Sorry Tegal at my dig above. I thought you were directing the idiot comment to the person quoting Lawls. I didn't realise Lawls had said that - thought it was the one that posted.

Anyway brb off to get an All Blacks flag.

Small point, but Toni "Tidy But Clueless" Street said on last night's news that we shouldn't forget to tune in to watch "the All Whites verse Italy".
The friggin' word is versus FFS. It's something we have a huge problem with at schools, with kids all wanting to know "who are we versing?" or "who will we verse?". When supposed journalists can't get it right, what hope is there for our language?
Nix, Leyton Orient and Alloa Athletic supporting schmuck.

Guarantee someone will run the headline in a loss to Paraguay

"One step too far"

I can see it now, predictable trollop.

Let's hope the boys don't give them a chance!

Irrespectively, they better celebrate their achievement when the team gets back!

I was visiting the olds over the weekend and sadly my mother (rugby nut) had a good chuckle at Michael Lawls article and then passed it to me to read.  I was somewhat less impressed.  I know its a good quality of kiwis that we can take the piss out of ourselves but it just highlighted how defensive rugby fans are getting about the All Whites performance.

At least now Lawls own measure of Solomon Islands beating Hong Kong backfired somewhat since 'Solomon Islands' have now beat whoever won the last Rugger World Cup... Aussie?

I did LOL at Sky telling us to buy All Blacks flags though, nice one Elrick.

I'm just loving the coverage from our television media! Even talking to Terry, getting reaction from our troops overseas.

Any word on how many people tuned in to watch the game?

Mossy getting stuck in. Love it!

"Heading into the tournament, football fans in New Zealand had to choke on their breakfasts while reading the negative rubbish written in certain media. "Be careful what you wish for" was one headline I was reminded of by a friend in Wellington today. Not surprisingly, the media are singing a different tune now. If anyone doubted the result against Slovakia was the country's greatest sporting moment, then the Italian result has certainly shut them up."

I find this quite a good video, to be honest.  On the one hand I saw they were talking to people in Napier and thought it would be pretty average, but on the other hand it seems that it was a good move, shows that even outside the main centres people are buzzing and watching the game.

Yes that was weird them covering that other sport first. Probably Savilles decision.    But they did have 15 minutes yesterday in their main story.

there was a fantastic double-page spread on the AWs in the Melbourne Age's World Cup supplement today, teriffic reading and a sample of the headlines here:

FRESH HERB COULD SPICE UP SOCCEROOS
(translation: We should nick Ricki for the Australia job after we get rid of Pim)

FALLON WANTS UK REFEREE FOR DECIDER

SMELTZ: WE CAN RIDE THE WAVE ALL THE WAY TO LAST 16

WHO ARE THESE GUYS? SHOCK DRAW LEAVES ITALIAN PRESS PACK STUMPED

KIWIS WALK ON AIR AS ITALIANS DIVE
(arf!)

and to add to that, Eurosport TV channel has named Paston and Nelsen in its ''Best X1 of the WC so far'' line-up.

ESPN's Soccernet Press Pass gave us a lot of respect last night. We were rated the surprise of the tournament by Shaka Hislop and they had an interview with Tommy Smith with an I, who asked Tommy Smyth with a Y what he thought of the penalty (he thought it was harsh). It was great to see them talking us up and giving us the respect the boys are due!

The report from McConie after the Italy game where he spoke with a few of the players parents in the crowd was great. None of the other channels did that. Been loving CGW's coverage.

Christie or Fallon playing jokes perhaps    I thought it was hilarious. Think Craig did too at the end.

Agree. Many people say CGW is a comedy show, which is true and thouroughly enjoyable, but they get a perspective most other stations miss out on.

Not sure, but Gourdie wasn't at the bbq's was he? The stitch up with food int he jacket was class, and obviously shows the good light hearted relationship..

I couldn't believe the poor news coverage the football world cup got yesterday.  Both TV1 and TV3 devoted 90% of the sports news slot to rugby and league news.  Brent Tate leaving the Warriors got more coverage than the entire World Cup. Seems to be a serious bias in these organisations for the oval ball games.

When NZ isn't involved they don't seem to care.

Have you not watched every other day for the last 2-3 weeks? Do we really have to pick out one day (in which nothing overly exciting happened in the world cup) and whinge n moan about it

You might be right.  Missed the games in the morning and was relying on the news, so probably not a balanced perspective.

Major media angst here. Was in the car today going to a job and the news was on. Leading the news was Dan Carter being injured or something. There was nothing about Ryan Nelsen's tummy. What's the deal? Is he going to be alright? I've heard nothing and I can't find anything! Come on media!
