written (or some variant of that), i don't know about you but I look at the screen while I type mostly so i get to see what I write in real time :-)

looks a lot like that to me (fred copping the flack on behalf of others)

fred seems like a reasonable bloke and he's obviously not stupid

but since he has come on board, the visible aspects of NZF's operation have not been good and that reflects badly on him

but hey, maybe he found a giant mess and has made it less of a mess? who knows

we really do need to be looking at frank.  i always liked that guy, but like fred, the visible aspects are not good

there's plenty to be positive about with nz footy right now.  i reckon our player base is better than ever and is going to keep getting better.  but i just think we could be doing a whole lot better administratively.  head office risks undermining all of the progress being made in terms of the quality of player we are now producing compared to 10 years ago

Sorry but Ivan is still clearly the best DM we have and probably ever have had. He is still a class player in my opinion and completely deserves to be in this team.

was very immobile 4 years ago. So Ricki played a plan that had him marking a dot in the midfield so they couldn't run or pass through there. And having Ryan Nelsen, Winston Reid and Tommy Smith behind him. Which is still very handy in anyone's book. I'm sure many PL managers wouldn't sneeze at that trio in their defence.
