Zephyr, Orpewise :

Maybe you two are jinxed for the home team, not TW? Perhaps you should come up to the match against YHM in Manawatu...in the interest of science of course.

strange sort of game where most goals came after the ref's whistle - free kicks and a penalty.

The little Brazilian got pushed off the ball a lot - seemed to suffer the same fate as George, so no telling how skilful he could be

And those 3 big Waitak players - are they full-time night club bouncers moon-lighting as footballers? Scary.

DomPOst writeup - http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominionpost/4335627a6033.html

"I'm not going to shy away from it - the scoreline doesn't paint a pleasant picture.

"We weren't good enough today but we did create a lot of chances.

"We played poorly but we are a good team and we'll bounce back from this," Jacobs said.

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Looks like City are top again at xmas, farmiliar trend that. Also we are the last team unbeaten, a not so farmiliar trend.

Three for me, and two for them.

5-1 is a thrashing in any sense. I have read all the reports this morning and everyone is talking about old-fashioned football. surely it is about putting out a team and a tactic to win against the opposition. Milicich has said their tactics were about overloading the back 4 of Wellington - seems to me that worked pretty well considering they scored 5 goals.

I know Waitakere work on set-pieces at least twice a week and everytime I have watched them they look very dangerous at set-pieces. How many of their goals this year have come from set-pieces.

NZ Football has sent sides out to play in world cups that get hammered by 5,6 and 7 goals trying to play a style that doesnt suit them or generates results. We have to be careful in this country that we don't try and play other teams at what they are good at. Surely we need to minimise what they can do and try and score goals in a manner that they don't like.

I wasnt at the game yesterday so can't comment on either teams tactics or lack thereof but Waitakere do seem to be scoring a lot of goals lately.
