It is excellent that anyone other than Fallon will be coaching Waikato FC

Get the feeling the piecemeal waikato side that will be in force may take a lot out of the waikato winter northern league sides, wanderers, melville and ngaruawahia. The players will be backing up for three seasons which will make it a bit tough to motivate for winter league esepcially for the wanderers and melville sides, for whom the premier league next year, at the time of writing is only 18 games. Not long if your players are all wanting a break after summer league i guess!!

You could be right, fc. Especially when we make the playoffs and extend the season.

This just posted on Waikato Times / Stuff... Dave Edmondson takes training...

This might answer some of F Cs question

From Waikato Times

Among those training was Onehunga Sports goalkeeper Jason Mann, one of a number of Aucklanders prepared to travel to the Waikato at their own cost.

The Times understands other Aucklanders possibly still interested in playing for Waikato without reimbursement could include former All White Graham Pearce, Olympic All White Sean Van Rooyen and former age-group national representatives Sam Mathews, Joel Mathews and Prince Qansah.

Methinks if I was in charge, Edenkingz, you'd welcome Kevin back with open arms.

It has been breath taking to see Waikato FC make a saving of over$100.000 dollars in its budget. A budget that has never been seen by its supporters at a AGM in over 4 years.
The sacking of a coach 3 weeks out from the season, seems a little far fetched in that the board and its general manager did not forsee a budget deficit that could not be serviced for the up coming season.
Granted there was a change in the general managers position in May and the putting together of a football budget for the 2008-9 season has proven to be a most arduous and complicated process, (by way of press releases , via the waikato times threw the WFC Board and General Manager).
But here we are in reality and the aceptence that but for the grace of god, we would not have a team from waikato.
It has taken myself and a excecative commitee of one, who responds to the name of tigger a mere 15 minutes to come up a a further cost cutting plan to enable waikato to go to new hieghts in demonstrating best practice- football budget plannning. saving $40-000 grand in one quick and painless stroke for the good of waikato FC.
Replace the General Manager with a volenteer manager.
So there you have it $140.000 grand saved in 7 days.
Well i,m off to save the world, working on a plan to find that missing 7 trillion dollars. maybe its hiding in the Waikato Stadium, with the rest of our 100 supporters from Gods land.

They're calling it Waikato-wahia on the Melville site. A reference to being based at Ngaruawahia.

Not a bad squad Waikato have produced with the limited (zero) player budget they have got.  I like the looks of Holloway and Strom in there... they must be the teams two potential stars I would have thought

Eddie Trubshoe from Melville has been mooted as back up. Looks like Melville will struggle for a team next winter if this team gets in the top 4......
Still 4 players to come in after one final trial this weekend

Don't remeber them being called Waikatoanderers when based at Porritt, with Wanderers coaching staff, and a push for youth players in particular to sign for Wanderers.

Good on ya Narra's for helping out.

Good also to see their website is updated and looking a little more polished than last years.

I checked out the website and it had photos from last nights training.
1 pic stood out for me. It was the one with all the players. They were facing Edmondson and Joel Matthews. Dare I say Matthews has been picked as the captain?

Why have Waikato moved north to play?

I just hope the boys do my home town (Ngaruawahia) proud, and the Waikato as a whole, and that some of the twats that have always caused a rift in Waikato footie from clubs like Wanderers and Melville bury their hatchets for the time being.

Graham Pearce is the obvious captain.

I hope they do well, but I think we have to be realistic. This is the weakest Waikato (Waikato Fc, Waikato United, Hamilton AFC) national league squad i can recall. Lack of pace at the back, lack of a playmaker/creative infludence in midfield, vacancy at left back, thin up front, and general inexperience, lack of time together, match practice etc. Still there are a few opportunities there for someone to prove me wrong.

I understand Waikato are playing waitakere in Auckland on wednesday night.

Disco Mart, the problem in the waikato is not people having an axe to grind -- but that so many people simply don't give a stuff about the NZFC.

Wherever people care about something, you will get the odd differences of opinion, it goes with football territory. The real problem is when people stop caring.

But you hardly set the tone for group hugs when you characterise the few who do care from melville and wanderers as "twats". if you're not prepared to put your name to a post, don't go insulting others.

I thought they signed Ben Hunt?  There's your left back spot sorted.  That lad is class - until he goes off to College anyway.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Hunt made no impression on me at all in their game the other day.

Not fast enough, strong enough, or accurate enough with his passing. Couldn't get forward, didn't impose himself, failed to affect the game. The left side as a whole was pretty dysfunctional. Rang alarm bells with me.

In previous years waikato have had the likes of LJ Pijnenburg, Stu Watene, Aaron Scott, Matt Friel and Hone Fowler at left back. Paul Stewart (who played in midfield form melville) looks the best option at the moment, having played there a bit last summer.

Incidentally, i understand tonight's Waikato-Waitakere match which was due to have been played at Bill McKinlay park has been cancelleed.

My spies tell me Waitakere felt Waikato should pick up the tab for the match as they were the ones who had arranged it -- and Waikato couldn't afford the $300.

Sort of sums up where both outfits are at....

Incidentally, at $5 a head you'd only need 61 paying spectators and you'd be ahead of the game.

What a complete load of rubbish from Waitakere.

I have a hard time figuring out why Waikato should foot the bill seeing as they have to foot the travel bill. Its called 50-50 and serves a purpose to both teams

Waitakere just wanted their piece of cake and then the rest of it too.

Waikato have put a proposition forward to the NZFC asking if they can perform a haka before every home game.  The haka was initially a joke thrown around the changing rooms, however the boys have now decided they actually want to do it.. feedback2008-11-05 16:37:27

The funny thing I have to ask is why would they do a haka? Its not like they are tribal or even native to Waikato (in some cases) Do they leave their shirts on? You'd have to agreement from both teams as well as the referee wouldn't you? If one team can do it, does the other have a right of response ala in Braveheart and mooning the oppostition?

To be culturally senstive in my response, it serves no purpose.

If WAIKATO do a haka, they deserve to be chucked out of the league for simply being 'Dickheads'.What a joke. What a bunch of t**sers . Put it back in your trousers whoever is responsible for such a  STUPID idea.
 Goodness gracious..

Iv'e heard from a source at waikato that there was alot of tention between Stuart Hogg (waikato) and Matt Williams (Aucklnad city) during the game on the weekend. apparently Williams woudln't shake Hogg's hand before the game then attemted to start a fight with Hogg after the final whistle. Had to be broken up by Edmonson and Maine.. any viewers???

Based on the reputation of the two players involved, FC's seems to be the most likely report.

Yeah Stu has been a model player and a winner at every team he has played at. Which is why NZFC clubs try to sign him for 3 year deals so he wont leave every year......

Another Hogg headcase.....

agree on Williams our surprise package of this seasonette...disagree on yr assessment of the hoggs...particularly when you know that the waikato boys are getting FA for their trouble...

I personally was quite surprised to see Matt Williams to get the starting nod but to his credit, he has filled that role very well and has done alot of the dirty work for ACFC.

Stu is a better footballer than Ian but both are headcases. Stu starting a fight after the whistle?? How long till Ian gets sent off for a terrible tackle.

Players like that are called coach killers.
