Now the drasw has been made, has it increased the chances of some team wanting to play

the all whites in a friendly? Or is this just wishful thinking/

While we have no manager maybe one of the following might be keen given that they are up against Aussie: Spain, the Netherlands, Chile

Chile is near NZ so maybe that could be the one that happens, obviously in Chile though.

Supporter world's best and worst football teams: Waikato/WaiBop, Kingz, Knights, Phoenix, The Argyle, The Whites & the All Whites

It's surprising, but World Cup finalists will often play smaller countries on the eve of the Finals.

After all, we played Brazil in their last warm-up before the 2006 World Cup in Geneva, 6 June 2006.

They were preparing for their group game against Australia. And the score against Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Kaka etc. wasn't too embarrassing -  4-0, considering our team wasn't as good then as a few years later in 2009-10. We could field a stronger XI next year.

NZ line-up:

Glenn MossDavid MulliganKris BouckenoogheSteven OldDanny HayIvan VicelichNoah HickeyJeremy ChristieLeo Bertos, Vaughan  CovenyChris Killen

(Subs used: Che BunceJarrod SmithTim BrownJeremy BrockieRaffaele De GregorioChris James)

Brazil line-up: started their strongest line-up. Subs, apart from Robinho for Ronaldo at half-time, only on from 65 mins , 75 mins:

Nelson DidaMarcus CafuJuanLucioRoberto CarlosKakaEmersonRonaldinhoZe RobertoLuiz RonaldoAdriano

(subs used: Robinho, Gilberto, Gilberto Silva, Juninho, Luis Ricardinho,  Cicinho)

Brazil hammered a Lucerne XI 8-0 in their previous game.

So actually the Netherlands, Spain or Chile are possibilities...

I knew Clem Khaiseb from Namibia who was one of the leading strikers in our national league in the mid-1990's for Christchurch (his 100 m. sprint time was a world-class 10 seconds - a World Student Games athlete for Namibia). He was studying at Lincoln.

His form here earned him a call-up to the Namibian national team where he played in games for a couple of years.

He was part of the Namibian team which Saudi Arabia contracted to act as their warm-up opponents in camp in France on the eve of the 1998 Finals. They played the Saudis in about three games behind closed doors. A weaker African football country.

Sometimes you just have to be available and strike it lucky....

Many countries (including England) are basing themselves in North America on the eve of the Finals - so it might be possible to get games there.

I recall watching the All Whites take on Oz at Fulham before the 2006 WC. Was a v good game, no hoof-ball, played on the ground. Even Steven Old looked like a footballer. Shame Oz won't want to play us again before taking on Spain,Holland, Chile. Wonder why? We could always 'pretend' to be -

a) Spain (with Ramon Trib/Declan as acting temp. manager) with the All Whites instructed to play tika taka only with no shooting.

b) Holland (with Ricki/P Marshall ditto) with the All Whites instructed to park bus, bite ankles, elbow chins, dive, squeal, swear, feign injury, etc.

c) Chile (with Ernie/N Emblen ditto) with the All Whites instructed to mix a & b plus be as unpredictable as poss i.e. run around like headless chickens, i.e play their normal game.

Some international team wants us anyway - pretty intrigued - will it be a World Cup Finalist or a fellow team that failed to qualify and is lacking games? I'm picking Chile wanting to prepare for playing Australia since we have had a relationship with their FA for twenty years, last playing them in a friendly in June 2010 in South Africa, with their Olympic side playing here 2008, both their senior and Olympic sides visiting Auckland for games c. 2000 and us playing in their FA's Centennial Tournament in Chile 1995 etc.

I remember the Football Kingz playing Chile's Olympic side in Auckland in a televised game on the eve of the 2000 Sydney Olympics with over-age player the legendary Ivan Zamorano scoring in a 1-0 win. Very tight game & one of the Kingz' finest moments.
