personally im interested in following the progress of any player who played here and then who heads off for a career.

i would have been interested in how tade went in argentina last year

i don't think it will happen again, but if we had a paul warhurst or john mcginlay situation ever again i'd certainly be interested in following that progress!

i guess andreu guerau springs to mind

EDIT: any 'decent' player

Your logic points to Krishna being a Kiwi

Don't have to be eligible to Play for NZ to be a "Kiwi" was my point. the thread is kiwis overseas not NZ eligible players overseas

Browne got a scholarship to attend St Peters in Auckland in 2011 (I think). Next year aged 16 (I think) he was playing for not only St Peters but also for ACFC in the ASB, and was in their squad for the Club World Cup.

NB He was already living in Auckland when he represented PNG at the Fifa Under-17 qualifiers.

So, for the sake of being argumentative, is Emiliano Tade a Kiwi? Is Angel Berlanga a Kiwi? Is Danny Robinson a Kiwi?

I'm just asking to clarify the sake of consistency here.

Does anyone even know if he got his residency before he left? All I'm saying is he was in NZ for same amount of time as Wynn before he left to presume his career overseas and just by the mere fact we are all discussing the validity of having his own thread (where ever you want to class it) means there is enough interest to have one. Wynn is not technically eligible for NZ until he is 23 (required an exemption from FIFA laws to be eligible and required NZF fast track of his citizenship) but he is a "kiwi" Browne may not be technically eligible either but I would say deserves his own thread.

You'd have to think so seeing he came here to attend school in 2011 and continued at school here until late last year. That pretty much equals 5 years.

He played for PNG u17's in a FIFA tournament (2011 OFC u17s) before he was eligible for NZ, so will never be eligible for NZ.

Could make him a personal thread in the General Football section of Worldwide Football?

I liked the idea of that NZ Herald survey except for the inclusion of any old village green. Might have been better if they categorised it because there is absolutely no point in comparing Takapuna Grammar with the Basin Reserve

The survey was a good idea but for the life of me I can't see how Dave Farrington Park rated 22= and there was no mention of Bluewater Stadium (or Park Island for the uninitiated)

Yeah well that's just it - guessing not many of those involved have a connection with BWS and that's basically how they voted. Others haven't shaken their connection to their school grounds which is where it really lost its way.

no crowd here compared to previous seasons and its a semi, acfc supporters lost interest and boy can these imports moan

Permalink Permalink

Maybe its because there are no Central United youth coming through the ranks and the blame falls with the poor quality youth coaches and management.

Probably more like rescheduled game clashed with other plans people made. Sounds like an axe to grind there a boy who didn't make it perhaps? Why did NZF not fly CU up on Friday? Any organisation with a clue would manage the risk of a knock out semi which could go to extra time and Live coverage on TV by ensuring the the opposition would be there.  I see the Final was already booked for Thursday at QBE what ever the result of the semis. imagine the crowd there for CU vs HBU lol

To be fair you have to nominate a final venue more than five days in advance for all those things that require pre-planning (TV logistics etc).

That's just the way it is...

So whatever venue was chosen had scope for it to be a bad fit, ie, imagine if it was in Napier for Wellington v Canterbury.

Used to work when the Final was at the Basin Reserve year after year.

With Ryan DeVries still not eligible for the AWs did Auckland City meet the required player quota. Or is it just another rule that NZ Football turned a blind eye to

That is odd because Glyn Taylor was in the media going 'we knew all about this cause we had to make Ryan wait 5 years'

I am intrigued to find out why he is now not eligible cause he would have been a shoe in over Rogerson.

I think for the purposes of the ASB Premiership, Ryan De Vries counts as a kiwi!. Each club must have kiwi's for at least half of its match day squad. That means a minimum of 8 kiwi's! Auckland always has the bare minimum and usually 5 of those are on the bench!

Permalink Permalink

If the mix is supposed to be split 8 and 8 on the match day squad, they most likely consider de Vries a Kiwi. Considering he has sat out his 5 year period, I would count him and NZ eligible too. Someone must have further information.

That's why Ivan was often on the bench for City. there was never any intention he may play but he 'bolstered' the kiwi ranks up to 8!

"New Zealand Qualified Player, being a player who holds New Zealand citizenship." is the wording, so seems they left themselves wriggle room there. bullshark wriggle room imo, because the rule is meant to be about having AW eligible players there

What's happening with Clayton Lewis I see he was stood down from Onehunga did he get 6 months/2 years who's to blame ACFC,NZ Football or the boy himself

If it was disclosed he was asthmatic he (NZF) would have had it all signed off with the Right bodies, so no foul.

Blew.2 I don't understand your reply . The fact that he's not playing indicates to me that its more to this than being an asthmatic .

For asthma medication It is as simple TUE form (therapeutic use  exemption)  that all sports doctors and international players are clearly made aware of .

It is about time the authorities came out and said why he is being stood down and for how long?

Where's it said that he's been stood down from Onehunga?

Thought it looked like a case of him exceeding whatever limit of the substance his exemption allows him when it first came out. Puzzling it's gone on for so long.

Who was the Champions League player that was trying to "shop window himself" at Auckland City before the deal fell over? Great to see Ramon sign on for another year.

Glad leniency was shown as it just seemed like a bit of foolishness on Clayton's part where he could've managed his asthma a lot better glad he'll be back on the field very soon.

To discuss this away from the player concerned, does this set a precedent and if so, is it a fair one? I read that the tennis player Mark Neilson (sp?) was suspended for using a hair regrowth drug which, if you take on the face of it, seems just as innocent as an inhaler with unintended doping consequences.

I just I ask if its fair based on other suspensions. I guess an inhaler is a needed health requirement where as hair loss.... why fight it?

Ventolin is supposedly restricted to certain levels as it can increase oxygen levels for non asthmatics so I kind of understand the WADA regulations but Clayton genuinely is asthmatic and obviously needs to be able to breathe he just over did his dosage so I think 1 month is fair. As for Mark Nielsen Finasteride is a known masking agent as well as a hair loss treatment he could've been using it to hide other performance enhancing drugs.
