So what GGW is saying is that calling someone a pom is unacceptable?

Isnt that to do with there heritage?

All depends on what each individual finds offensive I guess

Agree with him on the race thing  thats unacceptable but please dont bring heritage into it!!

And it's all too easy to play the racism card like Temple did.

Interesting that someone in previous post said maybe calling White a muppet might of been a better choice of word than a Monkey, Try telling that to Billy Harris who was accused of racism by Hamilton Wanderers a few years back for calling a player a muppet

The did a Temple and stirred up shit and played the race card

Well, strangely enough, my late father was from Glasgow and he took great exception to be calling a "Pom", or "English so and so", so yes, seeing as you're raising that one, I would say that's unacceptable.

His reaction to that used to be extremely colourful, too, by the way, as an ex British serviceman, boxer and proud Scot.

So yes, that is also to do with his heritage.

A) He wasn't a "Pom"

B) He wasn't English, either.

C) He got wound up about it.

D) Someone got dealt to.

I've seen more than a few dust ups like that in my time, so yeah, don't underestimate the depth of feeling on that one, mate.

On the flip side of that coin, Anti-English racism in Scotland became a hot topic in the media and, in some parts of Scotland, it is a big issue.

You might like to think that in New Zealand the lines have faded somewhat on the distinction, but for a great many other people who make, or have made, this country their home, their culture and their heritage from their previous country is still hugely important to them.

I know the Scots have had a long turbulent history with 'big brother' England and as someone with Scottish roots I've heard a lot of anti-English stuff. But personally I think it's a lot about inferiority complex, like NZers often have towards 'big brother' Oz. I seldom hear English rubbish the Scots or Scotland, unless it's about football or the weather, but I've heard far too much anti-English nonsense from Scots, who can't seem to let it go. They live in London (or NZ) and still bang on about the English. There seems no-one better at hoarding old griefs than the Scots (and the Irish). I remember going up to Sterling in the 90s to see relatives and in the end telling them to just shut up about it and being relieved getting back to London.

0-0 at HT in Ba v ACFC. Ba have been making most of the play, with ACFC not needing to push for the win. No chance of any upset happening today.

Ends 1-0 to ACFC. They march into the final.

Then we repeat the heroics of 2009 and win the first match in Morocco. The blood tingles at the thought.

Think the ACFC facebook account said it's at Mt Smart #2.

I would have thought considering the placings after pool play, it's Waitakere's choice.

Trusts Stadium the obvious venue. So it won't be there.

Yes Trusts would be good. Even Kiwitea Street as ACFC scored more goals qualifying. But please not the Paddock.

According to Kris Shannon in the Herald the O League final is going to be at Mt Smart (I guess number 2) which is good. A really neutral venue with a decent stand. You can put away the gumboots. Should be a cracking game, deserves a big crowd.

The final was always going to be in Auckland no matter who was in it.That was decided back in december.

Maybe next year the final will be in one of the other pacific nations.

Mt Smart #2 3:45pm

I'm assuming there are lights there???

I understand that there is a stand but in terms of a field and a stand, nothing else. No concessions, no changing rooms, no toilets.

I know you guys are no fan of Fred Taylor but this choice would seem to be worse?

Dont they play Auckland Rugby League games there in various comps

So guessing there are some sort of facilities there for the players??

Fred Taylor Paddock is a dump with no spectator facilities at all but was never gonna be played there as a neutral venue was always going to be used

There used to be reasonable dressing sheds on the eastern side, don't know if they're still there. There were sheds up on the number 1 that are a short walk to the 2 ground. Remember the Warriors used to enter Mt Smart via the tunnel from 2. Not unusual around the world to have a reasonable stroll from sheds to ground either.

Oh, great! I might just go to that then, if the trains are running.

Guessing it will be live streamed on OFC TV YouTube channel.

Contemplating a week in Morroco if ACFC get through,

Fly down from London , go up the High Atlas Mountains etc.

A wee matter of a derby first.
