would have thought Palmer would be getting game time. Also why hasn't Hannah Carlson been in the mix?

Believe they are the first NZ team of any age or gender to make the 1/4 finals of a World Cup. Outstanding.
Fuck this stupid game
Mexico England Nigeria or Korea.. any of them can get through
"Who ate all the pies"
Who are they likely to play in the next round?
Straight to quarters.
This is awesome.
End of an era. Vinnie - It's over.

What a strong result. Not to take anything whatsoever from previous teams who have achieved certain milestones at world cups, but great to see a team go through on the back of a couple of commanding wins rather than shaky 1-0, a draw, or a 'lucky loser' type route. Great achievement for the team.
Nigeria next
Can only hope they do not field Obafemi Martins sister.

Brilliant
"Bowen – making herself heard above an excited team in the background – says focus is already shifting focus to the next challenge ahead; Group C winners Nigeria.
“The semi-finals has always been our goal because we believe we have the drive and the talent to get there. We’ve still got that game in our minds.
“But knowing we’ve created history is something you can’t describe in words.
“Tomorrow we leave for Moncton and we’ll have recovery and then it’s back to business really.
“Yeah we made history and cool we won but now we’ve got to move onto the next game because we’ve got to win that one to achieve our goal.”
Junior Football Ferns v Nigeria - 8 am Monday Sky Sport 1 (ch. 51)
Sky have been dragging their feet over confirming a broadcast of this - I've contacted them a few times and they couldn't confirm a broadcast at all even yesterday (Saturday).
Finally I received confirmation from them today - it's live on Sky Sport 1 at 7.50 am
Yay !!!
Big Pete 65, Christchurch
Poor start, Nigeria's first attack and we concede after 31 seconds. Cross was put over and everyone stood and watched it. Haven't seen the replay yet but feel Alfeld may have been able to take the cross reasonably comfortably.
Feels like this could be a long game. Nigeria 2-0 up after their striker outpaced our defenders and slotted nicely at near post
Rolston scores a glancing header in the 89th to pull one back. 3-1 Nigeria with only a few to go
Pretty much straight away we concede again. Alfeld beaten on near post for the second time today. 4-1 Nigeria
Their pace absolutely killed us. 1/4 is a create effort regardless.
NZF seeking applications for U20 AND U17 coach (one role). This is a change of thinking as the U17 role was advertised a month or two back. TWO teams, ONE coach
Kotahitanga. We are one.
Guess they are trying to make it one full-time role rather than two part time ones?
I like that thinking providing the right man gets the job
Yes he lives in Chch

Nightmare. I'm sure the fact that OFC President David Chung comes from PNG has nothing to do with it.
Kotahitanga. We are one.
And they only have a year to organise it all.
Also is it really okay to have a major women's sporting event in a country that still burns women for witchcraft? I really don't think so.

It looks like PNG have recently built two new stadiums, 25000 and 15000 capacity, so they might get by regarding stadia...the other infrastructure, well it will be a struggle I would think. South Africa pulled out so PNG won it over that football backwater Sweden :P
In some respects, this could be either a very good thing or a very bad thing.
1: good in the way that FIFA can see where all their funding money goes (politicians pockets) and realise what a state it is with an eye to try harder
or
2: bad in that they may strike a line through OFC and the ramifications that may have for the future across all events and I guess direct entry to WC.
Either way, its a bold move but I suspect this will end in tears.
Grumpy old bastard alert
I forgot that Port Moresby is hosting the Pacific Games this year so there may be some new facilities there to cope with an event of this magnitude.
