Will be between Coastal, Chch United and South City Royals IMO. But maybe keep an eye on Selwyn and Green Island as well who are on very good form.

Fixtures now up and due to get underway this weekend! What's everyones prediction?

IMO Cashmere and Chch Utd make the National League with Coastal running it close with the latter, Royals and Suburbs and Selwyn in the middle of the pack with maybe GI and Uni at the latter end. But really close expect everybody will win at least one maybe even at least two games.

The whole justification for South City Royals was, I assume, the two best clubs in Dunners joining forces to be a real force at National level. Given that, I'm really holding out until they play Cashmere or Coastal to see how this league is going to shape up. If they don't make the National round will there be pressure on the merger?

I don't think so, winning the Southern Premiership is already a good sign for the future of the club. National League is the goal for sure but there's respect for how difficult the Mainland teams will be to beat and there isn't any short-term pressure for immediate success.

In terms of competing at the National League level , the Royals have a 3-5 year plan for this to come to fruition , Stage 1 merge the 2 teams and create a team environment which will competitive , Stage 2 win the Southern Premiership , Stage 3 Qualify and compete in the South Island League and continue to grow and develop players for that level of football , Stage 4 Consistently be in the top 3-4 and earn the right to play National League.

I'm looking forward to this weekend, and hope the mighty Coastal Spirit can make it through to the national league. Cashmere Tech must be the favourites to take the number one spot, with having pretty much the entire Canterbury United team on the books. They even got the 2 Coastal players that played for CU last year!

So it will be a real dogfight for the 2nd spot, and because it's a one round shoot-out, any dropped points in any round could be a killer. So we will need to be careful of our banana-skins of Selwyn and Nomads. Oh, just Selwyn then.

We have a vanload of people travelling to Dunedin for the South City Royals game at the end of August, and would really appreciate an accurate draw in the very near future too!

One or another of the partner clubs generally won the SPL anyway, though. I see the merger isn't a thing yet in the women's game, which surprised me - a similar merger to form Auckland United started at the top level in both men's and women's forms.

Well no - The Auckland United "merger" was more of a talent acquisition from Three Kings who changed their name in the process.

Is there any other club teams in the country that has pretty much the entire national league team on their books? I know Central Utd turned into Auckland City but did they keep all the players? What happened in Wellington?

From what I know, Miramar and Olympic took most of the Team Welly players, hence their position on the table. Also likely that a sizeable chunk from HBU now with NCR but you'd have to verify that tbh. And ESFC and Hamilton wanderers still around and seem to have kept most of their players? Again, you'd have to check.

Anyone see the Selwyn - Chch United game? Sounded like a cracker! Big result there especially considering it's only a 7 game thing. Selwyn maybe a dark horse to slip into second and make the National League? None of the Dunedin sides looking likely so far unfortunately.

Some good clashes all over, important games in different parts of the table.
Cashmere 2-0 agreed
Royals were much improved last week, can see a 2-1 away win
Selwyn on form and Mainland are a step above, 3-1 win
Suburbs are average but Christchurch Utd gone inconsistent... 2-2 draw. But maybe home advantage tilts it.
