Some interesting results.

IBU pummelled Karori who look like they are in real trouble. Surprised to see Upper Hutt get up over Petone

Intriguing
Miramar and Olympic was 1-1
ok last time I trust the cap football site on game day.
You should use tribe mate. It gives up to date scorelines (sometimes. Some games it only gives it once it's done) and let's you track a number of leagues

Tribe has the wrong score as well, says Miramar won 2-0, when it was definitely 1-1 - I was there!
Well that's awkward, normally it has it right

Think it has a problem registering that an OG by X players means it counts against their team. Not for it.

UH vs Karori this w/e will be interesting given if UH win they are realistically 5 points off from being safe and Karori will be in big trouble. could say the same with IBU vs Petone

There is no relegation in the MCL or WCL this season.

Still plenty to play for tho despite relegation.

IBU vs Miramar
Olympic vs Napier
Wharf vs Upper Hutt
Phoenix vs Petone
Wests vs FC Western

The Olympic game looking like the most interesting although will be curious to see how FC Western go

Three man bench for Western as they travel down to Endeavour Park today. 😬

A couple of familiar names if you follow the local stuff really closely in Braeden Quilter-Phipps and Ilias Makkoul, but other than that theres not too much to write home about. Some young lads in there today too making their Central League debuts - Cumberledge (17) Bell (17/18) and Gower-Johnson (17/18).

Alfonso Porras (Fonsi) - 🇻🇪/🇮🇹, Evan Walters - 🇺🇸, Remo Merlo - 🇺🇸, & Illias Makkoul - 🇨🇦/🇲🇦 are the imports who are available at this point.

Western squad list from the Central Football website for 2026 also has a couple of familiar names on there too. Alman Kwan - Samoan international, Jackson Bigwood - Local lad who's been in the US college system and previously been at Western Suburbs. Otherwise it's largely a lot of locals for the season ahead.

This ressies game is nuts.
3' 1-0 Nathan Walker ⚽️
19' Anaru Cassidy 🟨 for the foul and then straight 🟥 - Dissent
22' Penalty - Foul by Petone keeper in a 1-on-1 situation
23' Nathan Walker misses the penalty.

Very spicy game so far.

Don't know who it was, but it was obviously someone of the Phoenix persuasion who, when the red card was issued yelled out very audibly "Ref, you're a moron"...

The red will be OFFINABUS, dissent is a yellow card. Ref missed a couple of bad challenges by Petone in the leadup but doesnt warrant whatever Cassidy said.

The keeper avoiding a yellow for the pen (blatant DOGSO in the box) was weird though.

Dunno if a panenka was the right play, certainly not one that goes sailing over the bar.

I've only had one eye on the game but James Berry has been making some bizarre decisions.

Valley FC til I die?

Yeah it was all going on.

Ref should have blown up the previous fouls on Loke and then Walker, but you could see from a mile away that Cassidy was going to go in for the retribution challenge.

Earnt the yellow straight away for his efforts and then turned around and swung his arm in disgust (obviously had some words too) and then straight red was shown.

Poor stuff all round really.

Olympic 0-3 Napier City Rovers

A real surprise result tbh, but the scoreline probably didn't reflect the game.

The first half was very scrappy and frankly both teams struggled to create anything at all, Napier found the goal early in the second half and while Olympic huffed and puffed they couldn't really do as much as they'd like to threaten them, throw in a couple late Napier goals from Ben Stanley as Olympic threw players forward and yeah you end up with a 3-0 result.

Sam Lack probably best on the park imo for Napier, Ben Stanley did well bagging a brace at the end too plus their defence and keeper Tonning were solid as played very well. No standouts of note from Olympic tbh!

Island Bay 0-2 Miramar

Wow, a feisty game this. Miramar started very in control of possession, and soon were ahead through Bobadilla. The wind ramped up and made the game a bit crazy, the odd chance falling at both ends but a late pen initially awarded as a free kick tucked away by Martin Bueno and 2-0 to the good at the half, despite Island Bay actually looking quite threatening in parts.

Second half Miramar became much more effective at slowing down the game/game management and largely cruised for the first 20-30 minutes or so (apart from an absolutely top draw save to his top left corner by Matt Oliver!). Island Bay ramped up the pressure and energy a lot more late on and honestly credit to them for that because the game looked pretty out of reach but they kept pushing. Ended 2-0 though, the energy not really matched by the quality for Island Bay.

Miramar probably got more of the decisions and perhaps won a few soft fouls, the home crowd and Island Bay players/coaches didn't seem happy with some of the histrionics from a few Miramar players. But it definitely didn't have an impact on the result.

Best on the park - had to be Bobadilla for Miramar I think, they controlled the game for large parts and he was a massive part of that, scoring helps too. Guys like Theo Ettema and Timothy Fenton (brother of Louis I think?) were solid as too. Island Bay didn't exactly play badly, but their attack hasn't seemed to have clicked yet, by far their most creative player was a younger guy named John Attard, looked to make things happen but for some reason he was playing RB for a lot of the match before eventually being moved forward! Funny one that.

Most importantly - Island Bay have the BEST HOT CHIPS!!!

Great day out at Wakefield today. Actually awesome seeing four good games (IBU ressies as well).

Miramar more clinical but IBU put up a good fight.

Is it the end of an era for Olympic?!

it's really hard to tell for Olympic and you could put Auckland City in the same boat, there is not much point of continuing to stay with the two given the emergence of the OFC League/Auckland FC and you don't really need to be playing for certain clubs to be signed i.e. Auckland City and Team Wellington.

The best thing long term about the OFC Pro League is that it makes the NZ League unpredictable IMO.

Hardly, they are virtually assured of qualifying for the new National League given their consistant form in recent years.  They currently have  some who are clearly not up to it but they have  in recent times recruited well.

Don't forget many of the OFC Pro League players will return to domestic football end of May.

You would think Olympic, ACFC, AFC Reserves & ChCh United will sign up quite a few of them. Strengthening them all for the 2nd half of the winter leagues.

Basically dropping in fully pro guys who have been training full time for 5 months, into amateur leagues.

Has anyone got an idea where some of the Olympic old guard has gotten to? the likes of Hamish Watson, JHS, TDP, Gavin Hoy, and Gianni Bouzoukis?

Tor overseas, Watson injured. I think Henry Sinclair played against Miramar?

I do think the people they have replaced those guys with are not of the same quality (hence my end of an era statement). Respect to what they have done but . It’s pretty hard to maintain those super high standards

might have to put away the blue smoke bombs on the sideline and be a bit more humble this year

Is creating atmosphere and supporting your team being conceited, or do you just not like the Greeks?
I have horrible opinions

I don’t mind watching Olympic falter 😂

But also appreciate what they have done over the last few years. Have to admire and respect what they have done.

Exactly, it's hard not to be impresssed with such a long stretch of dominance. But at the same time, it puts a target on their backs and it'll be nice to see someone else have a shot at the title.

Olympic are nicknamed the Greeks. They were formed by Greek immigrants. I don't think he's attacking Greek culture.
