To be fair JD, I was really impressed with the work that Ramon (assistant Coach) and Simon Eaddy did in analysing the opponents - they really did their homework and for me, got the tactics spot-on for every match - although we didn't execute that well against Atlante.

I was involved with Simon doing video analysis during the matches (which he went through with the team at half time) and I was amazed at how detailed and meticulous it was.

Before the Al Ahli game especially, Ramon drew out a plan on the whiteboard in the dressing room outlining exactly how they were going to play - shape, personnel and tactics - and it was almost 100% correct when the game actually got underway.

I don't know what other clubs do this sort of thing, but from talking to the guys City certainly didn't do anything like this before the CWC in Japan - I think a lot of the credit for the success needs to go to these guys (along with Paul Posa and Stipe Sarich) for doing their homework to give the side the best chance of success.

Sounds very much to me, Adam, like the blueprint which the cherubs have been using since John Herdman first introduced it via the Junior Ferns (U20s) in 2006, and fine-tuned it for the Football Ferns' use from 2007 onwards.

Cheers,

Also helps that City had almost every match Ahli played this season recorded on DVD - that helps pre-match analysis a bit, JR :o)

I was merely providing some background to when the video analysis work was first introduced, JD.

The detailed vid work to which Adam referred was first introduced at national team level with the 2006 Junior Ferns squad, and was fine-tuned for use by the Football Ferns at the 2007 Women's World Cup Finals.

It has been progressively introduced to other national teams since that time, and this is the first instance of it being used by a NZ team at the Club World Cup Finals - as Adam noted, it hadn't been used when City were in Japan in '06.

You're probably not aware, JD, that Simon Eaddy has been the goalkeeping coaching for the NZ girls for the past couple of seasons now, and part of his brief when working with those squads in training and match environments has been the video analysis work.

It's through this that he has honed his skills in this work to produce what Adam describes as the "detailed and meticulous" analysis which he "went through with the team at half-time".

I make no apologies for "always going on about the womans", as you describe it. And I don't give a monkeys if it offends you, either. You're not the first person in that queue, nor, I'm sure, will you be the last.

Cheers,

JR

Wow.  So John Herdman and his amazing technicolour dreamcoat invented video analysis?  That's incredible.  Also incredibly rude to make light of the power of work these people have done for ACFC.  Give credit where it is due ffs.

You do great work supporting and promoting women's football JR, but you don't put it in much context.  For example the All Whites at the Confeds Cup in France made extensive use of ProZone for detailed match analysis.  John Herdman deserves credit for bringing professionalism to the women's game in New Zealand but he is not the messiah.

Anyway, we've strayed off topic.  Let's go back to commending ACFC for their achievement.

Someone I know well who is fat and shall remain nameless made light of their first win.  Saying "well, so we should beat the Dubai champions, it'd be a travesty if we didn't".  But he can't say that about the African representatives.  It's a great win.  And what a left foot finish from Coombes from the edge of the area.  Rocket!

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

I bet Al Ahli, Atlante and TP Mazembe Englebert trawlled over hours and hours of footage of Auckland in the NZFC too....o wait.....hang on.....

Get in there son! Hayney had a great tournament. Went into the tourney as a striker and emerged as a winger who scores goals - quality

I've only been skim reading but I think I'm clear now that Simon Eaddy invented video analysis

ACFC - Better than the All Whites.

Team Wellington better than everyone.

04 Dec 20:10

TW - 4th best team in the world.

04 Dec 20:27

Funny looking back on this thread to 4-5 years ago when people actually wished ACFC well at the CWC.

Three for me, and two for them.

04 Dec 20:49

Surprisingly good result for ACFC. assume most people, like me, thought they would get a pounding. Anyone know how strong the Uzbek side was?

04 Dec 20:54

Just found the team list. 3 of the starting XI started against the All Whites.

04 Dec 21:09

ACFC = Uzbekistan 2014

Uzbekistan > All Whites 2014

All White = Italy 2010

Italy > Everybody 2006

... Ergo ACFC:

Fifa World Cup winners

Champions on Africa

Champions of Scotland

Winners of the A-League

European Cup winners

5th Best team in the world

Winners of the EPL

For the irrefutable logic to the above list please refer to my previous posts.

So you are potentially implying they drew with a 2nd string team there....

Agree. As much as 'they' think we are against them, its more that we tire of their stupid rhetoric in these forums. 2nd Bests pic says it all (the flogging a dead horse one)

Otherwise I am proud that a Kiwi team is performing well.
