Horner, henderson, deeley, dugdale, jenkins, waggs (keeper), nick grant, lacy, prattely, two other young guys, dave shaw, tommy connor, morgy day, some south american guy called luis (cavy i think), tim dalman, Coburn (but hasn't trained yet), richie (cavy), a few others that i can't remember. Max numbers at one training so far is 18-19 (but last couple have been 14).

there are some guys from chch in talks with malc... thats all I know.

We need some bloody pre season games !

(Dan Benson- ex northern, played for Manawatu today against Phoenix squad he said it was intense)

Perry Groves is Justin  Flaws .So one of my old Soccer Otasgo friends told me. Is that correct.I just hope after all the rubbish thats been posted on here. That young Malcolm comes up with a good squad and the team is competitive. We all want OU to do well, even if we dont agree with whats going on behind the scenes.

Most of you on here don't know you're a*se from your elbow so talking and knowing football is one hell of problem for you.

Here are some cold hard truths for you to ponder:

1. 'Dunedin Tech and Cavy are one of the best teams in the country and therefore = a good Otago United Team'

You are having a laugh the difference between winter football in NZ and NZFC is a big step up (especially from the SPL). You are living in a fantasy land if you think Otago can ever compete with the best 15 players for Auckland, Wellington or most other other teams in the NZFC. Can't put in what god left out for most Otago players which = having a good touch and being able to pass and keep the ball under a little bit of pressure and not chase the ball for 70 mins like a blue ar*e fly!

2. Malcolm Fleming is good for picking up cones at the end of practice. A 45yr old man with frosted tips should not [snip] coach at NZFC level. Fact.

3. Otago is run like a pub team. Always has (going back to D Tech National league days) and always will be a shambles. Always reliant on pokey money (dried up last few yrs due to tightening of charitable trusts) as Chidley and Co couldn't sell ice to the eskimos or half a brain to Horsehead, let alone promote and sell Otago United.

4. Phelan - hot head, chip on his shoulder, speaks before he thinks coach that is actually quite good but expects players to be professionals not amateurs and Otago players to be able to pass the ball 5 times consecutively to each other in practice or in a game. Always get's himself wound up and releases on players at training or in a game aka no man management skills for this amateur environment. Then some players don't like him and his ways - spiral effect.

5. Imports - Phelan can take massive blame for bringing in and overpaying average to poor Imports. With his pedigree and contacts it is embarassing. Noted that it is difficult to get someone to come to Dunedin on less money than they are probably on but track record is rubbish and in a team that is always going to struggle you need your imports to better than you already have - this has never happened and also causes problems within the squad when the sh*te imports are getting 500-800 NZD a week and the other players aren't even getting petrol or boots paid for. The only good imports in recent times (2004 ish) are Lutz, Craig Smith, Orume, Essler and Haggerty.

5. 2010 NZFC outlook on the pitch = not great as has been suggested or the blind 'yay get in behind the lads and support them'...  - as usual for Otago, good team spirit and big tickers will limit the damage in games somewhat but unfortunately it is always going to be tough relying on students staying in Dunedin for the summer, sh*te organisation, crap imports, players that wouldn't make any other starting team in the NZFC (yes this is a fact apart from Canterbury) and
now a seriously limited coac with frosted tip and a silver earing.

I don't want to be the bearer of doom and gloom but these are facts. So stop living in a little fantasy land with goody good gum drops falling from trees and realise that it aint gonna change anytime soon - nothing has changed since the national league days (2001) of Roger Brooks and Neil MacKenzie so....

Feed the pony that is absolutely spot on!

Also i have heard a rumour that one of the grants braes lads is down at the OU trainings and looking sharp - good luck to you Eder!  The good thing is he knows exactly what it is like to loose week in week out with GB so he will fit in very well

Took the bait - brilliant. My rambling was more insightful on the short comings of Otago Football than anything you have talked about with your boyfriends at the Cook after the win of your career over Grant's Braes.

The truth hurts big guy after reading your rubbish football knowledge and opinion on here for a while (based on your 5 completed passes in 4 years in the SPL and watching a couple of NZFC matches) - maybe you should have studied and listened harder to Jacques Vercauteren at Wellington Coll - although you must have done something right after class to make the NZ Sec Schools team.....

Apologies for this rambling.

Out.

Feed the pony about someone spoke the truth about Otago football situation. Yourself and Blair Scoullar could run Otago football the state its in now.

Otago United vs Dunedin Technical U19s this saturday 2pm at Tahuna Park. Witness Otago play there first friendly of the season. Should dominate tech.

Cheers.

Gents, good that people getting stuck in, but try and keep the personal attacks out (some may be jokes between mates that we've missed but I've deleted a couple of things to be on the safe side).  Prefer to avoid any offence

Cheers

id call them more like opinions like everyone is entitled to, whether you agree with them or not great we can have some banter on here over them. If your going to attack people or have your opinions of people put your name to it dont hide behind an alias like a pussy horseshead212009-10-16 08:33:43

After watching Otago today i think they will win the NZFC

Watched the game today. Otago United won 4 -1. Goals were pretty ugly though.

Tech had both Uniteds goalies each half as there keeper was absent.

Quite afew new siginings for United about 4-5 Canterbury players.

But United should still win the NZFC this year.

The Canterbury striker was very solid also .. really good at holding the ball up (albeit against 19yr olds)
Permalink Permalink
over 16 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History
Agreed Stu Kelly was very good, Uniteds midfield looked actually quite strong and their striker dont no his know name wasnt too bad aswel. Horner and Jenkinson are both strong at the back. United are quite weak on the flanks and lack strength and domininance up front.

Tech U19s should go allright up in Napier.

They should have come to ChCh to a real tournament!

Played mid field/up front for Cashmere Wanderers in ChCh Div 1 this season. Played average for most of the year. Not wanted by the Dragons this season, I think you will soon find out why.
Sounds like Ede is still training with the Dragons anyway, you may have missed out on a good striker there.

Ede has signed with Otago Utd so I doubt he is training with the donkeys. The Dunedin football fraternity know what to expect from the aforementioned players so don't think we're resting our hopes on these ChCh players. They all can do a bit and will help Otago get over the top of a few teams this season.
