Solomon Kings domestic players prior to heading to Australia for a two week training camp.

Rafael Lea'i sneaking in at the back there in between the tall timber - to the right of Gordon Iro (the one with the afro).

They have MOU with Wynnum Wolves (QLD NPL) and are in a training camp at Wynnum now. So expect a few more Aussie signings.

Be interesting to see if Lea'i stars at this level. He well could.

I take it these games will be on FIFA + for those of us not in NZ/Oceania?

I really hope some of the marketing improves for this competition. I know many clubs in it are new to professional higher-profile football, but some of the promo efforts have been weak. You can tell which teams invested in social media promotion and which didn't.

Take the squads for example, we're about 12 days out from the start date and still we don't know the complete squads for many of the teams. Having to just guess which national team players made the squads or recognise them from training images isn't good enough. On my assessment only Solomon Kings, Bula, PNG Hekari and South Island United have complete published squads?

There's been a lot of promo from OFC and clubs about having new clubs and what it means etc., but I hope once the initial hype bubbles down we get more consistent promotion and more sophisticated storytelling.

Worth noting most of those Solomon Kings players are off the Central Coast FC facebook (who have done a few announcements), but a couple are just from comments in Rafael Lea'i and Gordon Iro (both pretty confidently identified), alongside Clivert Sam and Martin Koto. 6 players still unnamed.

For those interested I tried to find some names for Tahiti United players in comments on their posts and a few likely names in their squad are
  • Mana Teniau
  • Cedovan Taniel
  • Niuhau Firiapu
  • Kevin Barbe
  • Mathis Lacan

Add Terai Bremond to that Tahiti United list. Full Tahitian international who spent several years in the youth setup at Toulouse over in France.

The ambition is there. Very early days, and crazy to think the comp starts in only 10 days. Will be lots of people putting in some big hours starting this all up from scratch.

Data-driven, digital-first partnerships will play a central role in delivering more impactful and measurable value for partners, OFC say.

Tony Box, managing director, TGI Sport Australia, said: “OFC delivers some of the most exciting and diverse football competitions in the world, and we are thrilled to support their commercial vision across the entire ecosystem.

“From major tournaments to the inaugural OFC Pro League, there is enormous opportunity to create meaningful connections with fans throughout the Pacific.

“Our team is ready to bring innovative, strategic partnership solutions that elevate OFC’s competitions and help drive long-term growth for football in the region.”

Franck Castillo, OFC general secretary, said: “This partnership with TGI Sport is a significant milestone for OFC as we strengthen the commercial foundations of all our competitions and programmes.

“Their global expertise and experience working with major international sports properties will help us unlock new value for the entire OFC portfolio — from elite competitions to our game-changing initiatives like the OFC Pro League.

“Together, we are building a more sustainable, more impactful football ecosystem that will serve our Member Associations and communities for generations.”

Needs more management buzzwords.

Tahiti United have signed Canadian keeper Jackson Gardner from Birkenhead/Bay Olympic. Seems a decent signing, already fluent in French so will have settled it fairly easily.

Another keeper signs for Bula FC - perhaps Matt Foord will just be the backup keeper then. Came through Lens academy and after limited gametime at a few French clubs made the no 1 shirt his own at Luxembourg heavyweights F91 Dudelange

Whilst I'm not expecting the quality of football to be high initially, I'm really excited for kick off next week.

I have a feeling Bula FC might be the team to beat.

Was going to copy and paste, but doing it on my phone I know the formatting would be all up the crapper if I did.

Some interesting names popping up across the squads though, with 39 New Zealand eligible (40 if you include Tade, I didn't) players across the eight teams.

We don't know how good the PNG Brazilians are yet. Defender, mid & striker. Plus the coach. Could be interesting.

And it's already error 404... must have been some mistakes. Or Auckland FC wanted to announce their last signings?

https://www.friendsoffootballnz.com/2026/01/12/south-melbourne-add-to-frontline-options-ahead-of-ofc-pro-league-debut/

South Melbourne have signed Auckland United striker Ishveer Singh and former A-League forward Jordan Swibel for their inaugural OFC Pro League campaign.

Singh (19) has made more than 50 first-team appearances for Auckland United and was the leading goalscorer for Auckland University at last September’s FISU University World Cup in China.

“Ishveer is a young forward with excellent physical presence and a calm approach in front of goal,” South Melbourne’s football director, Peter Kokolis said.

“He has come through a strong environment in New Zealand, and we believe the OFC Pro League is a great platform for him to continue his development and make an impact.”

I will be there. But I prefer buying my ticket at the gate. I hope the gate people don't insist you you choose yr zone, section, aisle, etc. etc. and turn a simple operation into a saga like has happened before when they go all out to organise 15,000 folk according to their "rules" in a 50,000 seater stadium.

I would expect them to show up come the weekend, but for now OFC is continuing to seek other broadcast deals where possible.

All 12 matches for the PNG hub to be played at the one venue in Port Moresby.
Hopefully it doesn't rain.

PNG hub, is the 2nd one after Auckland.

When PNG hosted the FIFA under 20 womens world cup in 2016, they used 4 different stadium in Port Moresby.  I'm sure if there was a problem, one or more of the other 3 could get called into use.

Yeah I give this league 3 seasons, maybe 4/5 if they really wanna push for CWC. Insane how things are already going wrong

Bit much to be making such a call because of incompetence within one club.

I have a few theories, just speculation though.

1 - the federation hasn't supported them well enough and something happened this week that broke the camels back. I remember there was a bit of criticism a month ago about how they were starting training later than other sides!

2 - the players aren't adapting to professional style/attitude/fitness enough and the German GM and coach grew frustrated with this. That 4-3 friendly game with a bad second half relevant perhaps in this aspect.

3 - the federation wants them to play a lot of young players and locals a lot, but the coaches would prefer to max out on the 6 foreigners and only select the best locals from there.
