Sadly, too few are prepared to do that these days, preferring instead the platitudes of political correctness, aka applauding mediocrity, to the harsh reality of being honest with people.

Ridiculous comment.

I see NZ kept some of the girls who have been with the Football Ferns on the bench. That score line could have been worse.

Well that is true of most NZF releases. Or in fact any comms from a national or club side. Good to get an independent review sometimes

i'm not a massive JR fan - probably because we have been on the end of some honest statements in the past - but if he isn't the best placed person to make this type of comment given his unquestionable dedication to women's football then i'll be damned.

great to get absolutely zero from NZF (apart from 1-3 score) regarding their friendly v Brazil

That's due to having been unable to contact the squad via the usual means.

Apparently there have been internet connection issues, phone problems ...

I ended up finding out the result and Brazilian goalscorers via the CBF's website, and found out that Steph Skilton was our scorer when I was able to get in touch with one of the girls via Facebook. Apparently we led, but Brazil hit back virtually straight away.

Hopefully both the result and team communications will be more favourable tomorrow!

The Premier Club for New Zealand Women's Football should always be well represented.

The girls are looking in good form. A well taken goal from Emma Rolston curling it in with her left at 40 minutes. Only to be followed by a great piece of chasing to cross it in from on the byline for Steph Skilton to tap it home in an open goal. Gone into the break 2-0 up over Paraguay.

Ended 2-0. A few helter skelter moments in defence but Paraguay only troubles the girls a handful of times. Got quite physical towards the end with some agricultural tackles but a well deserved victory

Good result especially with Costa Rica getting humped by France. Decent chance of going through second.

Permalink Permalink

Definitely a good chance now. I'm quite excited to be going to the Costa Rica game next week. Should be a good show if today's games were anything to go by.

great result. Be disappointing to not qualify from here.

Yes it was, approx 90 seconds, showed the 2 goals and the foul which resulted in our defender being issued a yellow.

That foul....I imagine that's what Rory Fallon would do if he couldn't jump.

As a question, is this the team that Temple had a couple of years ago that got humped in the U17s? Played in... Azbaijan? Amazing the difference a proper new coach can make if its the same team.

Mainly. Same backline and goalie apart from Ward who came on (a year older). Bowen and Millyn were year older. Skilton must have been older. Hard to make a direct comparison.

Was a bit pissed at Sky, it gave an error code as to why it didn't record yesterday, the error code on their website is "SSomething went wrong" oh awesome. Recording the replay.

We're having some moments of good one touch football and times of very dubious football to cancel it out. Not a bad effort so far though considering how much higher up the rankings France are. Get the feeling the second half could bring a trouncing though

Paraguay ahead of us on the table now after winning 2-1 and a slightly better goal difference.  We need to beat Costa Rica and hope France can continue thier winning ways.  Still with a chance.

Leading 1-0. Draw will get us through.

Was a good glancing header from Steph Skilton from a free kick. Costa Rican keeper looks shaky under the high ball.

Megan Lee with a one on one, ran herself into trouble but curled it between 2 defenders. 2 nil up

Ends 3 nil after a Tayla O'Brien header from a corner in the last few seconds of added time
