Marama: Spot on assessment I thought.

Tigers: Siggy would benefit from a training programme at that level. I did notice early in the season and last year as well that he didn't play full 90mins that often due to cramp. Haven't seen it for the last few weeks but that could be another problem.

Pressured... pressured not pressurised.  To pressurise them you need a Hyperbaric chamber.

(this post is delivered to you by the campaign against word misuse by football commentators).

Anyway, as you were.

keep on fighting the good fight Mr Canute (and no, you young uns, that's not a cunningly disguised term of abuse) - he was a famous chap from down Norwich way (now there's the foul language to HN's ears )

i dont understand colins tactics in playing 3 5 2 either, havent seemed to have played it at all this season, and he decides on it in the biggest match of the year thus far! ridiculous! from the sounds of it, not a happy camp at all...we will sit and wait anxiously to see what happens there!

This would not be the 1st time he has changed the playing formation late in the piece ....maybe he looks to catch out the opposition with a different gameplan but then it backfires - shouldnt he try the formation leading into the big game to know if it is an option?

Is Clive Campbell still on the scene or is he on the outer too?

I never heard Hays comments bout English coaches and supporters
but maybe he is just bitter that he never made it in England?
Strange that he should sl*g of England but was so quick to go and play there?
Or maybe he is not happy with Alan Jones helping out at Waitakare this year?
Or maybe he should just join all the xenophobic supporters down in Hawke's Bay

I don't think he's sl*gging off England as such, it's more a go - and a very justified one I feel - at how we always take all our leads for the UK and now it's even made its way to the supporters. The umbilical cord should have been cut years ago. A lot of the poms that get involved in football at this end of the earth like being big fish in a small pond after achieving a big, fat zero in the UK.
And on the subject of such things - although I acknowledge that he did achieve a fair bit in England - how is it that Darren Bazeley is still getting a game? He's been well below average since he arrived on these shores and he's getting worse.
Neil Emblen however, is a different story. Classy player and looking fitter now he's at Waitak than he ever was playing full-time at the Knights, under a full-time fitness coach. Work that out.
Nix, Leyton Orient and Alloa Athletic supporting schmuck.

Maybe thats why Mr Seripisos put his money into that aussie team!!
I also never heard Hay's comments but doesnt sound to different from what he said
on WOF show a few weeks back
Would disagree a few people at game that Pearce was best player on the pitch yes he has scored a couple of goals this season against us but sorry i dont rate him at all
Hay was best player for Waitakare by a mile!!!!

Do you know what nemesis means

How 'bout we sing Waltzing Matilda at Nix home games?

I am with Hay's sentiment. Its great to have ex pats supporting football in NZ. Not just British ex pats, but many variations of Europeans have put a huge amount into football in this country - money, time and enthusiasm.

But, NZ football needs its own identity and personality. We now have a couple of generations of NZ born footballers and football fans. We dont need to lean so heavily on second tier British footbal know-how and we need to be increasingly building links and relationships with Asia, Australia and the Pacific.

I think this is all happening anyway, and its inevitable.

Sorry, give me second tier pom over questionable rated Asian and never going to make it Islander any day. CAPPED South Africans are the exception.
I would rather have Dasher (Darren Fellows) in my team over any of this years new NZFC signings. Passion, commitment and entertaining, in between times he actually played a bit of football.

This is a thread about the NZFC.  Either re-write it so I understand the relevance or I'm deleting it Spud.

partially my fault for the divergence News. Apologies.

and spud, i'll take back the reference to "second tier". that was probably unnecessary.

But the fundamental point remains - nz football is and has to evolve - Mr Hay is right.

Good win for Waitak in the weekend

i totally agree with you, you cant 'experiment' with formations against the likes of waitakere and wellington, maybe other teams.
im led to beleive campbell has been gone for several weeks, since the first waitakere match at croatian club. was a post about it. guessing they didnt match opinions?

It always amuses me how people's opinions on a topic can be brought into any topic of conversation. This was about the Waitak vs City game on the weekend.

I think the back 3 for Waitakere on the weekend were immense. Grant Young and Jordan got absolutely no joy and those three are becoming a pleasure to watch as they defend. They never panic and they always look composed. Any young player should watch them or Siggy to see how to control a player in possession and then deny them time and space.

My take on the game was it was a gamble between the two coaches as to who would blink first. Tuaa played 3 at the back and Milicich played 3 up front. Milicich seemed happy to be outnumbered in the midfield but he was barking instructions all day to his strikers to close down the back players of City. Tactically Milicich seems to be all over Tuaa and Tuaa doesnt seem to have the answer. It certainly is going to be fascinating to see what develops.

It aint over yet folks . . .

i agree with your comments marama, milicich seemed to have city covered all over the field, well done to him on that. Surely tuaa has the knowledge to outsmart waitakere, they have 2 great strikers but limited to supply to them in the game. Sinkora i thought have shown to fill this role with lee but didnt quite work out that way.

