Pretty decent website there guys, definitely a lot better then the old site.

I presume your aware of it Raffy but some of the adverts on the right of the screen obscure the text on the news pages and some articles read down like an awkward newsprint article, but still defiantly a far better looking site then the old one and...

Waikato 3 Watak 1, get in.   I have a good feeling abouth this season.

Also Raffy, after you look at a player profile, when you try to go back it takes you back two levels so you can't just move on to the next player.

Also, will you be filling out the player profiles a bit ?  Would be good to have birthdates, heights, weights, player history and things on them.

Thanks for the feedback news.

I'm not sure if we can fix the jump back as it is a Joomla application it is jumping out of but I will have a word with our web designer.

I am in the process of designing a template now for the player profiles but I am not sure what direction to take whether we have them with the standard "fav player, clubs, meal ,best advice" which is probably a little worn or whether we go for more of a feature article on each player or a slightly censored in their own words....

When I went through the same exercise as the writer of the Hamilton Wanderers programme some years back I got some really mundane answers and then I got some brilliant ones for instance one player said his nicknames were Wilkadino and God and that his career achievements we winning the Weir Rosebowl and being named the fifa world player of the year.

Having said that kids will also visit so it's a balancing act. What do you think?

I'm biased in that what I want is raw information to make my life easier doing Research for Football Manager, which is back to more specific positions, which foot they use, DoB, height, weight, place of birth.  Representative info is also interesting (and make it easier to talk up your players histories).

Beyond that something light-hearted is good but it's easy to cross the line between funny and embarassing... and in-jokes can be a bit tiresome (we know this because we created the Fever and Park Life on them).

Oh, I wonder who that player could have been ?

You could have a point particularly with the in-jokes. Either way just let me know what you need for FM and I can try and I can probably organise it.

News, think we have fixed the problem with being able to look through the team list and click on players (still working on most of the profiles) also added some more new features that will be developed as we go

Neither club has considered it important enough to mention on their wesbites, but I understand Waikato and Hawke's Bay drew 1-1 on Sunday, and there may be folk out there interested in this sort of thing, seeing as the season is just about upon us.

The game was in Taupo. I wasn't there.

if the bush telegraph can be believed, Joe Simpkins scored from the spot for waikato after dan Peat was brought down.

Thats what I heard too? Times says that HB also scored from the spot?
Funny to see the headline that Waikato are underdone... funny excuse since the team has had a much bigger pre-season, with at least 4 matches compared to the none of last season? MrWaikato2009-10-19 13:33:26

Absolutely right Bruce. Enquiring minds do want to know. I didn't travel with the team either so unfortunately can't add much more except to say that according to my source the penalty Joey took was a screamer.

I have only returned from a series of meetings this morning to find our website is "back." We had a few teething issues this weekend that made it go a little psychadelic but I am told those responsible have been "taken care of."

Anyway before the end of the day depending on his schedule a match report / preview/ blog may be posted by the head coach himself. The first of what I am sure will be a weekly event.

There is of course the option for your unique if only occasional view from the stands Bruce. If your interested I am more than happy to create a Holloway senior posting page with the standard "Bruce's views are his own..." disclaimer.

Although I see you and news have yet to sign up for the site and the eventual Newsletter / preview.

Question: The team is named "Yardhouse" Waikato according to the list of teams, but why is there no mention of who/what Yardhouse is anywhere obvious (at least that I can find, like on the Sponsor's link!?) on the site? One is just supposed to know? I'd never heard of them before, so now because of the use of the name I have looked them up, but I didn't find out anything on the WFC site! Is that the way advertising is supposed to work?  I guess it must be effective then! lol

Yardhouse is a new bar in the hamilton suburb of Nawton, used to be Grandview Sports Bar. It's a bar that pays homage to the yardglass and specialises in chicken wings, for those looking for ironic symbolism.

Owned by the Phoenix group, which runs about 5 other hamilton bars.

Raffy, have to decline on the kind offer, doesn't work when you have family in the team. Looks a bit incestuous.

However I will sort out a season ticket order in the next coupla days.

Hey people, did you know the NZFC starts in a coupla days?

Is there anybody out there? Is the landscape so barren these days that nobody gives a stuff any more?

Or is it about time for a few people to talk up title prospects with a bit of parochial banter?

