I only fear that certain Western Samoan.  Apart from him - I'd fancy us to be honest.

Honestly, I think that out of all of the teams at the WC we would have the best chance against Aussie. Like in the cricket, they may be superior to us but we will always lift that extra couple of notches for any game against Aussie

Im happy that both NZ and Aust will be at the world cup.  Its fantastic

Us Aussies are actually excited at the fact of us being drawn in the same group together. We didn't exactly smash Bahrain in our 2 world cup qualifiers agains't them so I don't see why NZ wouldn't be able to upset us or quite a few other teams in South Africa

It's good to have any Trans-Tasman rivalry, but I'm not really fussed for the WC. As in '82 it will be a chance to square up with the big boys and see how much of a credible performance we can put in against them.

However if we do end up in the same group it will be fantastic. (Maybe we could have a warm-up match at RoF)

Oh I think we have a great chance against Aussie. Some of there players are in the A-league. I also think that qualifying for the WC will help them in there bid to host the 2018 WC.

Same, but as far as football goes, NZ comes first so I'd be hoping for an AWs win!

Imagine if both team get to the second round. That Aussie WC bid would be much more sweet then.

The pools are seeded:
RSA + Top 7
European Teams
Asian + North American
African + South American

Unfortunately we count as an 'Asian' team so we can't draw Australia. However we can draw South Africa, Switzerland and Paraguay, which would be the easiest draw for the second round.

Yeah I'd rather draw decent teams than Aussie (no disrespect).

Actually just realize one thing: If Costa Rica beat Uruguay, South America will have 2 teams in a pot (Brazil and Argentina will be top seeds of their groups) 5 Africans and New Zeland. And if they decide that England should not be a seeded team, that (Aus, NZL, ENG and RSA being in the same group) might actually happen.

If this is true that would be amazing!

Roll on the draw!!!

Sorry, not sure who you're talking about. No Samoans in our squad.

To be fair it can be confusing at times though, like your mate Smeltzy the German born Australian.

So who is Tim Cahill??????
An Australian footballer who plays club football for Everton. Like many influential Australian footballers, he was born in Sydney.

Thanks for asking.

Yet he played for Western Samoa Youth team before he grab hold of the FIFA free transfers for former youth internationals to change nationality in a one year window in 2004. He is Samoan.

He played for them when he was 14. He was born and raised in Australia FFS.

How about McGlinchy? Can you say the same for him? How about when Smeltz went home to the Gold Coast? Glass houses and all that.

i think awb was pointing out that you were the one in the glasshouse by saying what you did about smeltz and hinting at other players in the squad.

Allegedly

Uhh, I was responding to an earlier comment questioning Tim Cahill's nationality. A comment that gets made almost every time the 'roos are mentioned on this forum.

But apologies all the same.

Against Oman in the Asian Cup on Sat. (Oz were lucly to win) there were two A league players- both of them had been playing in Europe for top clubs.
I don't think the AW's with their eight local players would be in with a chance.

I rate Australia as being not too far behind England (provided Australia has its top squad).  NZ are nowhere near either of those sides, our best hope would be points against South Africa but they have the twelfth man and they played us inside-out at the Confederations (admittedly we were garbage in that game).

Audtralia are pretty good but not on the same planet as England.

so you rate the likes of Beckham, Lampard, Gerard, J.Cole/Milner in the same category as :

Culina, Grella, Emerton, Bresciano

or J.Terry compared with C.Moore.

W.Rooney compared with B.Holmen/ S.Mcdonald

don't think so.

England ranked- 7
Australia ranked- 24

i disagree, but to each their own.

Dream group. Would love to get RSA in the opener. The game reeks of upset. Australia isn't impossible and if it happened I would be at the airport letting geezers know WHO WE ARE

Their rankings aren't so far apart that Aussie couldn't beat England. Champion team vs team of champions etc

Australia do have that big game mentality for sure- check 2006. Tim Cahill is an absolute legend, any aussie fan like to share how many last minute goals he's nabbed?

Exactly- let's forget this trans-tasman rivalry for the moment. Important thing is that we're both going to SA.
