The Dragon were meant to play Team Wellington in Blenheim this weekend but TW have pulled the plug. I hear that management trying to arrange another game but will still be in Blenheim so hopefully hear news on players etc.

Now playing Nelson who were due to play Marborough, with Marlborough withdrawing so Canterbury United could get a game under their belt.

When is this game?

All ASB squads have to be named by late October so one would assume that likely after the second pre-season game next weekend.

Hear Canterbury United went down 2 - 1 today to Nelson Suburbs. Danny Boys put the Dragons in front woth two late goals to Suburbs. Ben Wright and ???. Coey kept Suburbs in the game with some great saves to Canterbury wasting some clear chances.

Canterbury United should have Ben Wright, Sam Ayers, Omar Guardiola, Mark Johnston and Coey Turipa in their squad. Crazy that they don't have any of the five.

Luis is Omar Guardiola releted to Johnny Guardiola the former keeper, who was banned for striking a ref (Warren Potter) in the old Southern League.

Not crazy, common sense. They were all approached and turned the chance down. Not CU's doing Luis.

So who is Luke Marsland?

Luke Marsland is a fella from Manchester. Seems to play up front somewhere, some say looks alright some say looks average. Still the bulk of the players were there Tuesday night but still no mention of squad. Clapham and Kamo trained as did everyone but Ede (Appeared injured)

A bit different as Auckland imported directly many of their players for just ASB with most of Canty's non Kiwi's have played their footy in NZ for a while, ie Kelly, Terris, Tom Scwartz etc.
If Dan Ede is in the squad is he a Kiwi? as has spent over 50% of his life here
I can recall a few season back when Canty United was made up of mainly young local players and we finishes stone last for two seasons on the trot.
I know the Dragon's Board say they want to give local talent a go but surely the ASB Premier League about making the cut for the O League.

yip, good point

but if you look at auckland's current squad, krishna, bale, berlanga have  all been here for 3-5 years

i think you're being a bit generous to tom schwarz, correct me if i'm wrong but isn't he a relatively recent arrival?

by the sounds of it, canterbury will have the following foreign accents in their dressing room this season: terris, schwarz, schwarz, marsland, kelly, morrison, marquez, boys.  2 of them are naturalised kiwis.

i'm surprised braithwaite has gone down this path, last year's team just needed a tweak to make sure they challenged again

i've said the same about auckland in the past, we need quotas

With the squad still not announced I don't know if all mentioned will be in there. But Tom Schwarz has been here 3 and a half years therefore fits in with the Auckland boys who have been for 3-5 years.

Tom Schwarz have played in Dunedin for a few years before coming up to Christchurch, been here about five years now, with brother Dan arriving in NZ in 2013.

i don't have a major problem with it, but where's the next clapham going to come from if 8 of the team are foreigners and another one is clapham and another one's a keeper?  everyone seems pretty excited about o'brien and mitchell and there are some other decent young players down there, but what chance do they have other than picking up the scraps?

last year they had hulbert filling a spot unnecessarily so i hope marsland (super name btw) is of more use than him.  if he's better than marquez and kamo, i guess he'll be worth having, but he doesn't seem to have any pedigree whatsoever

On MPL form would expect O'Brien and Mitchell to be added  - Ede injuried at the moment unsure how serious with other keeper to added likely to be the young lad from FC Twenty, with 5 (I think it is five) Academy players to be named, so who else likely to be added.

Of thosed names so far means the following squad members from last season 'missing': Barton, Bayrev brothers, Bush, Fifi, Knox, Mitchell, Pitman, Josh Smith, Spain, Wellbourn, Darren White, Wortelboer, Yamamoto - I think that is them all.

One's on bold will not be back this year for various reasons: retired, no longer in Christchurch, having a break etc.

If Ken Yamamoto back in Christchurch over sumner then you would surely add him in.

How is Ash the Flash injury comimg along?

I'm guessing this could be the squad for weekend as it includes no youth players who will be away at Napier and tsunami tournament. Louis Bush seems to be another of the academy but unsure on the fifth. Ede is out 1-2 weeks with an injured ankle from last weeks game.

White is an Auck City player.