Waikato have come thru their best pre-season since the club was formed, going unbeaten. But they have a tough job away to Auckland first-up on Sunday, and with player-coach and defensive kingpin Che Bunce injured.

Waikato have had a real turnover of personnel from last season, with just Shaun van Rooyen, Joel Mathews, Steven Holloway, Paul Stewart, Alex barlow and Joe Simpkins back on deck from last season.

For all that, they've got a lot of former players back in the fold, such as  David Samson, Michael Gwyther, Bunce, Sam Wilkinson, etc, and may gets the final miles out of former Aldershot pro Jason Chewins, now based in cambridge.

Dan Peat looks a useful signing, while Samson's return from a summer off may see mathews shunted to the other fullback role.

Tough baptism for the Bunce era, away to Auckland. But who knows, it is a game of fine margins.

I'm presuming it is Glynn taylor.

I bumped into Glynn the other month when i gave my submission to the competitions review panel.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered glynn was one of the panel members.

Nothing against Glynn, it just struck me as completely wrong to have an employee of the game, and one whose job  may very well have been a point of debate in submissions, to be  among those receiving submissions, and presumably deciding on his own future.

The words "interest" and "conflict of" came to mind.

Still, on the other hand, given the crazies on my federation were submitting for the NZFC to become an under 23 competition, maybe it was all for the best.

The under 23 suggestion (from a local club) came up at the review meeting here in ChCh as well. Couldn't believe it when I heard it. Between that and NZ Footballs idea of shelving the National age group inter Federation tournament it made me realise the loonies are running the nut house still.
The NZFC is a bit of a joke to be honest and fails to attract any attention, definitely in need of a revamp/restructure. Will be interesting to see what NZF comes up with. I would also be interested to see what other regions had to say on it.
As for team prospects this year it is hard to say who the winners and losers will be as there has been such a high turnover of players in almost all teams, but I think it will be tighter than the past 2 years with most of the bottom teams fielding stronger sides. I am hopeful the mighty Dragons will once again breathe fire and at least make the playoffs!

I am, generally speaking, a youth development nutcase.  But the country must have a flagship mens' competition.  It's an absolute no-brainer.  Stick to the format, make it work.

In an off-topic aside: I can see fair argument for not bothering with the inter-Federation youth tournament.  A shame, yes, but serves no real purpose and costs a whole sh1tload of money both for NZF and the kids.

I agree Smithy on the NZFC as being the flagship of our game and that was my beef with turning it into an Under 23 (or any other restriction) league. It must contain the best players from all regions. Problem is a lot of the players haven't bought into it (3 years ago Ben Sigmund was playing Rugby to escape from the year round Football sycle).
Regarding the National tournament Michael Glading put a figure of $900.000 on it when he was here. Mostly funded by Perry Foundation and it was the loss of this funding that was the biggest threat to the tournament. My belief is that the benefit is mainly for us (Mainland) in that it is the once a year opportunity we have to test ourselves against decent opposition in terms of our player and coach development. In the North Island you guys get to do that on a more regular basis give the resonable proximity of the 5 Federations up your way.
Also allows national age group selectors to view prospective international reps all in one place. Surely that is cost effective? Difficult to see how else this could be achieved?
Must try harder

Yep theres no way NZF or FNZ  or whoever they are these days will let go of the organisation of the NZFC...its their ticket to the soiree...."oh yes and we run a national competition..."of course the terms ,..."really badly" never get mentioned in the same breath...noticeable that this year the NZFs major consideration was ...If anyone quits we have a team to replace them...not ..WHY is the team quitting!!!!!!.... ahhh its enough to turn you to drink ...fortunately I was facing that way already...see you sunday Mr H , for an interesting day I hope..(we'll still win tho...)

Too many!!! Not enough by the looks of this result! 5-0, had hoped from last season's development the days of 5-0 losses were over for Waikato!!!

Losing the likes of Graham Pearce, Nathan Strom, Joel Mathews, Craig Wylie was a disaster!!!

Come on WFC bounce back and beat the very poor HBU next week please.

Agree with Cnut - Waikato supporters shouldn't get too depressed at scoreline. 2-0 at halftime was daylight robbery - Waikato had all the best chances and unlucky not to be at least level. Then it turned to custard in the second half.
