Shame it doesn't appear you can get them on demand though, or at least I couldn't find any when logged onto Sky Go
ISPS Handa Premiership
Completely left-field idea...
...but what would be the obstacles in the way of NZF if they were to partner with the likes of mycujoo.tv or similar to allow free streams of Handy games?
I don't have Skype (like many others) and can only go to about 60% of TW games. I'm sure there are many others like me and the ability to stream online would enable us (and potentially others around the world) to watch more Handy games.
Genuinely curious, especially since clubs have to pay for Sky to show their games. This could be free/cheaper and increase the number of viewers many-fold.

Highlights Show listed in Video > On demand
in the Bein app
Not sure if this helps but individual club sites often have highlights ; ie Tee Dubs v Hamilton highlights can be accessed via TW facebook page. Haven't looked but other franchises probably the same

Main hurdle is getting film crews at each ground and paying them somehow (exposure dollars or real dollars). Quality of stream can be an issue but if you've got competent people doing it they should be able to sort it. Definitely a case of you get what you pay for.
From what I know NZF has largely left streaming up to each individual club which is why some do and some don't. Some people I've chatted with on twitter previously were concerned about betting on games and how streaming might worsen that (but I don't think it's a reason not too) which is why some clubs don't want to go near it.
I think MyCujoo would be a great platform to get games on - you wouldn't have to keep track of each teams youtube channel (or facebook, but why would you even broadcast on there?!) and they're all in one place. Whether it will take the place of broadcast tv I'm not sure.

Didn't think about it being on the Bein app, thanks. Will also try check out other teams facebook pages too. Cheers
I watched Southern United vs Tasman on line via Southern United’s YouTube channel.
player welfare? It's not great to have players playing back to back seasons for year on year.
In Auckland players will play National League for the competition and then play NRFL (sometimes even Div 1) for the cash - removing the ability (eventually) for players to do both should see them choose National League if the product is good enough.

how many games do you think the guys in the non leagues side in the UK play a year? would be more than 24! What do those guys do during the week days? pretty sure its work fulltime job.
In terms of the player workload / overlapping seasons, you also have the guys that play Australia NPL and Handa Premiership (Hamish Watson, Mo Awad spring to mind), so it is not just the players that play Handa Premiership and (NRFL/Central/Southern). To me its advantageous that these players can go over to Australia and earn some money (well I hope they are) because the seasons are adjacent rather than overlapping.
I'd only see it being a problem if you find players are stopping at 25 and not carrying on into their 30s, and/or clubs are saying you have to play both and so they aren't playing at all.
I'll also add I made the effort to watch 3 Kings play against my local side, and I wish I'd been able to convince my kids along to see some of the long passes Cam Howieson was putting on a dime with the extra space afforded playing down a bit. Hired guns playing down can be a good watch.

Have to agree Howieson was a revelation for kings. Turned their whole season around, worth the money.

Yes he was, don't think he really got much game time though.
This pitch looks horrendous. Cow paddock.
The football is horrendous as well
The pitch can't be helping.
Does anyone know what Instat use to measure ratings that give us "team" of the week?
I saw Nick Draper playing against the Weenix and he was fine, did what he should do as a keeper (except let 3 goals in, none his fault) but it wasn't a performance that merited a team of the week selection. Similarly Keegan Smith was named team of the week keeper last week and again he didn't do anything out of the ordinary for Team Wellington against Hawkes Bay United
Would have also though that Tasman beating Southern 5-0 would have warranted one at least one of their players getting a mention - but maybe the stats are like opinions
Especially since Tasman's keeper got an assist and a clean sheet.
Not sure what was so great about the Waitak vs Nix game - think Saiko, Watson and Slotemaker all very hard done by here, as well as an argument for Stanton.
It's calculated by a player's 'InStat Index' for that GW. I found this on InStat's website...
*********************
InStat’s unique parameter, which gives the most accurate assessment of a player’s performance.
An automatic algorithm considers the player’s contribution to the team’s success, the significance of their actions, opponent’s level and the level of the championship they play in. InStat Index helps to determine the player’s class. With InStat Index, you’ll be able to understand whether a substitute player is ready to play in the main team, how hard it will be for him to transfer to a top league, how the player performs in matches against opponents of different levels.
The rating is created automatically – each parameter has a factor which changes depending on the number of actions and events in the match. There is a unique set of key parameters for each position (12 to 14 factors). The weight of the action factors differs depending on the player position – for example, grave mistakes made by central defenders and their frequency affect InStat Index more than those made by forwards. These factors are multiplied by an average InStat Index collected across matches around the globe for several years.
In order to calculate the InStat Index, the player has to spend a certain amount of time on the field and perform a minimum number of actions. The overall match result goes into a report and into the InStat Scout system.
which gives the most accurate assessment of a player’s performance.
...according to InStat
anyone know the best place to read opinions, pinings, etc. about the Handy and its players? Shout out Niche Cache, they're great
A bit late to the party on this, but just interested to see who anyone thinks will be joining the National League when it expands? Not in NZ anymore so just wondered if anyone specific had been mentioned?

Lots of rumours.
Ole, AUFC (new Onehunga/Three Kings joint venture), Manukau and North Shore being some.
Then you get club teams being rumoured to replace the franchises like ChCh United for Canterbury, Napier City Rovers for Hawkes Bay and Western Springs for Waitakere (though understand Waitak is not really a franchise??).
I'm sure there are others.
Of course whether the Handy Prem should/needs to expand when it struggles badly for cash, is another whole debate.
Now that CWC is moving to a 4 year cycle, be very interesting as to how FIFA propose to split the money from that cash cow, and what slice Oceania gets. Big ramifications for the Handy Prem.

There was nothing in the blueprint for the future of the national league released in November to suggest growth in the number of clubs is on the radar in the near future.
Existing clubs deciding they no longer want to be a part of it is another matter.
In light of the Government's level 2 announcement (resumption of professional sports) - I can't help but think that the global shortage of sports would have been a perfect opportunity to revamp the ISPS Handa Premiership and put it all on Sky Sport, for NZ and the World to enjoy!
My reasoning is based on global sports watching movements - once Europe was effectively closed down, people turned to all sorts of weird and wonderful leagues to get their sport fix. Why can't the ISPS Handa Prem get a slice of that viewing pie? People need sport to watch, NZ is in a position to resume (hopefully very soon). Do we just want rugby and netball or should we think big picture - if there are enough viewing numbers it will pay for itself.
I don't think the 'lack of quality' argument is the best one just in advance - I mean people are literally tuning into Kazhakstan, Nicaragua and Belarus...
Interested to hear other people's thoughts!
