Here's a couple that slipped the net ......

Caversham players Darren Overton and Jeremy Wild will join the Dragons at the conclusion of their exams at Dunedin University.

Dave Lamont has had to put a ban on yellowfever posting from the Otago Utd office, so one of my old Soccer Otago friends told me.

Is that correct Charlie?

Otago United Squad 2008/09

Goalkeepers: Liam Little  (Caversham) and Callum Flaws (Green Island)

Defenders: Tim Horner, Rhys Henderson and Michael Smith (Caversham),), Tristan Prattley  and Blair Scoullar (Dunedin Technical), Colin Falvey (Mosgiel),

Midfielders: Robbie Deeley and Seamus Ryder (Caversham), Morgan Day and Regan Coldicott (Mosgiel), Tom Connor (Roslyn-Wakari), Stu Kelly (Burnside), Andy Coburn (Dunedin Technical), Barry Gardiner (Southland Spirit), Stu Kelly (Burnside)

Strikers: Dave Dugdale and Tom Jackson (Caversham), Aaron Burgess (Dunedin Tech), Sean Brand (Roslyn-Wakari)

Played: 14 Won: 2 Drew: 2 Lost: 10 For: 16 Against: 32 Points: 8

Otago United Squad 2009/10

Goalkeepers: James Waggitt (Caversham) and Brian Brown (Burnside).

Defenders: Tim Horner, Rhys Henderson and Chris Jenkinson (Caversham), David Shaw (Roslyn-Wakari), Tristan Prattley (Dunedin Technical), Tom Sadd (Cashmere).

Midfielders: Robbie Deeley (Caversham), Morgan Day (Mosgiel), Tom Connor (Roslyn-Wakari), Stu Kelly (Burnside), Andy Coburn (Dunedin Technical), Ryan Faichnie (Woolston Technical).

Strikers: Dave Dugdale (Caversham), Dan Ede (Burnside), James Reichwien (Cashmere).

Also joining the squad will be Under 19 Dunedin Technical team players James Watson and Michael Still.

Comparing 2008/09 Squad to 2009/10 Squad

Goalkeepers: Liam little being a NZ U- 23 player is certainly a huge loss.  Waggitt has been untested this year, but certainly looks very vulnerableWho knows what Brown is like.

Defenders: The loss of Falvey, Scoullar and Smith was the heart of Otago defence last year. They did concede 32 goals but with the new replacements being Shaw, Sadd and Jenkinson I can certainly see them reaching the half century this year.  Shaw and Jenkinson havnt completed 5 passes between them this year in the SPL and both turn like the queen mary, Good luck against Jordan, Krishna etc

Midfield: The midfield has had little change in personal. The loss of Ryder, Gardiner and Coldicott has done minimal damage to the squad. The inclusion of Faichnie is a bonus and is the only improvement from last years squad.  However all the players in the midfield have as much creativity as Mike Fridges haircut.

Strikers: This is a massive problem for Frost tips Fleming. The loss of the two main strikers Burgess and Jackson leaves a gaping hole in the squad. Two journeymen winter club strikers from Canterbury are going to have big fat donuts in the scoring column come the end of the season.

Things dont look good for Otago United this year; they are struggling in all departments of the field. No one to score them at one end and no one to stop them at the other end of the field

Predicted outcome: Played: 14 Won: 1 Drew: 3 Lost: 10 For: 9 Against: 50 Points: 6

Final Position: 8th

This might actually be the best post ive ever seen - its what the 4-4-2 does at the start of every premier league table.  NZ Knights can you please do a write up for the rest of the league that was f*cking gold!  My favorite bit was easily "This is a massive problem for Frost tips Fleming".... absolute gold!

or at least go to the games and please give us all a detailed write up of what happened

Tend to agree with Marco here. Biggest problem you will have is Auckland have already got several games under their belt including a 5 - 1 over Waikato at the weekend. Same situation for us against Waitakere. Good luck anyway, hope you can pull off one massive upset. Looking forward to the local derby.

Their extra match fitness will count so a 2-1 win conceding with 10 to go then hanging on through some masterful tacticaly changes from Malcy the Alcy

3-1 to Otago then. Malcy to come of the bench in the dying minutes a put thunder bolt in the top locker with his trusty left peg. Cue pitch invasion.

"The Otago coach refused to reveal who would train the Christchurch group but added that his silent partner is unlikely to win any red and black popularity contests."

Who is it, John Brown?

Enjoyed the article in the ODT today., apart from the 'lack of support from member clubs' bit.

What do OU expect from the clubs?

The clubs provide the players, including the imports this year.
Not only do they not have any input is alomost impossible to get any information out of them.

Support and loyalty is earnt and should not be expected.

I would suggest that most of Otago Utd's season ticket holders are muppets like me who stump their cash because they know a couple of the lads and don't have anything better to do.

And as a season ticket holder i'm sick of hearing there excuses and blaming everyone when there administration has been a bloody shambles.

Good to hear some positive noises from the players and Malc. Sounds like they want to get stuck in and give it a crack. Can't ask for much more than that.

I'm with you Perry - my thoughts are John Brown as well.  As for the game you never know sometimes guts and determination can say a lot and the guys have a lot to prove only worry will be fitness at the end of the day - I'm thinking 3-2 to United

Perry , John Brown and Neil Davis

John Brown stands to reason, he is at the same club as Kelly, Ede and Brown (Burnside). Former manager of Cant Utd when Danny Halligan was the coach. They train at QE2 park also where Cant Utd are based.

0-0 was a fair result, Auckland had the  better opportunities but were quite poor in their option taking i thought, they need to sign a some decent wide players before the WCC...

Horner & Jenkinson were quality for Otago

Yeah everyone from Otago had a good game, Stu Kelly was good value, Reichwein & Faichnie did well, good all round effort considering the lack of preparation compared to Auckland, Ede wasn't in the squad

So what is the go for this weekend? Will be interesting to see whether there are any changes to the squad. Is Coburn back? Would like to see him back in the mix if he is fit. I hear there is a question mark over young Reece Henderson - apparently a chest injury? Are my sources correct?
