I think Bill Robertson is the obvious choice if he wants it

How would NCR feel about that bit of  conflict of interest? Would he be able to continue there with the "academy" etc at rovers, or in any capacity. HBU only part time role, not sure what his role at NCR is. Will he bring backroom staff? Stu James can insist on playing local players.

Dunning seems to be alright and has been involved with set up, would he be a chance? Would CG be interested again. What about Mr Helberg coach of the year nomine?

Interesting to see only require a B licence... thought was a min of an A.

Napier City Rovers FC is applying for credentials to become the back-up custodians in a bid to protect the Hawke's Bay province's rights to retain its presence in the national summer league.

"The reason we're doing that is because there are aspiring Auckland and Wellington clubs [one each] who have applied for B licences so we've done the same," says club finance manager and board member Graeme Sole.

In the latest episode of the Hawkes Bay United sage there is an article in this morning's Hawkes Bay Today saying that Brett will not reapply for the coaching job.  There will be a lot of Hawkes Bay clubs pleased to read that.  I believe many clubs at the recent Hawkes Bay United meetings were not short in telling the Hakes Bay bosses that they were having trouble getting their supporters to come along and listen to Brett.

Also the article says that Hawkes Bay United are starting from zero.  No debt carried forward.  Does that mean that Central Football has writtten everything off.  I cannot see that Hawkes Bay United would have the finance to pay everything off.  A hell of a lot of money to write off. The Central Football AGM will be interesting next week.  No doubt Soley will be on his band wagon regarding the Debt that Hawkes Bay United has run up.

so who is the 4th local coach to have applied??? Grant Hastings???

wonder I'd ifill put his name in?

Interesting selection panel, not a massive amount of higher level coaching experience between them.

I hear that Jose Figueira's wife will be relocating to Napier with her job and that he's put his name in the hat. No Joke!

if that is the case and he gets it will be a challenge for him for sure. I'm always intrigued to see how the "better" coaches would go with minimal budget.

I can't say that that's a particularly believable rumour.

cant see CG playing... Robertson seemed to ok last by all accounts. Especially if its going to be a youngish side full of HB talent.

could they get kilkolly back with all the changes happening at TW no o league. Akers back? Surely gearys would open up a job for him to get him back being  local product.

Would imagine Abba would sign. Going to be interesting make up of squad while havelock and marist doing well with young players it's a big jump in level. And previous post suggest not many local lad good enough at rovers.

How is Fergus Neil playing this season  after his lengthy lay off?

8 non-kiwis' in the Napier 11 yesterday. How 'local' will the new HBU be? Or because they've played here for a couple of years do they qualify as HB lads?

Some news for those interested and outside the region, seems Angell has parted ways with Central Football and newspaper hints at the parting not being amicable. Neither he or CF prepared to go into details.

I've tried to read up on it but it's stuck behind NZH stupid paywall. Anyone got the text?

  • Did Brett Angell step down from his Central Football position or was he given a shove?
  • For now, Angell will only say his departure was an emotional one.
  • Last season's Hawke's Bay United coach, Brett Angell, is no longer on the payroll of Central Football and was released from his job early last month.

Angell this week confirmed he had officially finished in the role of football development manager but was still in the throes of tying up a few loose ends with the amateur parent body in the catchment area.

"At the moment it's still ongoing and I've left but I can't say too much around that but there's still some ongoing elements that are still being [discussed]," said the Englishman who turns 51 on August 20.

It marks an end to an administrative role Angell had held with Central Football for a shade more than a decade during which time he had controversially assumed the mantle of the Thirsty Whale-sponsored Bay United franchise team in the summer of 2013-14. It had come at the expense of then incumbent mentor, Chris Greatholder, with the blessing of the governing body.

In a report circulated to its stakeholders, titled "Central Football Development Team changes", operations and game development officer Darren Mason, of Napier, says the changes have seen Angell "leave Central Football".

"We would like to thank Brett for his contribution to the player development space at Central Football and wish him well in his future endeavours," Mason had said in revealing a "new direction" in the quest of the federation's development team focusing on engaging with a wider cross-section of its stakeholders.

The report was posted on its website but a click yesterday prompted a message of: "Sorry. It's not you. It's us. We've been unable to process your request. We might be performing maintenance or you may have discovered an issue."

When contacted earlier this week Mason confirmed Angell's stint with them was over but declined to comment on any specifics or if the parent body was engaged in legal proceedings over contractual matters. He had referred the newspaper to its social media platform.

"I'm not going to make any more comments on that," he said.

Angell said he was looking at "potential options if they eventuate" outside the province.

"I've been involved in the industry since coming over 10 years ago and that's what ideally my skills sets need looking into to retain my involvement," he said, ruling out returning to his birth country right now.

The former EPL striker said he had bought land in Napier, which had thrown "a few things into confusion".

Asked if he had resigned from Central Football or whether he was given a push, Angell said it was an emotional exit, but he would not elaborate for now.

Angell had not re-applied for the position of Bay United head coach in May. Greatholder and Bill Robertson were appointed co-coaches to lead the team into the national summer league in the 2019-20 season.

so early signing have been local which is great. What are the keeper stocks like in HB, seeing the keepers NCR have had in their match day squads this year would suggest not the greatest.?
