Im going to give some props to the TV media this week, all of them have come up with new stories around the AWs every night this week. Can't be that easy finding a new angle when all they are doing is training but have seen stories on the sports scientist and the ball. So ill give them some kudos.

Also both carried stories on the launch of Wynrs Wellington last night.

All Whites were BURIED in 3 News as well. I switched networks after Gourdie mentioned a Timmy Brown update and TV One didn't preview any such update.

Normally a One watcher but tonight 3 didn't bring football to the fore either. Good info on Timmy though. He's now officially 62% to get to SA.

Do you think a network should step up and promote themselves as the superior football news provider? I understand rugby is still probably the most popular with the general public but the All Whites is BIG news a week out from Africa. As one of the broadcasters of the world cup I would have thought TVNZ would have pumped more resources in to bringing us football news. Yes you were right ahmad no update on our lad Tim on One. Less sailing and mystics more football.

I too am surprised at the lack of pimping from TVNZ.

I mean can you imagine how much they must have paid for this???

I know that Indonesia is a footballing nation but when I was there in JANUARY this was all over the host broadcasters.

Annoying bugs (those TV channel watermarks) that kept animating the official logo, "Official World Cup concerts" (just sad, in studio excuses for a Cup tie-in), onscreen count of "Days to the World Cup" - you just couldn't help but commit to memory the two channels that were going to be bringing coverage SIX MONTHS later.

As I said, sure we aren't a football nation (yet) but perhaps the whole (stupid) 50 years of TVNZ thing has taken the limelight - I mean even PRIME had the Olympic rings watermark for a ridiculous amount of time leading up to the Winter Olympics.

LOL I just had a thought that it would be terribly embarrassing don't you think if footballing fans watch their games on TV One and TVNZ7, then switch over to 3 or 3plus1 for the football news of the day.

i reckon you are right Manbeast and ahmad

TV 1 really seems to be missing a trick here

at least wellington 'gets' football - and (in related news) well done all those who voted either via the net or on any voting panels for the Welly sports awards .. football was the winner on the night

I'm not angsty at the moment.

I think there are truck loads of articles in the papers and of course the interweb.  The TV stations are giving REASONABLE amount of coverage during the warm-up/lead in phase.

I hope that soon  changes to insanely unreasonable and extended coverage when the event kicks off so that we know how many times Smeltz gels his hair and what advice Eileen Drewery has passed on to Rory via Wynton.

I'm very happy wtih all the info streaming in at the moment.

I'm in Beirut. Lebanon doesn't even have a team in the World Cup, yet the whole place has gone beserk. Flags of all the "big" footballing nations are everywhere. On cars, buildings, the street. One street nearby has  brazilian and german flags stretched accross the entire road, between the buildings. . .  NZ really is out-of-the-loop if the tournament is getting limited coverage...

Apparently there is some egg ball competion between NZ and two other countries starting up soon, so it's quite importnat we know who is injured and who is too darky.

Ok just a working week to go...

What will TV One serve up tonight?

I won't know until I read about it here because I want to see what Gourdie has to say about the team sheet problems from this morning.

But for the love of God someone from TV One please read this and hype up the event more than you have been doing

TV3 is the front runner by quite some miles. Props to them following up on Brownies progress.

TV1 does have European correspondant Paul Hobbs "following" the team so that's pretty good. Though was dumb when watching the 10:20 bulletin last night that they covered the cycling debacle and Japan and was it North Harbour game. No mention of the All Whites at all. Shame on them.

Prime News is pretty good, considering they have half the time the other networks have.

Lets see what happens tonight. Watch the space.

Wow I always luck out. Just make sure you tune into YF and find out which channel I'm watching - then watch the other network!

TV3 had a highlights package.

TV One had interviews! Dammit. Switched back after disappointing TV3 which didn't even mention the substitutions but already missed half of the TV One coverage which actually had interviews with Ryan and Ricky

Prime news had game highlights and mentioned Rio was out for England.

Tv3 same as above

Tv1 had game highlights, Ryan & Ricki interviews. I didn't like the spin on the story. Paul Hobbs on the sideline again. Later mentioned Rio out and Drobga doubtful. They had Ryan player profile at the end of the sports news. They are doing this daily. Maybe someone over in HQ is reading these forums and decided to lift their game.

Yeah let's hope

What didn't you like about Paul Hobbs's spin? What was the spin? I'm personally just perplexed by him recording summaries about the game before it has actually finished

Dammit, missed the Ryan profile LOL. I should give up watching the news.

from memory the 'spin' was 'reality check for AW's" but i was flicking channels (and missed the interviews )

hope TV1 does lift their game and that TV3 then stakes its claim as the superior football broadcaster!!

Stop buying the Herald, and don't look on their website.

Buy the Dom Post (they do airmail it to Auckland don't they?) LOL

ODT doing a lift-out on Monday. I'm expecting it to be sh*te but watch this space.

TV 1 had enough coverage but the 'spin' as it has been described was something along the lines of: [firstly by the presenter] that the forward line was struggling and the backline was in dissarray [I'm paraphrasing here] and then the reporter on the ground prattling on about how we needed to lift our performance. It immediately struck me as a piece being written by someone that knew stuff all about football and trying to find a negative angle. Everything they said was contradicted by immediately showing Fallon scoring a goal, woods thwarted effort and Ricki being interviewed and saying we were doing really well. 1-2, 1-0, 1-3 against highly ranked opposition.... oh forget it, we all know the truth don't we?

I'm stoked the Waikato Times uses so much Dom Post football material!

I don't get why the angle from most news sources on yesterday's game was "reality check for All Whites". They were hardly disgraced and were unlucky with a couple they conceded, and were unlucky not to score more. That's football. Lazy journalism in my opinion - simply looking at the score and drawing conclusions from that.

Don't think he has for a while. I don't expect great things from him. Thought he was ok when he did the scoreboard show years ago on Newstalk zb.

Ahmad there is plenty of coverage by the Herald on their website, you'd be a fool not to take a good look around all the papers.  All this angsty stuff is pretty churlish in my opinion.

It was a reality check, 3 - 1 is pretty convincing and we came back to reality in our tackling at the back, our need to be better prepared around free kicks outside the box, and our goal keeping.
Yes we looked good in aspects but were werent able to finish.

My comment was in reference to the Herald being labelled a joke for using the "s" word and saying that they don't give a sh*t and won't change it no matter what anyone says or how many say it.

Ok but so what. I was brought up with it being soccer, call it both even now, doesnt stop me from being an ardent supporter, it's not worth worrying about  ( in my opinion)

Waits for the football angst...but maybe since we have been there before, we can just get on with reading about, dreaming about and watching our team in the greatest show on earth, the Football World Cup

I didn't say you weren't an ardent supporter... I was simply responding to the arrogance of the Herald.
