"Ironically we've ended up with, more or less, if we could have written down our dream outcome, it's not too far away from what we're doing,'' Aspden said.

Wow! Wouldn't have picked that. I guess at least he's speaking for once.

Jez Christie was on radio sport today talking up the camp to date. Had nice things to say about Ricki and all. Was on between 4 and 5pm

Yeah I listened to that too. Couldn't believe I was listening to (a clubless) Jeremy Christy talk about being in an All Whites camp, who are preparing for a WC qualifier! Wtf! And of course he had nice things to say about Herbert!

Fuck this stupid game

Considering that Fred has been on record as saying we wanted 2 Internationals - one home and one away - I'm not sure how he can say that with a straight face, well actually he can say it but I don't know how anyone could buy that

Because you can't always get what you want JD.
This is a good article with a few insightful comments from Peter Miskimmin, head of Sport NZ:
Obviously the lead up to this window has been a shambles but he makes a good point about resilience! Plenty of sports teams deliberately create conditions of adversity to train in and the All Whites have had that in spades.

Kind of glad we're not playing Queretaro, and not surprised at their hissy fit. Anything to derail our chances against their national side.

"But the biggest thing is qualify for the Confederations Cup. If we had won the Oceania Nations Cup we wouldn't be in this situation. We would have played at the Confederations Cup, had a good programme and had US$1 million in the bank. That changes the whole scenario.''

Exactly. Finally some bloody honesty in this fiasco. They could have forked over the 500k to host it and still been 800k better off with a confeds programme. That was McKavanaghs fault and showed what a short sighted fuckwit he was.

wonder if there will be any coverage at all of the training games?

Puts things in perspective - all proceeds from the Trinidad & Tobago game are going to support this T & T international who obviously will never play again, even if he survives:

BREAKING NEWS: ADAMS LOSES LEFT LEG IN LIFE SAVING SURGERYBy Multimedia Desk

Story Created: Oct 8, 2013 at 12:36 PM

National footballer Akeem Adams, 22, had his left leg amputated last night during what was described as a life saving surgery.

Adams, who plays professionally with Hungarian first division team, Ferencvárosi, suffered a massive heart attack last month and was listed as being in critical condition.

A release posted on the team's official website, www.fradi.hu, stated: "Akeem Adams, 22-year-old player of Ferencvárosi Torna Club went through a life saving surgery this night, during which his lower left limb has been amputated due to the mortification of limb muscles.

This unfortunate event is the consequence of the player's massive heart attack suffered one and a half week ago and the complication arose due to the collapse of his circulation. This surgery prevented the immediate threat to life.

The surgery was successful, the circulation of Akeem Adams is stabilized but his condition is still dangerous, life threatening".

Maybe T&T FA should stream the game on a pay-per-view basis to raise additional funds, I'm sure plenty of us would donate to watch the game.

A very good idea but they may get more money if Sky TV pay for the rights. T & T Football Federation are probably already locked into a deal with local TV to broadcast their games just as NZF is with Sky here.

I've just sent Sky TV an enquiry asking whether they're screening the match.

Enquiry form here (don't have to be a Sky subscriber to use it):

Comments to Trinidad & Tobago Football Federation here (sympathy for Adams, online streaming ideas etc.):

This charity match has real significance when you consider the player didn't have health insurance:

" TTFA president Tim Kee added that Adams’ unfortunate circumstance has caused the TTFA to consider letting its legal department peruse any new contract offered by foreign club to local player and to include a basic stipulation that there must have full insurance coverage and protection for footballers before international clearance is granted."

I asked SKY the question too, here is their response;

We're currently sorting out the specifics with the host broadcaster. We will update here (twitter) when we have more news.

Sounds positive.

You would probably be better asking Sommet Sport via their Facebook page as they are regularly showing live WCQ games, and often make last minute decisions based on viewer demand/requests

Sky TV's reply to me today re Trinidad & Tobago game:

"Thank you for your email.

If we can find a host broadcaster (that will deliver good quality pictures) for this game then we will be airing it, nothing to confirm yet, so please just keep checking the epg (electronic programme guide) on the decoder for any updates."

We struggled against amateur pacific island sides in games that were crucial. No surprises here.

To be fair, I don't think it is all Ricki Herberts fault, the players seem to show a lack of drive every time I see them play.

ventura advertised it as 'behind closed doors'.  apparently they only have a small fence so it'll be funny to hear how that worked out for them as well.
