Question, Why the low turnout for the Nix?

Forget the non-football people. Where was our massive football community? The kids don't care about where the Phoenix are placed on the ladder. You'd have had a difficult job finding a single kid that was there on Sunday that wasn't inspired by seeing top football live. I'm hearing of people in Dunedin watching it on the couch too. Remains to be seen if we'll ever be given another chance again.

Horner is the new Steve Flem.  He just doesn't realise it.  All he needs to do is get his ass down to Roslyn - off the train, on the horse please Timothy.

Tom Jackson will turn up mid-season again and see you right Horner - well enough to finish second or third behind my mighty horse.  And is the word I hear right?  A quality defender from the lesser island is coming to varsity in Dunners and will sign for Horse?

All these comments about Govan and Hancock are good - but if Gov is injured and Hancock unavailable it's all perfectly understandable - and a big shame.  And I heard through the grapevine Matt Joy has availability issues for a few upcoming home games - that may explain why he wasn't picked on Sunday.  Certainly Matt is a candidate for Otago's POTY IMO.  In that regard let's discuss that.  As a wee starter I have tracked player performance using a standard fantasy football scoring system ( I can post it if you want). To keep it sensible only players who've played 450 minutes (ie half the time) so far get a rating.  I've scored players by points per minute otherwise it goes a bit back asswards - the leaders are:

Coldicott: 6.7

Burgess: 5.2

Stevens: 5.1

Da Costa: 4.0

Ryder: 4.0

The trend is interesting because defenders do pretty badly (especially defenders who get CARDS - are you listening you little Scotsman?), whereas a clean nose and a few goals/assists puts you in good stead. But to be honest, we've been horrible in defence. Regan is a bit of an aberration - appearances, plus goals, plus cards plus a grizzly face - he's lucky no points are docked for being ugly.  And well done Burgess - his quality shows in the stats - but he's very lucky kilometers travelled aren't a factor.

Oh yeah it's a quality post:

* NatPevin does NOT live in Aussie - put your mailing address up and I'll MAIL you a postcard

* does NOT drink aussie beer - I drink ALL beer

* is in love with RM - you are confusing me with HORNER

* does NOT follow Roslyn - Well we shall see won't we, because NatPevin will continue to provide the inside word on the mighty horse and the Dunedin football scene in general even though BenJudah has, I understand, now left Dunedin

* lives the beautiful game through his son Jude - I actually have very good inside knowledge that BenJudah was the ONE that started this rumor to wind his old man up

* does NOT have a standard fantasy football scoring system - yeah I do it's the ESPN one and I'm in the top 1% - see http://games.espn.go.com/premier-fantasy/en-GB/frontpage.  Incidently I should have posted my final Otago Utd ratings.  Regan came out on top (so he's my POTY) with Liam overtaking Aaron at the last because of those penalty saves (so maybe he is the PPOTY), and Joel scored well but having him as YPOTY is a no-brainer anyway

* is just another %&#@& Jaffa - Sheesh you sure do know how to insult an DUNEDIN boy

* it was well worth the money having Nat Investigated - Nat's work is computer engineering - there are so many levels of deception with him that no amount of money will find him out.  PEV is a different kettle of fish though - if you lot had any brains you would have figured out who she was long ago.

You know I don't know why I didn't counter that - just overlooked it I guess cos it was a pretty cheap shot.  Butt (haha) in any case I should have said:

Yes, perhaps I should offer to kiss Tom Jackson's (he's the only real quality player Cavvy have now) ass if it would make him transfer to the mighty horse - but having seen the great Mike Cunningham's hairy bum in our 'best in the universe' showers I am spoilt forever - so no, no, no - no Cavvy butt cheeks for me thank you very much.

Someone who knows should say - I dunno, except this forum says in Auckland at 3Kings or Bay Olympic.  They are decent sides so good luck to him cos even though he's made a few mistakes he's been energetic every time I've seen him play. And as I've said several times any half-decent Dunedin player should leave town if they want to improve - like Mike C for example.

The YouthTeam the pride of Otago football you must be fucken joking, and Tony Martin the best coach in Otago i don't think so! I must admit there are some good players in the team, but they are the young guys who don't get any game time. Why not play these young guys instead of these very overated older players. Some of them struggle playing 1st grade.Oh the politics in football eh!

few changes for Canterbury this weekend, with Mepham coming into midfield.

Who should be playing? and who shouldn't?

I haven't had the chance to watch the team play, so I can't comment on who should or who shouldn't be in the team; but I've seen the results and the selections can't be too bad.

You've accused the coaches of playing politics but it sounds like a few kids are upset because they're not getting picked. Well sorry but welcome to the real world. My advice would be harden up or get better so you have to be picked.

Like it Yeovil, I believe that you pick the best 11 players week in week out, and when the bench player gets his/her chance they will take it with both hands and then make it hard for the coach to drop them.

The trouble is this PC bullshit world is that we feel like we should please everybody, well if you don't like it piss off and don't play.

I like Mallon alot as a keeper, but Zane is definitely in a different league to him.
Jesse Smith is too inconsistent for my liking, and can't keep his head screwed on sometimes. Has a solid left peg though.
Cody Brook has alot of potential, but he aint bloody Ronaldo, all he does is hold onto the ball, never passes early, but when he does it works well.
and finally, JACK.. I think Jack definitely deserves more gametime, definitely needs to buff up, and get a new haircut (This aint Geordie Shore lad). I know from talking to a few of the older boys in the team that they think Jack should be getting a crack. He will show his class during the SPL.
Good to see Sammy Mepham coming along to help the boys out for tomorrows game. Will work hard for 90 mins, heaps of talk, perfect player to have in the Canterbury game.
2-0 Otago.

Jack Kirkwood isn't that flash people, remember they have been playing McCormick & Finn Moore is better value than Jack!

I think jack Kirkwood holds the ball up better than both those two. Any of those three lads up front would be hard to keep quiet!! I think Anthony is a lot better than zane! When I watched the braes v cavy game he was unstoppable! At least give the boy the boy a chance. I also believe the other boy from braes is a good solid player! Could play anywhere on the park.
