Turned up for the 2nd half, 0-0 at the time...

Otago had a very small back four due to Flavely having being injured in the first half. Otago were under pressure and starting to panic on the ball, especially in Midfield. Wellington were more composed and this starting telling with the attacks. Didn't take long for the score to mount, the first two goals were within a couple of minutes at the most, Otago then started loosing the plot and threw in the towel when they lost the ball in Wellingtons half due to a disputed tackle, stood there complaining and Wellington attacked to make it 3-0.
To give Otago credit I thought they were dead and buried. Phelan made a couple of subs which settled the team down and gave them more width with Gardiner on the left. Wellington also slowed down with the heat and wind. Otago came back with two shots from outside or near the box and it was all on for the last ten..
Bugger me some lanky bugger up front for Wellington dribbles?(he could hqardly run) rounds the left back gets into the box near the goal line, two Otago players plus the Goalie to beat and the left back (already beaten) tackles him from behind. Penalty, Laim Little then saves the penalty by palming it out and no flippin Otago Players are following up, 2nd chance for WU is taken. He was totally within reason to go nuts with his team.
This summed up the lack of composure from Otago. Overall a poor performance against a mid table team.

Though we watched two different games, Agent 47 summed up Otago's play accuratley.

Can't see what any of the other coaches that have been mentioned would bring to the table that Phelan hasn't. Spend less money on a coach and more on some quality imports.
[/QUOTE]

That's why I didn't put Fridge's name in the hat.
The only coach that I think that can be an improvement on what we currently have is Fleming.
Tech made it to the Cup final, but Cavvie were the better footballing team.
Again I am not close enough to know why Terry perserves or if there are other reasons ie contracts.

Inedeed I was there truth.

The overwhelming impression i got when i was on the way home was that in the last 20 minutes Otago showed that they could play football. The reason that they didn't show that early was because i felt they lacked motivation. They only seemed to want to play decent football after wellingtons thrid goal which involved jackson getting chopped down on halfway and them scoring. It seemed there only motivation was to try and some how prove the ref wrong by trying to salvage a draw.

The back four competed well allbeit without falv, althougth prattley, horner (and scoullar when he dropped back after jackson came on for falvey) got caught out of position pushing 1 or 2  too many times.

The midfield and strikers were strange selections

Conner - Deeley - Coburn
  Kelly  -  Scoullar - Burgess

Dugdale, Jackson, Gardner on the bench

Connor looked so far out of place and in general the midfield lacked substance.
Up front not to much to say because they saw none of the ball.

On a sadder note it was disappointing to see three yellows for dissent after the thrid goal and phelan was out of line running 15-20 metres on the field to argue with the ref.

For me connor didnt have a great game at all but looks out of his depth at fullback<thought the back 4 did alright but seem to conceed stupid goals. It was a shame falvey went off in the 1st half because it looked like him horner and henderson had it under control back there apart from a couple shakie moments..Yes i agree i would of had jackson on from the start he caused alot of trouble when he came on but they did have a game that friday and maybe Phelan was looking to get some fresh legs on the field although im not sure who played friday in auckland,It was a terrible call from the ref on the 3rd and was no surprise to see phelan and the hot heads robbie deeley etting carded when he wasn't on the playing field. With only two games to go and waitakeri its not looking great for them but with alot of young guys in there its not looking to bad for the future

Sorry Dino i missed page 1 1st up good work

Jeremy Christie has decided if he cant get another contract with the phoenix he is going to move down to Otago to begin his studies - He doesnt know if he is going to play.  Tech are the likely front runners for his signature during the winter league

They will need him and at least two more if the are going to have a chance of beating Caversham and Roslyn and improving on last year's 3rd place. Also you may no John chisom has left to Auckland leaving a hole bigger than Mike Fridge's barrel at the back.Feedback you might want to see if Emblem and hay are looking for a club otherwise you are in trouble big boy.

Is Christie any good with the gloves? With Tarrent going to Northern I hear Tech are having to look at the possibility of Craig 'Moose' Johnston jumping between the sticks. I understand Jasper is a drunk, squatting on someones couch at least 10kg overweight, and Parkin prob wont make the starting XI due to a confidence shattering summer with HB. Tell me this isn't the case - I thought it was time for the Tech machine to rise again on the back of a solid season last year.

Tech Machine..Hahah come on Kennedy don't make me laugh! No no hot off the press i have heard that Tech have signed the Young keeper from Milk Cup last year not sure his name but he went to Otago Boys and played for Youth team last year maybe Tom?He's a brave young keeper but i dont think that will cut it against the quality of players such a Jackson, dugdale, brand atherton ect..Pitty Tarrent is throwing it away at Northern to piss up. I think Parkin is of the quality to forget about HB asap because they will need him to lead from the front (At the back) this year he could be the key to a solid back 4. As for Jasper it's abit of a waste but what can you do!

I've heard rumors jasper has been playing 7-a-side in Auckland and is following in the footsteps of ross nicolhson.. but he's still got 40kgs shy of that which means he still qualifys for nzfc.

Rumors going round hes signing for queenstown due to uni commitments however iv'e also heard he is on the verge of getting mckenzie and parkin to play alongside him at queenstown.

iv'e been wrong before..

