FT Canterbury United 2 WaiBOP 0 with both goal coming after the break to Angus Kilkolly and Brock Messenger. Brock's goal was the Dragon's 300th goal in 190 ASB Premier league games.

A 5th place finish for wht was a decent squad in the youth league just isn't good enough. In my opinion we could definitely have done without the overage players...week in and week out we averaged at least 2 and they made no difference. In fact the game against TW last week Danny Boys was rather shocking and kept getting beat. Pointless in my opinion bringing in all those out of towners if it meant our Canty based youth team players would be sitting out because Willy wants to have a huge player base n still make sure they are all kept playing. I've watched all the youth games and could see kids who were being left out getting more n more dispondent watching older/overage players playing. It is seriously not helping football in canterbury n yes you may argue tht it happens at pro level at other clubs but we aren't a pro club n should be concentration on developing our future premiership players not accomodation senior players Willy is just trying to keep happy.

Disagree. Had Canterbury won last weekend then they would have played for the league title today. Instead they conceded in the final minute against Wellington and they won the title instead. Today Canterbury lost to the defending champions, who despite finishing five points behind the winners ended up all the way down in seventh place. The league was just much tighter this year. Auckland City hit 7 goals in three different games and also beat the eventual winners.

Plus the senior side is going a hell of a lot better than they did last year.

Too many beesies for me I just endorsed wht you said. Although I don't fully disagree with you. My point was based more on the fact tht we used so many overaged players in a spot tht an actual youth team player should be taking n it made no difference to our play. I also agree tht the senior squad is going a hell of a lot better than last year.

The Press report not too accurate today.

Having been at the game Southern were on top for long periods and conceded the 2nd goal when down to 10 men as for the 3rd goal the free kick awarded was wrong and in correct from the official (good free kick though)

It is all about taking your chances

Southern deserve a few breaks and have been unfortunate at time this season and are losing players to outside commitments weekly, could be a long season.

Canterburys good start will see them be in the play offs come end of season ,i feel they will have to up the quality to trouble ACFC

There will be several players in Auckland not good enough for those 2 teams but certainly good enough to play in the league for other sides.

As an outsider looking in, you have 2 choices. Pick locals or win. There seems to be a lot of whinging about locals not picked but yet you want to win. If you look at the history of the comp, you can't have both so pick your poison and deal with it.

You are intimating that having de Jong junior in the squad will result in a better chance of them winning?  Personally I think this is big BS and NZ football is in a sorry state (like we didn't know). Pick a young local over massaging de Jong senior any day IMO.

The reality is that Andre is a good player, not sure how he will go at Canty but he was consistently one of the better players for Wanderers.

I think he has more pressure on his shoulders because of his last name and I would say so far has succeeded without much assistance.

It's good that you've chimed in Chopah. Ellerslie and Fred and all - no sense of bias. But I'm being facetious and no harm is meant.  Taking a step back and looking at your words.." without much assistance.." -  what are you on? Freddie and Willy are tight as.  Can I quote the Specials?  "Are you so blind that you cannot see?"  And then you say "Andre is a good player"  Yes he is.  But is he really that gooder than what's down here?  Return to the Franchise model and how it was rolled out by NZF way back when.  And see how far NZF have caused us to stray - that's what I say.  We have a situation where an Auckland coach is bringing down Auckland players to a strong football region at the expense of local players.  You might sit up at Michaels Ave sipping on your whatever and just loving that - but for us down here it's just another nail in the coffin of football outside of Auckland and Wellington.

so what about now big mouth?

I think most Dragons fans are happy with second place presently.

I agree second place is awesome but still concerned take Andre de Jong out of the team we be struggling forwards look less than average and to be honest de Jong has shown up Clapham massively! I can say I have confidence in the team from midfield back. I was one of the biggest critics over the out of towners but least some of them have proved they deserve to be there. Just fearing the worse when midfield stop scoring

Also hear several of the 'imports' are keen to play here over the winter.

So a 3-1 home loss today vs Hawkes Bay. Oddly enough, i thought it was the best Canterbury had played this season. HB scored inside 2 minutes then Canterbury totally dominated the remainder of the first half. Once the equaliser was scored there was only one tam that was going to win.....unfortunately no-one told HB that but both there goals were completely against the run of play. That's football sometimes!

In echo some of the comments earlier, for Canterbury i thought the back was solid and midfield of Clapham, Jesse and De Jong were great. Upfront was a tad ordinary though. Chan works hard but doesn't create much, Angus does ok but Atkin Kaua well off his game today and should have been subbed well before he eventually was. Was the difference today as Hamish Watson for HB was outstanding i thought, very strong on the ball

So that makes it alright then? You think it's ok to play a centre half over a genuine forward?

Is Dan Ede still injured or not wanted by the coach just trying to please the fans by having him in the squad?

Do not think Wally is the sort of coach to based a selection on pleasing the fans.
