Mixed feelings really.

The black kit does look sharp.  Brendan Telfer likes it.

But what about history and the 'All Whites' brand?

Wasn't this poll on the front of the fever site a couple weeks back?

Saying that. After seeing them play in black, i have been converted. Really like the black strip. (Not wanting to open up old wounds cut keep the name all whites)

All Aboard the Phoenix/ All Whites Bandwagon!!

Nah, it's football not motorsport. . . .

We can always call them "Football Blacks" for the Men and "Football Ferns" still for the Women as they wear Black.

When the guys are playing in White we can call them "All Whites." When the guys are playing in Black, we can call them "Football Blacks." Can't ready see why we have to stick to one brand when we can have two.

Actually there is no reason why we can't call the Women National team playing in Black as "Football Blacks" as well.

Heck both the national men and women Hockey teams are called the "Blacks Sticks (Women/men) team"

I think we need to move on. The non-football public likes Black and we bring national pride rather than fan pride in the picture.

Fans . . . get over it.

Nah the ball is usually white.

"Blackfoot" has been taken by an Northern America Tribe.

"Black boots" has been taken but that describes any teams with boots on.AllWhitebelievr2009-06-12 19:15:51

So you want it but you also sentimental. It sucks where you stand now eh?

However in cricket, before the "Black Caps" brand, they were wearing beige as a uniform in the one-day internationals. It never upset them and the fans still wear beige uniforms with sentimental value and in fact showing that they are firm and long standing fans.

Fans . . . get over it.

You guys sound like All Blacks fans. I really don't think the colour of the uniform makes one iota of difference.

Black. It looks great on a football pitch. Keep the All Whites name though, it kinda works on some level...

I feel the same. Looks good and makes us somewhat unique on the footballing world stage but I don't think we should throw away the history of the White kit so easily.

The black strip looks mint!
I reckon we should keep it as the home strip and have the white or blue as an alternate - keep the name all whites its kinda funny when we where an all black kit!

Well, thats what makes us unique and good looking on the footballing world stage. It's the mentality it brings for players and fans alike. People are so PC about Black is not a factor when we are playing in it and talking about it often, even among the players themselves. Heck, how many times does this come up over the years? There are obvious reasons that it won't go away.

I am still for keeping the All Whites brand and the use of it as an alternative strip rather than being just an away strip or just an home strip. We should switch between the two whenever we feel like it and who we are playing against.AllWhitebelievr2009-06-13 14:50:05

Either more or less blue and you've got a winner there wyners.

Leave it until the qualifiers are finished. If we make it to the World Cup, bring on a new era, if not, respect our greatest footballing achievment to date and keep the All Whites.

Assuming we qualify in black of course

I don't believe qualifying for 2010 would be enough to match 1982, I'd say that campaign more of an achievement (no disrespect to our current bunch of course!) However I do kinda agree with you that qualifying for 2010 in black would be a more acceptable reason (IMO, the only acceptable reason...and even that's a stretch) to make the switch.

A friend of mine who use to be in the advertising industry told me of a study done on team colours.  The study showed that a black uniform has a greater presence & is intimidating to the opposition.  However, not to France apparently

I think they look good in black.  Lets keep it.

I'm hoping we use both as evenly as possible. I see how 81/82 was more of an achievment, but qualifying for 2010 would be (as you said) the only decent excuse I can think of for changing wo what is an undeniably classier strip.

From a branding stand the 'All Whites' idea/name is/was a horrible decision it made football look like the Anti-rugby. With a country with Rugby so ingrained into it's sense of National pride it was the wrong decision, I doubt that NZ Football would change the branding now though.

In terms of what jersey colour all white or all black are both good options. The Anti-racism (half black/white) one is ok, but it's a nike 'stand up speak up' top so I don't think we could get it.

I think El Grapadura's is the sharper looking option...
but for me personally it brings back unhealthy memories of angry euro chefs wielding big knives and cleavers!!

Ha, I've always thought we play better in black and our best results from SA came in black.  Maybe we should finally make the, as I see it INEVITABLE change to black.

Black. It just looks good.

As for the name -
New Zealand Football Team.

Why do we have to name all our teams, black, white, silver, ferns, caps etc?
