Pick their over-35's to again run away with the league then.

The O League games in Fiji will be tough because of the heat, local supporters and refs. However I'm convinced ACFC will overcome it as they have done in the past. Think Waitakere may struggle. Hopefully the O League final will be in Auckland.

Heard a rumour Waitakere are struggling to be able to finance sending a team to Fiji. It costs money to compete in the O League, despite Fifa's contribution. Might end up only having ACFC fly the NZ flag there.

Maybe Auckland can help them out? Gives nz more of a chance of reaching the CWC and saving the ASBP from being doomed.

if this is true, then shame on them for spending so much in other areas

if they can't go them canterbury should be invited to take their place

Potentially fair point actually reg22.

Would love to see canty united in the O league.

Of course it begs the question of whether Canterbury can afford it.

$250,000-300,000 for an O-League campaign?

Just because .............

Why not wait until we see who wins and finishes where this year before we talk about that. It would make sense to offer the team that comes 2nd to ACFC (assuming they win it) so that the team is together still from this years campaign.

I did call their financial strife prior to KO of the league and if they can;t go, will Bill McGowan give up having his ticket clipped? The team as certainly one backwards since he came on board of that, there is no doubt.

simply because this year's invitation is based on last year's results, i would have considered it logical for canterbury to be the next cab off the rank

If Waitakere can't afford to compete in the O League then Canterbury United should most certainly be given a chance, or whoever finishes second in the minor premiership this season. May be HBU. The point is whoever it is will get a rude shock at the expense of competing in the O League. Perhaps NZF will stop grabbing 15% of the O League winnings now that Van Hattum has gone and allow that money to be used to help cover costs.

topic change - I am looking forward to ACFC vs Wanderers today - I quite enjoyed the last game (vs Canterbury) and I'm interested to see how Wanderers play as I haven't seen them yet this season.

Wanderers not too shabby. Auckland were fairly average which made for a nail biting finish. I see Milne got MOM which is interesting as I thought he was guff. Hard to pick a MOM.

This is proving to be the most exciting ASBP's for years. Waitak now in fifth but I wouldn't put it past them to clinch a win.

Into the play-offs again -

Thought the Wanderers tried hard and ACFC let them off the hook too often by not pressing forward enough. Still too many back and square passes when under no pressure, just for the sake of keeping possession. City are at its best when they keep the attacking tempo up and move forward at pace. Having said that we created a lot of scoring chances. Should have put away another couple. Some good goalkeeping kept the score down.

A hot day and surprisingly good crowd. Looks like the final away game at Hawkes Bay United could turn into a crunch match unless City beat Southern next weekend and make their lead untouchable. Pleased to see CU and HBU making a real contest of it and HBU would only be one point behind City if they hadn't been docked three points for a silly oversight.

Think WU will struggle to make the playoffs with TW in such scoring form.

Looking forward to a final at Kiwitea Street with either CU or HBU.

yeah I went - i enjoyed the game, especially the first half - the second half got a bit scrappy but someone on here said they had both played on Thursday as well so both squads were probably a little tired.
Darren White i thought was the ACFC standout - in the first half he was unlucky not to score 2 or 3 - he looked sharp.
Both teams got themselves in trouble playing out from the back - i think both of the ACFC goals were from mistakes in their own third by Wanderers and that's certainly how Wanderers got their goal.
There were a number of times ACFC got themselves in trouble playing out from the back - I don't know what the issue was there but Tamati Williams seemed very unsure of himself.
Nice day though and good crowd - decent game.
Thought the ACFC fans were good - except there were a couple of songs that were dreadfully out of tune but good on them for supporting their team.
P.S. thought Bale deserved another yellow after coming on at halftime for a bit of a tirade at the ref...

Thanks for your comments, glad you enjoyed the game. Agree both teams faded in second half but ACFC were guilty of not putting away several good chances. Some fine goal-keeping kept them out. I'll mention the out of tune comment, perhaps the singers need more choir practise. Was hot under the tin roof though.

yeah it was a hot day..

I have to say there was one song i enjoyed - can't remember it off the top of my head but what i do recall is the guy next to me said "that's better than the yellow fever" and i thought to myself - that's going on the forum - for no other reason than to create some "discussion".... !

He was telling you the song title: "Better than the Yellow Fever." ... "We're better than the yellow fever.... better than the yellow fever..."

repeat ad infinitum.

I find that weird, a chant about the supporters of a team that plays in a completely different competition to them. Unless I'm wrong, YF don't sing a song about the knitting circle do they?

Small minded, chip on shoulder, annoying little brother they continue to embarrasses ACFC on a weekly basis.
I watched two games on the weekend one disappointing the other a fine advert for the oval ball game settled by a very good goal by one of ACFC's rejects.

Heard an ACFC related chant at the Nix game when they were here the other week.

Three for me, and two for them.

There's no "better than the YF" chant, that's just silly stirring on this forum. The ACFC supporters sing about their club and players, who I know really appreciate it. The coach also appreciates the singing, especially if the team's performance needs a boost on field. Last Sunday's singing was boisterous and often funny. There may be only about 15 singers but they make up for it with enthusiasm and passion. In the last few games the singers have been joined by some young Brazilian students and a couple of German supporters who think this is perfectly normal. They always get a good round of applause from the players after a game.

Always amazes me to see spectators in the stand stare at the singers as if this they can't understand why anyone would come to a football match and make any noise. I personally can't understand how someone can go to a game and not say anything the entire match.

Any idea which one it might be BM?

Nah it was "Auckland City are shit, and they play in blue" or something along those lines, to the tune of I'll Say Goodbye by the Exponents.

Funny how the 7 other ASBP sides were not chanted about in the same manner though.

This wasn't directed at the supporters though. What has the team done to upset YF exactly?
