Nelson drawing 1-1 with Manawatu is slightly embarrasing. First half of the season and Nelson looked for all money to challenge for the top spot. That loss to Canterbury was the turning point.
Luis - if our squad was more stable, perhaps we'd have rolled Canty in the 2nd round.??? Still Im pretty happy with the Falcon's first kick out season.
It sounded like Youngyoungheart were hard out trying to salvage some dignity from their annus horribilis. Apparently with a "bolstered" playing squad also...
Bolstered squad!?.. they had exactly the same team as the trip to Nelson.. think the Falcons just got worse
happy to admit I could have been misinformed/was lying - wasnt higgins playing in PN??
Remember when the Falcons played YoungHeart the first time it was the same weekend that the senior side had three suspensions. The Falcons have lost some players that have gone back to Auckland, US etc.. but still no excuses for not winning that match. Sounds like Nelson were all over them just couldn't finish. I think Nelson has earned respect, but definitely don't warrant having a senior team.
Gah! Another loss for Nelson ..just gets worse and worse for them. Tight conference though. Otago still a chance for top spot?
Otago into their first final after defeating Canty this afternoon 1 - 0 with the goal coming late in the gamw.
OOOOTAGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Well done lads!! all that hard work has payed off!! cant wait for next weekend!

THOUGHT EMBLEM AT WESTERN SPRINGS NOW ....
Nice to see Tore Waechter the big bean pole german kiwi getting accolades. Thought he was calm, excellent close control, made good decisions, and generally restored order when required. Hope he's back next season.....
As forecast p*ssing down with rain in Auckland.
My wife and I love our football but there's no way she is going to stand out in the rain from 10am to 4pm in an open field to watch two games of football, even though they're finals.
So our apologies to the youth teams we are unable to support you today as being oldies we do not wish to 'catch our death of cold'.
New Zealand Football and cronies enjoy the finals from your VIP position in the clubrooms while the rest of us seek shelter from wind and rain. You and the venue are a disgrace.
Auckland City beat Otago United 3-0 to win the ASB Youth League Grand Final.
Goals for Jordan Roberts, Thomas Konusi and Dean Lausev, all in the last half hour. Not sure on the crowd.
Probably about 200 or so turned up, with more sitting in their cars because of the poor weather. A deserved victory, couple of lapses hurt Otago who were otherwise impressive.
Sorry that the lads who came all the way from Otago weren't treated to a proper stadium and hospitality befitting a final. How was their takeout lunchbox?

Although the hospitality wasn't great, we (otago) should have won that final!!! Auckland were not deserved winners at all! We had 5 or so clear cut chances in the 1st half and were all over Auckland but that came back to cost us the game. You're right though lapses in concentration let us down but I thought from being on the pitch we had a fair battle and should have taken the trophy. Decent crowd considering the conditions but thanks to Waitakere for looking after us and well done on the Mens final win.
Congratulations to the Auckland team, the team that won were the team that deserved to win, Otago did well and definitely dominated in the first half against an Auckland team who played the worst first half I had seen them play throughout the whole competition. If Otago, even with their senior players were not good enough to punish a team in their time of weekness they did not deserve to win. Auckland who have played one overage player once in the whole competition came out in the 2nd half and played a bit better, they put 3 goals past an Otago team who have taken pride in only conceding 4 goals throughout their competition, all I can say is they were lucky the weather was crap and the team was not at it's best or it would of been way more, but well done for making it to the finals ...
Be nice Otto - Otago only had one over-age player in the final Sam Mepham at 21; and they sparsely used over-aged players in the regular season as well. Their player pool is miniscule compared with ACFC. It's ingracious in victory to say it was ACFC's worst first half of the season - actually it's a bit pathetic. Well done ACFC you were better on the day and well done Otago for turning up (especially for adapting to the conditions better) would have sufficed.
Sorry Toffeeman66 it is just the truth in saying it was ACFC's worst half of the season, how is that ingracious?, I was at every single game so I am in a pretty good position to back up that comment , were you?, I was very gracious in saying well done Otago making the final, at the end of the day the best team won ..

If it was there worst half - that's fine. I want to believe you. I did see a few games actually and ACFC were quality - it's just that so many people that post just make excuses for playing badly against a 'weaker' side. That's what I mean by ingracious. Blame the weather or whatever. When you are the best (as ACFC youth were) you don't need to go there.

Because you sound like a arrogant prick, typical being from ACFC I guess.
You lads only played poorly because we stuck it up ya. We were popping out tons of shots, allbeit a bit wild, and you guys couldn't keep up.
Half time we had it on points.
A soft penalty midway through the second half meant Otago had to play catch-up, and in throwing too many forward, conceded two more late.
Well done to your boys, game was played in good spirit and competition.
But you are blind if you think your team was even worthy of genuine 3-goal win

Just because ACFC are probably the most successful franchise in our national league and we're from the biggest city that doesn't make us "arrogant pricks". It's something alluded to often on this forum but the truth is most City supporters, bar a few oddballs, are damned friendly and hospitable albeit with a passion most other sides can't match. I've been at Fred Taylor Park when some of our singing fans have been threatened with violence by a Waitakere bonehead. I've been verbally abused by Rex Dawkins for being a "City wanker" when he has been treated with nothing but hospitality and respect at Kiwitea Street.
The whole "Jaffa" syndrome against ACFC is silly and unjustified. However, we've also received wonderful hospitality from Otago on an away trip so it's swings and roundabouts. I just wish the whole league had passionate fan bases like ACFC and CU.
