Well, I waited through every sport imaginable to see the goals from the game as I had listened to the game on the radio. To my disgust they failed to even mention that the game had happened, not even "Team Wellington beat Aucland 4-3 to go into the fianl of the NZFC) WHat the hell is NZ Journalism dinng....it was on Sky 3 for f**ks sakes!!! WHere was the report.....

TV 3 are normally much better than TV1 when it comes to NZ football, perhaps they drew 0-0 on this one

likewise, i sat through the sports news item by item, patiently waiting for something on a 4-3 thriller (as i was playing during the match itself). absolutely gutted with tv3, who as tigers says, are usually pretty good (at least relative to their cross town rivals). No excuse whatsoever given the game was on sky.

Gourdie, we have come to expect more from you guys. hoping for a massive improvement come next sunday.

interesting point re the geographical location of both newsrooms ML, perhaps the result wasn't what the sports journos were expecting or hoping for

yeah I thought the same ting, but journalists shoudnt have bias like this. I cant belive they had swimming and Shane Cameron's boxinng beating an american nobody istead of a genuine final game in a nz championship that was live on sky, pretty average TV 3 shame on you

the good old boys at nz football haven't got anything about tv coverage on their website.  they haven't even got the result up!

I agree it should have got coverage but is anyone really suprised? There was quite a bit of sport on though.

I suppose when it comes down to it, the NZFC is an amatuer league. So of course the national league will give coverage of the nix and the a-league, but tend to ignore the NZFC. Not surprising, and when you think of it like that, you cant really blame them maybe? As annoying as it is, and as much as we want coverage of football, they only have 10-15mins of timeslot and will concentrate that on proffessional sports...

The NBL being a proffesional basketball league doesnt even get much coverage (if at all) so how can we expect the NZFC to get some.

thank god we do have the phoenix or there would not be any NZ football on TV.

as much as it disappoints me, it does not surprise me that NZFC league matches never get a mention on telly. But, this was a prelim final - one of two 'finals' matches in the entire season of the major domestic competition for our highest participation sport. plus, it was a bloody entertaining game that went to extra time and featured 7 goals. tv3 did cover the Chatham Cup final reasonably well last year - so that had also raised my expectations perhaps.

we shouldnt tolerate it just bc we have come to expect it. its not good enough.

i do suspect tv3 will do a preview of the final on monday (prob tuesday when they are lightest for sports news) and use footage from sunday's game then.

i am still buring about coverage of last year's NZFC final by tv1 - didnt find any time for one of the five goals, but did manage to have a cheap dig at the game by showing the red card tackle on Van Steeden.

let's just hope that, at the very least, both networks give the final a decent run.

Really ?  I'd never heard you try and make that laboured point before... I had no idea you thought that.

Incidentally, you never responded when asked if you were a Warriors fan.

This could turn into a very very familiar argument. We really dont want to go there again.

TW 4 ACFC 3

Onwards to the final!

Am sure the news will have more coverage of the final, especially if we win!

God knows who i'm gonna support in the final.

Three for me, and two for them.

Well, a waitakere win gets you into the O-League which would be your best chance at revenge?

Champs of oceania > NZFC champs

So you will just have to grit your teeth and hope that (not support!) waitakere win.

I think you summed it up best there Tegal. However i would not begrudge Welly their place in the O-League in any way should they win on Sunday.

I reckon you'll turn up, see Rex and Danny Hay and all realism will flow out of you...

Never saw the warriors question and no i dont support the warriors but have been to the odd game
am not a big league fan
and the point i was making is that the Phoenix play in the A-League bit of a clue as to what country that is? so therefore the TV coverage is of Australian football and the A-League not NZFC or Chatham

Do you see the Warriors as the same as the Phoenix ?  Hurting New Zealand League ?  Are they the reason the Bartercard cup died ?

...and for the 6 millionth time, what proof do you have that no Phoenix would suddenly give the domestic game headlines coverage when it never had it prior to the Kingz ?

None.

We know your point, we've debated it and you just spout your mantra.  You know, if you put it in your signature it will save you the energy of re-typing it Ad-Nauseum.

I have to ask a frank question but is there anyone involved in football that actually has anytime or respect for Dewhurst? I'm not trying to bag the guy just never heard anyone actually say anything nice about the guy or say that they have time for him or respect his opinion yet he is supposed to be a media guru on all things NZ Football

Yes, i respect the guy's ability. I think he has added to the fabric of our game, even if mostly as a hired gun, there to fulfil a specific role.

Regarding Dewhurst - he's probably a good journalist.

What has irritated me over the years is that he has never made it clear when commenting on football that he was employed by New Zealand Socceer (when he was an apologist for the NZFC) or as now , Waitakere.
Integrity becomes a big issue.

Sorry Bruce can't agree with you on this one.
How can anyone respect the lap dog or hired gun as you call him? Can Rex not speak for himself or does he feel his views receive more credibility if given by a media spokesman. Those secret little hand signals have become quite funny.

I'd love to listen to a real football radio show. Gave up on Dewhurst's Sunday nights infomercial embarrassment months ago.

The only man I ever heard on the radio who did justice to football was Devlin - and he was a Manure supporter, nontheless he knows his football and was passionate about Wellington too.

Queenslander 3x a year.

Yes, he has a specific job to do, in publicising the events/issues that his club is active in.

I think he's done so very effectively. He wears several hats, which can create conflict in the minds of readers/listeners...

But I still think the bottom line is, while such an approach has its own structural problems, we are better off with him than without him.

While he has his own axes to grind, he's articulate, informed about the game, and proactive. I can live with that.
