i can see ricki going back on is word beacuse there are players who are better than some who were in the squad to play bahrain. he has also said if there are better players than those in the original 18 he would pick them as it is his responsibility to pick the best possible squad..

1pm Monday. Is it live on TV (not serious) or Radio anywhere? Or is it a case of "here's the squad" press release type thing?Toffeeman2010-05-06 22:14:43

Yep.

I don't see Ricki going back on his word.

I think he's got no chance now that better players have become available.  Hes given himself an out, Ricky is still pragmatic

In a comprehensive interview with Andrew Dewhurst on "the Total Football Show" on Radio Sport on Sunday between 9pm- 10pm about the squad, Ricki as good as said not all 18 players from the Bahrain games are guaranteed a place any more- due to Tommy Smith and Winston Reid becoming available etc.
Check www.totalfootballshow.co.nz to see if there's a podcast there or the Radio Sport website. If not, e-mail Andrew to have him put the interview up!

yeah, he's been quoted as saying so recently and I'm sure that will have been communicated to the squad

i totally agree with  him

if everyone is injury  free the  team should be PICKED

moss/paston/banna

nelsen/vicellich/reid/smith/sigmund / boyens (OLD) /lochead

barron/elliot/brown/bertos/ mc g/clapham/brokie (HAYNE) /mulligan

costa B/ smeltz/fallon/killen/wood

STAND- BY  PANEL

24-SPOONLEY
25-OLD
26-SCOTT
27-COOMBES
28-HAYNE
29-BRIGHT
30-JAMES

I AGREE THAT BOYENS IS NOT PLAYING AND ALSO  HE HAD A VERY POOR CONF CUP LAST YEAR....I DO NOT  KNOW S. OLD  VERY MUCH ...BUT I THINK  S.OLD  MAY BE BETTER BUT HE IS NOT GETTING  FOOTBALL TIME  ...

WHO IS BETTER   OLD  OR  BOYENS?

NZ  NEEDS    a forward  differente at what they have...an impact  player  quick and  fast

brockie is a good  player  in an attacking position   he can track back  and  has scored before ,  it is him and  hayne  the one for that  spot

Don't think Costa will make it. We have 4 reliable strikers, and Brockie can fill in up top if any injuries.

Unless we take Peverly I can't see who would make the squad over Costa (but agree we have enough strikers)

Serious question.  What about Steven Old?  I know he was a bit average for the 'Nix, but wasn't he playing regularly at RB for a scottish premier league team?
To me that would say he's the best option for RB. So goes instead of Boyens and Scott.

And Christie any chance for a midfield spot? Maybe ahead of Mulligan or Barbarouses?

Does this perhaps indicate Nelsen's lack of optimism in New Zealand qualifying eight months ago? Seriously, what kind of footballer has sex nine months out from the World Cup, surely this is a fundamental!

After today's trial, i'd argue for Tim Myers in defence.
Draper and Hogg too, attacking mid as they carved up NZ A nicely and created enough chances.

Hogg is a future All White as a lb.

Draper has potential, but is a little hot an cold. Once he gets a little more consistant he will be a good option... assuming he also can get himself back into a professional environment.

Agreed. Hogg has the potential to easily eclipse Lochhead in terms of ability in the future.

Three for me, and two for them.

I'll have 3 pints of whatever you've been drinking. Obviously we didn't watch the same game. As ML as previously posted, the squad should be the Bahrain 18 minus Scott, plus Moss, Reid,  Smith, Costa B, Brockie and Clapham. Clapham was the best player on the park today, by a country mile.
