Impressions of the first goal. Jacob Schneider playing right wing won the ball of his opposite twice in about 30 seconds. Pete Rae combined well with Henrique, who beat his man well and the shot to chip Robinson was all class off the left peg.

First 25 minutes, I see why Rae/Henrique preferred over McCormack/Coldicott. Henrique holding up the ball well, not giving it away easily. Rae running off him well and setting up Henrique in nice areas. Probably my player of the 'first 1/4'.

What a good pickup Nick Hindson was, looks well at home at this level.

 Henry Flood toiling hard in the middle of the park. Certainly not being overrun by Butler et al.

Also playing three at the back with three central midfielders, Day, Ridden and Flood. That is super risky against a team like Waitakerem but it's shut down their passing and they've looked scrappy.

Their goal. Soft. Driven FK from the left. Confusion between Batty and a defender. Deflected and then turned home by Myers at the back post. Soft goal to concede but Waitak deserved one on basis of last 10 or so minutes, 

Clinical from Rae for the second. Looping long ball from henrique. Brian Shelley looks to head it back to Robinson. Piss weak header, Rae intervenes. Pokes it past Robinson, then taps it into an open goal. His pace very noticeable then. Great finish.

Waitakere just missed an absolute sitter. Cardozo had the goal 80% open and hit it straight at Batty who was standing in line with the lefthand post. 

Coombes just hit the bar from 30 yards. Southern clinging on for dear life at this stage. 61 gone

In saying that, they're still creating chances at the other end.

Morgan Day's second yellow was for persistant infringement. Admittedly I wasn't paying overly close attention, but it didn't seem that he committed that many. Great 65 minute shift in any case,

Ridden again from distance. Very very close to embarrassing Robinson from 40+ yards.

From the corner, McCormack won the initial header. Outstanding, and legal, challenge from Higgins on the keeper saw GK fail to control. Wrightwebb turned it home. Robinson complaining but no merit for it,

From about minute 75 til what i expect will be the end, it's been back to the walls defending against an increasingly frantic Waitak. Doing a marvellous job.

Waitakere were poor make no mistake about it, but that was one hell of a performance from Southern. Luiz estatic.

Looking forward to City's away game with SU on Feb 6th. Always like going to Dunedin.

Let's hope southern can go back to back this weekend! Sneak some voddy into the stadium should make for a good afternoon at the footy! Pre season training back up and running! Tech will go back to back and Roslyn will crash to mid table or even lower when they lose half there team for the World Cup. Good luck to the youth team in South Island derby! Maroon roost out!

The result had Nowt to do with a game plan cause the coach hadn't one before the players took to the pitch.

I likie the SU teamie talkie before last weeks game! twas all about vhat vas sadie by the players on the pitch before kick off.

Hats off boys for reading the state of play and doing exactly what you set out to do. 

Play the game in the other teams half and hit balls in to the corners for the strikers to work at getting on the end off.

Well worth spending the two hours watching the game on Monday night tele.

So come on the SU players give yourselves the same sort of pre game talk to get another 3 points this weekend.

Forget the 5 year plan of playing keeep ball and not getting a result the fans want results first and ticky tacky after that.

Dumb coaching again, 3 subs in first 54 minutes don't know what team to put out so will do what juniors do and give half a game to all.
