Folks, we don't have many rules here, but a simple one is to look for a thread on a subject.

There are 3 or 4 topics to do with Waikato already, please maintain the discussion in these threads rather than starting a new one each day.

Cheers.

God this Waikato bitching and pettiness is boring!
Anyone ever got anything interesting to say?

"Rumour has it ther training is poor" I mean come on, what kind of a comment is that? People who post such bullsh*t shouldn't have the right to express their insignificant opinions.

"Rumour has it Team Wellingtons training is good"  I mean, I thought a forum was to post opinions of interest and gain interesting feedback from anyone who cares to reply, not just post sh*t like the above which to me reads as nothing more than a pathetic comment with no depth.

In future Mr utd07 (good name by the way) why not make your posting worth reading by backing it up with some details. The reasons its poor might be a good start, thus creating a decent thread on trainings, not just "rumour has it ther poor". That way you will get a response worth reading not the constant childish crap that usually follows a Waikato thread.

End of.

To be fair, it's not "Waikato" bitching as such.

Certainly we have our quota of dickheads in the Waikato, but Mr utd07 would appear to be an Auckland fan, judging by his previous posts.

Let's recognise it for what it is... unsubstantiated Auckland bitching. Thank you.

Good point Bruce,
I just get fustrated with poor posts that potentially could form interesting debates, and discussions.
I wish there were more posts that spark quality responses, as it is more interesting to read peoples footballing opinions than to read childish 'poor' banter that seems to follow the Waikato threads. In my opinion of course.

okay, let's try and make somethgin of this then...

I went down and watched Waikato train on Saturday. (yes, they train sat mornings as well).

They concentrated on small-sided skills, keeping possession in tightly confined spaces, usually with an overflow situation, where one team had at least one extra man.

I went down specially to have a look at Matt Friel, a lad who is out from new jersey and checking out waikato (which signing for won't now be a possiblity until the transfer window opens in Feb). He had arrived in Auckland at 7.15am that morning. He looked very tidy, and hopefully for waikato's sake he will agree to stay.

After a lengthy spell at that waikato worked on a throw-in set play - taken by assistant coach Mark Cossey - that I could see the bare bones of in Joe simpkins goal on Sunday.

it was a good workout in hot conditions, attended by about 12 of waikato's squad, with the Auckland contingent not present and nathanh Holten and dave samson nursing injuries. Boomer Kotchin also participated, as did paul Stewart, back from injury.

I saw nothing which would indicate anything was poor, apart from perhaps the porritt training surface. Hope this helps. waikato train on Tuesdays and Thursdays as well, with a Wednesday session for those based in Hamilton.

Now thats of interest!

Primary evidence on a training session at Waikato FC. Good stuff!

Interesting that Waikato train 4 times a week. I wonder if all the franchises train so frequently?
I also wonder how much NZFC sides work on set-pieces as I recall an interview with an English premier league player from Birmingham City who's name escapes me right now, who said set pieces were a huge part of their weekly training inparticular the day before the game, where corners and freekicks were practiced over and over, the manager (Steve Bruce at the time) believed that they were a vital part of his sides game and gaining results.

From the NZFC games I have seen so far, not many goals (if any) goals have been scored from corner kicks.

to be honest im a waitakere supporter, but feel they are not performing to the standard they can be, and i have talked to friends of the waikato players, saying they are not enjoying the trainings, is all ive heard, not sure if ther is truth to it, but this is a forum is it not, wher we can post comments and opinions?

i wouldnt enjoy trainings if I was an auckland player and had to commute to hamilton 3 or 4 times a week. especially when you are getting paid small win bonuses!

Matt Friel is having a look. He is considering moving for good if he can make it work with a bit of junior coaching work and stuff. If that should eventuate, I would expect him to sign for Melville over winter.

Other sources have told me that matt is pro wanderers. why blame him? have you heard what they do at melville trainings? they play wall passes off of tracker trailer tyres and practice bicycle kicks. the incompetent threesome of kit fagan steve williams and howie (not important enough to remember his last name), lead a training session not suitable for a players in wheelchairs let alone a team newly promoted to the northern premier league.

I understand Friel is visiting as the guest of a melville player. Very hard to see him ending up at Wanderers in the circumstances.

I can't let the attack on the Melville coaches pass without response. Melville coach Steve Williams fulfilled his season brief to gain the club promotion in 2007. He ran a successful team and a happy team. He has previously won second division, first divsion and northern premier league titles as coach, so his track record is sound. He was assisted in 2007 by Kit Fagan and Jeremy Ollington. Mark Youngjohns was, for a short period, director of coaching, also taking specific first team and reserve team sessions.

Howie was a Waikato rep as a youngster (Mark Cossey's era). he had a long northern league career with Cambridge (when they were a strong team), in younger days with Hamilton and Claudelands. Coaching-wise, from memory he has assisted with Huntly Thistle, Ngaruawahia and Cambridge. He has taken the Melville reserve team for the past two years. In 1999 he was asst coach to Mark Youngjohns in the North Island league.

Prior to joining Melville in his current spell, he was assistant to jeff Coulshed at Ngaruawahia. he has also taken women's teams at several clubs. I understand he has a level 2 coachig badge.

He's a good club man. Over the summer he is donating his labour in renovating the kitchen at Gower park.

Hope this helps.
