The under 17 womens side have a game in Wellington against Columbia during the under 17 world cup. I have been lucky enough to have watched these girls both train and play a number of times over the last few months and have been massively impressed with how hard they have been working leading up to this world cup. There are some superbly talented players in this side and I have no doubt that many are going to be in for a pleasant suprise at just how good the standard of play will be.

You will not be disappointed if you go to support these girls. Their dedication and the amount of work and sacrifices they have made leading up to this tournament would astound most people, they absolutely deserve the NZ football community's support.

Hopefully you mad buggers in Welly can turn out and give them the same insanely brilliant support you give the Phoenix. Get the word out early to help build numbers at the game. They are in the toughest group and Columbia are one of the big favourites, you lot might just be the difference that helps them beat Columbia.

You wont be disappointed

Some decent jailbait in there too from what I could tell.

Possibly.

I"ve asked this before, any of those White Noise t-shirts still hanging around?

I'm going to see the U17s on Saturday, they're playing the curtain raiser for the Northern League v Brisbane game at Papakura.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

12pm Thurs 30
followed by Korea V Nigeria on same ticket KO at 3.00pm

One of the tactics employed to encourage workers to get along to the first game (its Engl V Brazil FFS!) is to look at it as a 'long fitness lunch'- take off at 11.30-11.45 for a stroll to the stadium, catch a quality game and the stroll back- Dept of Labour is backing the idea and is encouraging employers to get behind it.

BTW 6000 tickets have already been sold through schools for this match- if we get a  walk up of 4-5,000 then we will blow away the other centres and stake a further claim as the football capital of Aotearoa

Afraid not, mine is on the wall at the Backbencher.

We have contemplated some new ones, but at this stage only contemplated.

I'll just wear my white Nix shirt. It's Auckland, they'll never notice the difference

yep- all at 'wellington' stadium (clean venue contract)

$35 gets a season pass to all 8 games at the stadium, or $10 per match day (2 games)

I ordered tickets for all the Wellington matches except for the Auckland Marathon weekend. As I will be in Auckland for that, I ordered tickets for the Saturday matches at NHS instead.

The only thing is that the email from TicketDirect said
"All Tickets will be confirmed and delivered in early September."

And I have not heard anything yet... what is it with NZ ticket agencies and an inability to deliver tickets for football according to promised dates?

It is a good idea and hopefully loads of people can get along, but for me i work in the Hutt so too many of the "long fitness lunches" would soon lead to an appointment @ winz for the dole

Is it me or does there seem to be a lack of publicity/marketing within Wellington over this event?
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Doesn't seem to be a huge amount of publicity North of the Bombays either..

You are probably right, although TV ads started on Sky last night so the marketing plan is kicking into gear.

out of interest what would you liek to see done to get the word out? What media do you take an interest in?

personally speaking this forum is of massive help in spreading and finding info

Ads in the DomPost /  Stuff website - big reach in the Wellington area.
Something in the Hutt News and other local papers.
Banners - a la Phoenix last season - down Lambton Quay.
I know that the Hutt council have just been approached and are going to come to the party.
A team parade through citycentre might be an idea.

Actually it will be well worth going along and supporting the team.....not very often we get major tournaments in NZ.

Its a real shame that Wellington does not have a smaller dedicated football stadium where you get to sit close to the field. They will probably only get 1000 or so to this game. A crowd like taht gets lost in a big stadium like ROF.

I would rather watch the Phoenix play in a 75% full small stadium than sit with 7000 at the ROF which holds 35000. Get rid of the running track at Newtown and build a nice compact 10000 seat  football stadium

all good points-i get my info from community papers like Wellingtonian.

banners are going up again next week (WOW has been city focus)
team parade was mooted and may still happen- problem is all teams arrive at different times and just want to get one with training at closed sites.

so apart from those general strategies like banners the real strategy is to focus is on first game/s Engl-Brazil and Korea-Nigeria- we already have 6000+ at that and if we break 10,000, mostly kids, they will pull their parents back for match days 3,4 & 5. Like the Beckham training its about giving those kids an amazing football experience that gets them hooked. YF can play its part by gettign involved (which it has to great effect)-get down to game one and BLOW the kids away with the vocal support

(just leave out the rude word!)

Choose a team Eng or Bra and get in behind them!

so yeah, the exposure will start amping up from this week really....thanks Dairy Flat
