What's going to happen to Herbert now?

Yeah he's done so much for us both with the NIX's and the AW's that one can only hope he gets something out of it but I still hope he stays as NZ's coach and they find extra money for him. In so many of his interviews this week both him and the players have had such pride about representing us and he would never get the same from coaching the Socceroos stealthkiwi2010-06-23 15:59:08

I think his family will have a big say in where he goes but then again, money talks and I'm sure Ricki is ambitious and would love the opportunity to test himself at a higher level.

I thought I read in his book that the money has never driven him. Always the love of the game.

Yep nothing in his  book suggest that he is in it for  the money ,loved the bit when he goes on a camping holiday with his missus after the World Cup in Spain, talk about keeping it real!

Well, I am sure that he would love to challenge himself at the highest level possible. He has achieved a lot in NZ, and there are potentially bigger and better challenges in the club game overseas.

Or he could just disappear into that mire of the invisible known as the English lower divisions !
(or worse the Scottish premier league)

If he changed his name to Riki Van De Heerbert, Australia would deffo have a crack at him.

Yeah right, I could Ricki trying to stir the Socceroos up to perform on the park with "you remember how we played in 82' or 10'" . The national fever is not the same when the coach across the ditch, just look at Robbie Deans (rugby union). Quality maybe high but the passion is is lacking to push things to the limits.

Anyway hopefully Ricki has enough Maori blood to keep him NZ. In certain ways, he reminds me of the long commitment that that former USA football coach Bruce Arena has to their national team and that Bob Bradley who has succeed him after being an assistant coach.

don't know if this has been posted elsewhere already (sorry if it has). Just saw this on fb, someone created a petition that they want to present to NZ Football to keep Ricki in NZ. Link here

From the stuff article on YF's front page:

"Fortunately, for the people who thought it couldn't be done, doing two (coaching) jobs, I think we put that one to bed. Both parties are extremely happy for it to continue, I guess it's just a time period now we're working through"

I thought it was reported last season that Terry S told Richie that he would have to choose either the Nix or the AWs from this season on?

Richie Herbert - manages the Phoenix. Not to be confused with Ricki Herbert, manager of the All Whites.

Ask your Dadi.

I'm sure it was, but it was probably just another case of a New Zealand 'journalist' interviewing there own typewriter and promulgating their own biases and opinions .

Can't see him going to socceroooos. He did amazingly well but they'll be up for a Sven-type manager who is known on the world stage, has bad hair and is either French or Italian. Houllier would be a good fit. Personally i'd try and sign Mark Hughes and give him a go.

I reckon if he goes it will be a combative league somewhere in Europe that he can get his teeth into.

He won't be as successful as he is here as I'm pretty sure he follows the YF and takes on board our advice on team selection which has been a large part of his success obviously.

Obviously.
Chicken and egg, Ricki doing it or us offering advice, which came first?

Just read in the Sun that he's on the same salary as Maradona, a mere 762k so why would he need to leave the Nix/AWs.

From Stuff:

"Yesterday's planned announcement was postponed, largely because of a clash with media activity ahead of Saturday's Tri-Nations rugby test between the All Blacks and South Africa."