Who Do You Beleive To Be ACFC's Best Midfield Combination Then?

Seamo and Smudger. Mulrooney when fit

not sure that anyone knows the answer to that. There biggest problem is no pace on the flanks. It depends who they play against - against the lessor teams they could play Ki and Campbell - against the sides that mark they will need to play people who can tackle and run and arent afraid to roll their sleeves up and backtrack. Who picked up the forward runs of Bale and Seaman on the weekend - none of City's midfielders even wanted to know.

ACFC are a decent midfielder light and suffer from dulicity or lack of quality.

Ki is a ball distributing defensive midfielder
Campbell is a ball distributing midfielder
Coombes is a utility whose best attribute is that he is a hound and will chase all day because he is very fit. Tends to be a more attacking midfielder.
Sinkora is much the same as soupy in that he is a ball distributing midfielder.
Chris Morris is the ball winner and tough guy they need, he just isn't up to that class level to be effective hence why RVS has played a couple of games in the middle because he is not scared to get stuck in and mix it up.

Sadly, the workhorse ball winning skills of Seaman or Smudger are what is missing.

To be a defensive midfielder dont you have to be able to tackle? Yet to see Ki make a tackle when it is do or die time.

Chris Morris looks like he is 8 weeks away from being fit enough to cope with this level.

Seaman and Smudger are definitely being missed. Seaman was a city player until Tuaa decided that he didnt need him - do you think he regrets that decision?

You have a point in respect of Ki. Maybe a deep midfielder would be a better description?

Mulrooney coming back (if he does for next year??) is duplicity again on Campbell and Ki just more niggly.

If one were to speculate could you draw a parallel between Clive Campbell-Jeff Campbell-Paul Seaman-midfielders-Clive unemployed?

Are You Saying That Campbell And Seaman Didnt Get On? That Might Not Be A Bad Midfield Combo!!!!! The Reason Clive Cambell Left Was He Did Not Agree With Tuaa's Selections For Teams And Did Not Let Campbell Have Much Involvement In The Team, Meaning What Is The Point In Him Being There...I Thought Ki Lee And Jeff Campbell Had A Great Combo Going At The Start Of The Season And Didnt See Any Reason To Change That??

Let me make that a little clearer for you. Please note operative words in bold:

"If one were to speculate could you draw a parallel between Clive Campbell-Jeff Campbell-Paul Seaman-midfielders-Clive unemployed?

I wasn't saying that Campbell and Seaman didn't get on. I know that initially Jeff was going to stay with Waitakere because of CWC but then signed for ACFC. You COULD speculate that its because he may get more game time under his dad, who knows. Then Seaman moves to Waitakere as someone else mentioned because Colin let him go. From that, you COULD draw an inference that Seaman was told he would sit behind soupy... Clive is no longer at ACFC and about that time, his son stopped playing as much (I know he is injured currently, but wasn't when Clive left)

It pure speculation but easy to draw parallels.......

Did Milicich want Campbell or was he let go. He certainly wanted Seaman and he already had Bale and Butler so would Campbell command a place in that midfield.

Clive - jeff - Seaman is probably closer than anyone likes to think. Clive and Seaman don't get on from what I have heard and Jeff plays with his dad. Saw both Campbells talking to Milicich at the end of the game - wonder what that was about????

P.S. as for Campbell and Ki midfield - can't imagine what Bale and Seaman would do to that. Even Colin had to change that or get beaten as his job must be on the line if he doesnt win something. It is Auckland City we are talking about.Marama2008-03-18 17:23:46

SORRY I DIDNT READ YOUR COMMENT PROPERLY AGENT 47, I THOUGHT YOU KNEW SOMETHIGN WE DIDNT!!

I THINK IN THE SEAMAN LEAVING ACFC, HE WAS AT A TRAINING GAME AND HAD A FEW KICKS AT THE NEW KOREAN AND ENDED UP STOMPING ON HIM ONCE, COLIN WASNT HAPPY WITH THAT HAPPENING TO HIS NEW STAR SO SENT HIM PACKING.

I CAN SEE WHAT YOURE SAYING WITH CLIVE CAMPBELL LEAVING, AND JEFF CAMPBELL NOT PLAYING, I THINK HE PLAYED FOR A LITTLE BIT LAST WEEK BUT INJURED HIMSELF?!

IT WAS SAID THAT MILICICH OFFERED A CONTRACT TO CAMPBELL, ALONG WITH BALE AND BUTLER, BUT WHEN CAMPBELL SIGNED FOR ACFC HE THEN HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET SEAMAN INSTEAD.

I DONT THINK CAMPBELL AND LEE HAVE PLAYED CENTRE MIDFIELD AGAINST WAITAK EXCEPT FOR THE FIRST 1-1 DRAW. THEN CAMPBELL HAS PLAYED ON THE WINGS INSTEAD AND LEE HAS EITHER PLAYED WITH COOMBES, MCGEORGE OR OTHER COMBINATIONS.
