This player needs to be snapped up by the Phoenix ASAP before we lose him overseas. best young player to come out of NZ for a long time.....

Probably better if he does by the sounds of it. Phoenix dont have a youth squad yet so is not like he'd get much game time. We really do need a youth squad....

Be someone to keep Costa company. They could watch the A League games together
Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

It is better for him to get game time rather than spend two years on the bench like Costa - totally agree with Jag

I think it would do the kid a world of good to do one season with the Phoenix provided he doesn't want to go to the States University system (Phoenix being a professional team voids his eligibility)
At 16, he gets a year of training with professionals everyday in an environment where he eats, trains and sleeps football. He well might be the boy amongst the men but rather that here than overseas where he would have no support and with his parents up the road in Hamilton, he is unlikely to get homesick as he might say if he was overseas. I think a year in that environment, come out aged 17, trained for a year at a higher level and learn some preparation tricks and how to look after yourself as a footballer would be a great apprenticeship from which to launch a career and succeed

Agreed but we don't have one so....

I think that if he does go to the nix and it should be an absolute must for Herbert to sign him - he should be allowed to play in the National League for Wellington i the summer. Lets fae it - hes too small and not strong or quick enough yet. Sign him up on a 3-4 year deal, get him to train with the Phoenix every day and loan him to Team Wellington for the NZFC.
IMO this is what they should have done with both Draper and Costa this year. Kids have got to have something to look forward to every week - and that comes in the shape of game time. Draper and Costa mustn't enjoy just training.... no player does!
Rojas is the best young player I have seen in a long time... easily NZ's best propect for the future. He needs to be nurtured and taken care of - great player!

If they are loaned to Team Wellington for the NZFC they can't transfer back to the Phoenix if injury or anything else requires it. International transfers, and Professional vs Amateur changes would mean they would be locked in to one or the other.

Yeh fair enough but im sure that the ozzie league could get past that as they dont really pay attention to some of the other transfer rules in the league. i.e. a player can play for as many teams as he wants to in the A league in one season and that doesnt seem to be a problem?
The fact is that the Phoenix need to set up some type of youth team to play regularly or a reserve team to play in the NZFC - for the young players you must admit it is a bit of a joke

Absolutely, but it's a lot of money to be found from somewhere... and transfer rules mean the NZFC isn't particularly practical, it needs to be in the Aus Youth league.

Needs more Youth League.
Marco Rojas is 17 years old and turns 18 November 2009

Does Ricki Herbert even know about Marco.(possibly time to tell him) He trained fully with the chilean u18 side when they were here and the chilean u20 coach has been made aware of his eligibility for chile.

Has Marco not made any rep teams so far?

Two words:
Over-rated

Don't know where you are getting your information from Bluey and I guess you started this topic.
Are you his Uncle or Cousin.
As my previous message reagrding Marco's age. He is too old for the under 17 national team and Colin Tua is no longer the coach. Steve Cain is!

That is why Bluey said WAS wanted for the U-17's... he didn't say the current Under-17s did he ?
Also, you haven't explained why you needed to tell me a fact I already knew in response to my Youth League post.

Bluey said he has yet to make up his mind. Then he has obviously made up his mind already because both those tournaments are long gone!
Is he making up his mind about playing for Chile too ?
Sorry. Was referring to Agent 47 post above yours. Obviously has nothing to do with Youth league post and you did not request a response.
Heard Marco trialled in Germany last year but was injured or sick for a lot of the time he was there?

Hi Bluey. Thanks for the message. I have watched Marco play many times and he has always been a pleasure to watch. He is definately a special player and one to watch in the future.

NZ soccer must get him involved in their set up - he could (for all we know) be the next wynton rufer!

He is easily the best player under 21 that NZhas got at the moment. He has got the most potential in the country. Other youngsters that ar looking good this season are Michael Eager, Tristan Pratley, Michael Pickering.
The main reason he is getting a chance to show his stuff is because he is playing for Waikato... since youve played against him youll know he has got great potenial and in every game appears to stand out.
What do you mean by "i think he played against Waitakere"?

He did nothing against not a great Otago side in the weekend.

It is a big statement to say Marco is the best U21 player in the country. We have all heard big raps on him and I'm sure he will push on in the future. He did not get a chance to impress against Waitakere United but maybe Waikato playing 60 odd minutes with 10 men didn't enhance his oportunities. For me Tim Myers is the most outstanding young player in the NZFC. He is on the team card week in week out and really at no stage has he circumed to pressure and defending against outstanding strikers like Auckland Citys Jordan and Young he has excelled. He has a great tutor in Neil Emblen and he has responded to the call. Tim is only 18.

How about Michael Eager ? Week in week out for Team Wellington since 15 ?

is that the same tim myers that marked milosh nikolioc in the nortern premier league when he got a hattrick?

See Bluey, it's childishness like that that undermines your big-upping of Rojas and makes it sound like you're his mum/brother/boyfriend.
Tim Myers is an excellent player, and a good kid. So is Eagar Mike, although no kid any more. Haven't seen Rojas so can't comment but non-stop sycophantic big-upping of him doesn't really endear him to the public.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Because Auckland has such a large population base and there are two franchises out of Auckland,
Waitakere and Auckland, there are many good younger players that do not get an opportunity to play in the NZFC because of the large number of older players involved including overseas players that come into Auckland taking up all these positions. If you go through both these teams you will see all the imports that come from Spain, South Africa, England , the islands e.t.c. e.t.c.
If you went through both of these teams, you will find most of them were not born in NZ.
It is far easier to get picked up by a franchise outside of Auckland.

If you are looking to compare Myers and Rojas (sorry I can't remember Eager but not to say he's not got some mustard about him) thats just stupid. Different shape of footballer, different style of footballer and different positions. Like comparing Phil Imray to Roy Krishna.. Where do you start
All 3 have obviously got ability to play at this level. Bearing that in mind, they are only teens and are yet to finish growing physically, and mentally as well as maturing. Lets do some measuring once they hit that 22 yo bracket because many players bloom late, and others fade out once they hit early 20s.
An example I'd use and not to disrespect him, would be Stu Hogg going to Hibs at 18. Whats he doing now?
