As seen on Stuff:

Probably in Auckland but sense may prevail and it will be the home of football in NZ, WELLINGTON.

Love the typical NZ jouro error in the last paragraph saying the World Cup is in 2011. Muppets.

Very keen to see this. Hope it's true.

Probably be either Auckland or Christchurch. Because you'd think with it being one day then a place with a big international airport. So prob won't be Welly.

Agreed that it should come to the home of football in NZ, Welli.Arsenal2010-03-17 16:17:31

True, but if we're a bounce from Sydney it could be Welly.

Its no longer a problem.

I'd be tempted to fly to it if it doesn't come to Welly, if I can find cheap flights.
You know we belong together...

It was here in 2006, so if it's confirmed that it's in NZ for 2010, then put your house on it being in Aus for a day or so as well.

It stayed at Sydney Airport for 3 hours in 2006 from memory. They did the media photos and press conference a the Airport then it left.

Doesn't look like it, Arsenal. Last stop is New Caledonia. NZ hasn't been added to the official trophy schedule yet (just the press release by Coca Cola) but it's nice to be squeezed in since they are passing by.

It was going to be Porirua but apparently  they couldn't get enough security!

Sorry but this is really truly farcical.

Having said that, I'm not really surprised by anything NZ football does any more. And I've only followed football in New Zealand for less than one year. How cynical is that?

This was the perfect opportunity for kids to skip school and hype up New Zealand's participation at the World Cup.

Did they REALLY just bring the World Cup Trophy to New Zealand to let some corporate sponsors run a promotion to win tickets to see the damned thing?

Sell out much?

I'll probably enter in one of the ways and yeah I'll be f'king over the moon if I get to go (probably won't be able to get off work to be honest) but still this is pretty damned sh*t.

Awesome!

I thought it would be too generous of Coca-Cola to be otherwise:

All Winners and Guests are responsible for all travel & accommodation costs associated with the redemption of their Prize.

Winners will be notified by phone and email and tickets to the Prize experience (Winning Tickets) will be sent by email to all Winners on or before Monday 26 April 2010.

Sweet, well I'm definitely winning a ticket so I'm going to book my flights now. Oh wait, what if I don't win? I better wait first and then book them THE DAY BEFORE when I find out I've actually won.

Someone said on my Twitter that "hey at least it's coming to the country - better than not coming".

I disagree.

Those little f**king pricks. GRRRR.

I had my whole day planned to skip school and everything... haven't we learnt with about Auckland yet? What a joke.

Bet you 90% of the winners will be randoms who "don't understand the away goals rule"Michael2010-04-16 00:47:34

Its going to be a whole bunch of corporate w**kers who see the cup + those bandwagon chavs who don't really love the game. Annoys me. rant over.

Why the f**k does NZF insist on keeping sh*t in Auckland??? Nobody will care to see it up there. This really f**king pisses me off in a big way.

As a Coromandelian, may I join the chorus and say this sucks. Stupid Auckland, of course it should go to Wellington. Or Thames. Oh well, when we win it surely they'll take it around the country.

Couple of points:

1)  It's coming from Japan.  I'm no expert, but I doubt there is any direct flights from Japan to Wgtn.  It was always going to be a splash and dash appearence, so there would be time to put it on another flight to wgtn, and back again.

2) I assume the coca-cola arragements have been the normal for all of the other visits.  They are playing big money to be the sponser, so I don't think it is fair to blame NZF.

I'm no expert on the matter either, but all I know is that in Indonesia there was TV advertisments plastered for weeks leading up to this event. It was not a homegrown commercial - it looks like it was produced outside of Indonesia but ended with some Indonesian overdubbing announcing the dates.

They also only had the trophy for a day, but in fairness I don't think it flew in and out the same day.

Is this really the best way to promote the Coca-Cola and FIFA brands?

Seems bloody terrible to be honest. NZ Herald? Are they the highest bidder or simply New Zealand's biggest football fans?

Who knows what will happen with the cup now as with all the air traffic disruption its going to be running behind flying in and out of its original destinations and they will get priority. It's prob stuck in either Turkey or Serbia at the moment and unless they are taking it over road its not going to be a huge priority compared the the hundreds of thousands of people who are stuck. I highly doubt it will get everywhere now stealthkiwi2010-04-16 14:07:30
