Is of course, Murray Deaker's sports talk.

Well, going by ratings and "awards" it arguably is.

But Murray you disappoint me (I know many here have no respect for him but I wasn't as scathing). Taking the Andy Haden debacle personally has clouded editorial judgement.

I just tuned in (slightly late) and heard him leading today's 12pm show with RUGBY? Did he even mention the football at the start of this show?

It seems today is going to be an ego-fest with all sorts of rugby guests stroking the ego and defending Andy Haden's allegations.

WTF?? Really, no respect.

If the All Blacks had lost this morning to Serbia.........

I'm sure I'm not the only one who is suffering serious rugby fatigue. Yet most media will lead with rugby in their sports even if it is the most minor story of the day. Anyday when rugby is not the lead, is a good day. The only rugby story I'm looking forward to is New Zealand winning the world cup, and who knows when that will be!
Those sports pundits who don't understand football, ignore football. I think they forget a "friendly" is the same as a "test". The All Blacks have probably never had a result that compares to the All White's one this morning. Sometimes it is hard to avoid the rugby versus football debate!

Friendly is misunderstood as you say. No games are played "just for kicks" and as you say, if the All Blacks played Serbia it would be regarded as an "international"/test.

I can't believe Murray Deaker has let selfish interests take the limelight off the most significant national sporting issue today.

Unfortunately, I can.

Surely there will be football at some point. Needs to spend the whole next hour on it or something. Though it will most likely be building up to All Blacks selection and then NRL commentary.

Someone needs to phone him up and give him a piece of our mind. I am not confident enough to take him on.

He just told a caller before that he will let anyone onto the show to express their opinion so if he isn't being a hypocrite you should be allowed on (just lie and say you want to talk Rugby).

Sure, John Adsett is due at 2pm but that's just as shocking as the result.

So if November 15 had coincided with Andy Haden, Deaker would have led with Haden. Class.

Pretty much digusted with Deaker, that he didnt lead his show, with one of the biggest sporting acheivements ever by a New Zealand team.

Perhaps we can all ring up radio sport and talk about the football.

Perspective smerspective. I want more football coverage!

Remember Murray Deaker is the Journo  who said in 1998 "Johan Lomu is more popular in Manchester, than David Beckeham"

So why waste your time with Deaker then? Do you honestly expect him to change?

People complain when he doesn't cover football, then they complain when he does that he doesn't have the knowledge that most of us fans do and cocks things up.

We can't have it both ways.

If you don't like him don't listen. If you want more footy coverage then contact the station and give them some constructive feedback. Whinging on a forum isn't going to achieve anything for anybody.

judging by that statement the so called journo in question must live by himself on planet Deaker

...and ringing to whine on air just underlines a whole heap of stereotypes.

I've said it before, if you want to gain airtime, have lucid and well thought out points.  Don't just ring and go 'how 'bout them All Whites' or 'why do you ignore football, it's like, so much better than Rugby''.

Neither will win a Rugby focussed supporter over.

How's my driving? - Whine here

agree that contacting the station is worth a go, but i don't get the "constructive feedback" bit

surely it is their responsibility to 'construct' a programme that takes account of NZ sporting achievements and keeps up with what is going on in the sporting world and possibly in NZ - as more kiwis 'discover' football

I mean give them sound reasoning to support your point, as HN was saying. Don't just say that "I want more football coverage cos I'm a fan, or Deaker's a muppet, or there's too much egg-ball", or whatever.... Be specific and point out where and why they've "failed" and how they might improve. As per your point

Football was all over the Australian media last weekend.

It even bumped AFL off the back page of the Melbourne Age.

With absolute undying respect....

ARE YOU KIDDING ME??

I am in the midst of listen to Murray and John and losing almost all my respect for Murray.

"But John, this was just a FRIENDLY!"

Honestly people in NZ have no idea what a "friendly" is - poor terminology.

And he admitted 100% that it was suggested to him that he should lead the show with this result but vetoed that relegated it to the THIRD section of the program (the 2nd would have been taken up by the All Blacks team announcement, no doubt, but I didn't listen to confirm).

LOL John Adshead to Deaker re: AWs Defence:

"Ryan Nelsen is beginning to design a chastity belt that is virtually unopenable"

Yes most of the programme devoted to the announcement of the All Black team for the FRIENDLIES against Wales and Ireland.

Really irks me as well, but honestly, not worth getting steamed up about really. It's just the way it is in these parts.

I know, I know, its serious!

Don't worry, if the All Blacks lose to Serbia in the future it won't matter because it will only be a "friendly".

But to be impartial on this, don't the two networks take turns at ignoring football in this country?

Good story by TV3.

You would think TVNZ with coverage of the games would be trying to build it up as much as they could.

TVNZ are the CH7 of NZ.  Buy the WC rights, then convince the masses that's its all a bit of a laugh and that we should concentrate on what's really important (CH7: AFL, TVNZ: yachting).

Yeah, TV1 kept the football till sports news (did have one segway to WC being soon and the upset "in sports news later" with pie man), TV3 had in general news.

As far as the sports news sections went, TVNZ led with All whites, and closed with the footage of celebration in changing rooms after.

TV3 put the All Whites after the AB's and Super 14 final in their sports news section.

Thought it was worth more on both channels actually.

Meh, glad we won!

Granted I didn't see the start of 3 News but TV1 did a much better job in the sports section, a - it lead the bulletin. b- they have a guy with the team and c- had the behind the scenes stuff from the website aswell.
