Players getting paid? Surely they would have departed in January if they weren't?

Looks like some publicity as to the financial viability of the National League ahead of the meeting today.

I can't believe that NZF is so ignorant of the facts before them.  It's not just HBU that are having financial problems.

Would it be affordable if we gave up this "shamateur" nonsense and enforced regulations against player payments?

Here are HBU income and costs for 2017. Hard to see where players payments are. Probably comes under teams costs, which isn't a whole lot when you think it's averaged over 20 odd people.

The fact it's run at a substantial loss is pretty irresonsible though

Seems the real issue for HBUis the lack of money coming in. Sponsorships across the board is pretty low and grants are very uneven. Team Welly got 380k in grants and 60k in sposnership in 2017. Auckland city got $1m for 'grants, sponsers and donations'. Waitak got $350k in grants and $60k in sponserships.

Whereas for smaller regions it much lower. For example, Southern 98k in grants, 40k in sponsers.

Yeah that's a big problem. It's not cheap to run a competitive National League side even if you aren't paying players (much)

This is true. Southern spend similar to their income.

Southern United: Income 180k | Expenses 187K

Out of interest, here are the others I could find.

AC: Income 1.2m | Expenses 1.3m

WU: Income 454K| Expenses 402K

TW: Income 630K| Expenses 615K

CU: Income 244K| Expenses 315K

To be fair, they must have had an explicit (or implicit) agreement from the Federation to underwrite it.  But that's not really sustainable given how many in Central Football seem to be up in arms.

Sam Mason-Smith's gone. Massive blow for the club on the park but expenses-wise, a smart move?

Every game makes it more ridiculous that Brett refused to sign Robertson. Even though he was a local, kiwi and wanted to play. Now he’s back at TW. Outrageous decision, Brett tainting his legacy. Defensively woeful. 7-2 to an average Waitak side.

Thats gotta be time up for Angell now.

Bill Robertson will make a better coach for them

Prob is time for him to hand it over to someone else! I think he has prob had enough of the the issues with the franchise financially obviously limiting him with the players he has to work with.

Is Bill qualified enough to coach national league?

Will the team be back next season? Hard to say. Whichever way it goes, I cannot see Brett returning.

Why not? He is employed by Central Football and probably costs bugger all as coach of HBU.

There is another proven young striker in the squad - Jorge Akers has been a relentless striker scoring goals aplenty throughout his youthful playing career - including scoring for BIRMINGHAM CITY in England on his debut trials there.

Unfortunately Hawkes Bay United, being short of defenders, use him as a full back..... but a striker has a different mindset & skills to that of a defender !

Brett doesnt see him as a striker for some reason.Although they are short on defenders now, they wernt at the start of the season and jorge was still being played there or coming off the bench to play there

Is it players not wanting to play? or no money to pay the players what the "think" they are worth so don't want to play?

The same thing has happened to Waitak, does no one want to play for Millich or is it because there were not being paid?

Having known a couple players in or around the club its both.I know players who wont return while he is there and i know players who wont return because they havnt been paid what they are owed for past seasons..In saying that there is a few players who do like Brett and have returned for a number of seasons

hmm sounds like any coach then... obviously relationships are key some are going to flourish some are not. Bill would be a example of that appear to have different philosophies.

Would the calibre of the players returning differ from the players not wanting to come back and play for him?

this seasons team had alot of imports to start off with..There are decent players around the league. But decent ones that want to come and play for brett im not so sure on that, hence why hes had to look overseas to bring in decent players.

I think Brett did bloody well with what he had to work with in his first few seasons where he made the final/playoffs but having to build pretty much a new team each season you have got to wonder why.A number of local players living here went and played for other clubs while they were still living here.

Its just time for a change.Give someone else ago.Get some local players back

The Federation should move the licence to NCR if the are happy to take it over.

The Ipandz NL competition needs the volunteers that club a based team can supply  .

If he's still on a working visa type arrangement, they're required to publicly re-advertise the role, even if there's no real intention of him being replaced

I doubt it, he has been in NZ for quite some time.

I thought the Central federation held the licence on behalf of HBU, hence their staffing and some funding. Has that changed?

I believe that the licence is held by the entity known as Hawke's Bay United. i could be wrong; have been know to be.

licence has never had anything to do with Cental has it? Just the loans they have pumped in controversially.