All good players but do Queenstown need another arrogant over rated player in there squad...I think not. This just wont happen,Jasper mayb, parkin and Mckenzie NO WAY!Jasper would have to travel to Dunedin every 2nd week with Qtown anyway so he may aswell just stick with Tech and a play in a good side.

Iv'e been wrong before also..

yeh sorry about the recent post!! im just against big timers in the south!! He chases the money abit like Ross McKenzie and Campbell Parkin!!
Im aware that Jasper has been asking for 300 a game and same with Mckenzie at Tech but both clubs can only offer 299 and they wont take that!!

Detrimental..$300 a game! Come on now really did you mean $30?, I would properly agree with that statement with Parkin I think he will be the linchpin of Dunedin Techs defense this year and if something were to happen to him with chisom already gone they could be in big trouble for there shot at winning the 1st league title in more than 10 years, Mckenzie on the other hand has he ever really done anything good at Tech ?From the games I watched last year he seemed to hide on the big occasions when a national league player of his standard (if he is up to the standard) should take the game by the neck ( As did Coburn with his header against Mirama and all round crushing tackles,Burgess HATRICK,And well the page isnt big enough for the list of what Chisom contributed to those games) and I havent seen him do that yet. Although I havent seen him play for Wellington he does get big raps on yellowfever so he must be doing the right things on the field or hes just paying his $300 match fee back to the right people on on these forums. Did he play against Otago? I cant remember seeing him although he may have been on the bench.

Any news on new signings in Dunedin big 3? Apart from J cristie of course

Christie has signed with Tech , but Draper on the other hand wanted $$$$ and felt that Caversham was the best option as Tech dont pay there players , In fact my source told me that Tech last payed there players back in 2005 when DMC was coach , apart from the odd bit of petrol money Tech has never been in favour of paying there players .
There isn't anybody worthy of being paid to play in this town anyway ??

I wouldnt have thought that a $15 catch a bus would have gone far paying rent ,

Lots of players have been benificaries of money from the Cavy Foundation , for example from another good source inside Cavy , Liam Little last season $$$ sign on fee around 3-5 G , then an extra $$$for clean sheets of around $500 , My mate at the internal affairs might be interested in the Cavy Foundation and there player payments ??

And out of interest, why would you want to alert internal affairs?

To be honest, there are stuff all players imo that are worth cash, however if they can get it, good on them. This game needs as much money going to it as opposed to going to other sports and if a foundation is giving money to footballers as opposed to rugby then I'm in favour of that (note other sports, not community benefits - different issue)

So they are getting it, it doesn't affect you, so why even talk like that...

Its called a forum for a reason dick head , its for discussion nothing other , Im an outside looking in , I've also been on my fare share of committe's around Otago sport and deception is rife in most sports clubs around these parts , ever seen a club get a new fence or maybe the coach gets the new fence , its not exactly what they apply the funds for is it ??

Maybe if the topic's are going to involve Cavy and Tech and any other clubs we should start a different thread for various dicussions , its not really Otago United is it ??

You're right - I apologise from taking it further off topic but I shall end it with this.

Deception is rife everywhere in this world and its not limited to what coach gets a fence in Otago - ask Doug Rollerston. If that offends you enough the say 'Internal Affairs' then you are one sheltered person because there are bigger shams going on in football in New Zealand outside of Otago (let alone outside of football socially in NZ). Thats not an accusation of you personally, just a statement.

NZF can't run any programs or the ones they do run are so tight on purse strings its almost not worth the exercise yet ACFC and Waitakere United get over 1 million from charities to run their club when its clearly going on players wages? 5 other franchises (I'll leave HBU out) are struggling to even get the entrance fee to enter the league. No one goes poking their noses into that sham or cries 'disgrace' yet you are huffing over a fence and other little oddities? Perspective there mate....

If the cash goes into 'football' as opposed to any other sport then I'll take that. I may not like what it gets spent on, but 1 million to ACFC or a fence to a coach in Dunedin is 1 million less to rugby and a happy coach that has a new fence.

Gents, some good debate on the issue of paying players here, get stuck in.  Would be interesting to have some views (and experiences) from some people from outside Wellington.

Not about naming and shaming clubs or any kind of a witch but (hopefully) a constructive debate about whether it is money well spent, what it does/does not achieve and how football could use the money elsewhere.

Ex Hawkes Bay and varsity big man Liam McKinley has moved from varsity to tech - a very good replacement for John Chisolm.  He is better on the ball than Chisolm and is just as effective in the air.  A pairing with Cambel "Mr Soccer" Parkin will be the begining of a great partership between the two.

I think that if Christie signs with tech he can play there too.  It will be a good battle between Christie and Dale to see who picks up the role... with all of the other places on the field takn - christie might not even make the tech startin lineup! feedback2009-02-20 12:50:03

Personally i fell that Campbell "mr soccer" Parkin has the ability to set the Spl alight this year. After a disapointing effort with hawkes bay united this season, (which i fell he didnt get the opportunity he deserved), he is ready and rearing to go. Rumor has it he has layed of the booze and has been training up to three times a day, definitly one to watch this SPL season!!!!
