Looks like the Chinese side finished midtable in the Chinese Super League and their final day draw with Shanghai Shenhua denied them the title - so looks like they're no mugs.

trying to get this back on topic, I'm pleased to see Sykes mentioned in the reports of the match, as this will give us a chance to play a back 4 with a left footed player at left back (Scott played there against Port Vila, but looked completely out of place and Hogg's away with the U20's) - we have been playing 3 at the back in the last couple of games, but I really think we'll be harder to break down with 4 across the back.

Yeah, so well how did the chinese clubs go in the ACL?

Their super league isn't crash hot because of corruption and Shanghai Shenhua is usually the better team so they lucky to get a draw on the last day. But Chinese football style is not like Australian football style, and that is what they are up against in the first game that matters. If they were able to get a couple of A-league teams as well as a couple of Japanese teams, then that would be a satisfactory build-up. But this is not a build-up, it is merely a "bridge game." The LA Galaxy would be a reasonable bridge game if they thought about it.

A satisfactory build-up consist of at least 4-6 games playing against similar styled teams at a suitable competitive level. Other than the game against the Phoenix, the other games are just merely bridge games not build-up games. The whole idea is not to just to get used to the pace and competitive level, but to understand how to contain the attacking style of the other team as well as developing a number of tactics that would be used to exploit in the real games that matters. A win or a lost in a lead up game is irrelevant so long as they gain some insight and insiders information on the opponents.

Can a midtable Chinese side give you information on Adelaide or Gamba?

To date, only the "build up" game against the Nix gave all their information to start with at least with a few scout information. The biggest information will be actually playing them beforehand. The next best information will playing against a team that has regularly played them (hopefully with some success). Only the Phoenix falls close to this category, not Greentown or Auckland or any of the O-league side.

Their build up preparation is a complete failure in my eyes. Adding to that, Adelaide has seen the game against the Nix and knows their weakness and style type and so Waitakere is going to be hosed down big time.

I say that the first goal by Adelaide is going to happen in the first 15 minutes.

However if Waitakere beat Adelaide it will prove they are the best team in New Zealand and clearly a far better team than the Phoenix.

..despite the 7 - 0 whupping the Nix Reserves gave them a few weeks ago....

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Yes, Phoenix beat beat Waitakere 7 - 0 so are already the better team. And anyway there is more chance of me flying to the moon than Waitakere beating Adelaide.

If the miracle happens it'll only be because we softened them up last Friday...

i expect it not to be such a blow out as some are expecting. Im thinking more like a 4-1 loss.

I think Waitakere will (hopefully) play better than they did against the Phoenix reserves. The big stage.. the top line up on the park.. studying the oposition for weeks etc.

Even though i am not a Waitakere support i hope they do well. I hope for a win as that would be amazing..

Waitak in with a sniff though I reckon....but it will be on penalties.

"Vidmar confirmed at the official pre-game press conference that Cassio and Ognenovski have not recovered from the virus they picked up on the flight to Japan, while Diego has failed to recover from an injury picked up in last Friday nights 6-1 thrashing of Wellington Phoenix."

From the A-League website.

I say tackle him in the face.

The sort of softening up that the NZF has done to the NZFC....Well really its more akin to Gary Glitter and the 5c,   50c joke

So Adelaide beat Nix 6-1. And Nix beat Y-tak 7-0.
Mmmm the maths on that is 13-1 when Adelaide play the best of the West.
Anything else is a bonus.
Oceania's spot is hanging by a thread, as threatened last year.
Two more years they said. I reckon the'll just knock it on the head this year.
I hate to be the eternal pessimist, but there is not a lot of sun on the NZ football horizon at the moment.

no, the maths doesnt quite work like that. you take the goal difference in each match and multiply them by each other - so we are looking at 7*5 - so it should be 35 nil to Adelaide

Deep down Loz actually loves NZF and shares many of Glyn Taylor's personal beliefs.

Three for me, and two for them.

crikey, how damned hard is it to put a scoring and timing graphic on the page?  I am very bemused that it's up to the broadcaster to do this, it seems any official FIFA footage comes with no timing or scoring graphic (ala U20 WC on Sky and anything on TVNZ).

Oh well, at least my other channel has it down pat

Whiter Kerry (as the Aussies call them) giving a good account of themselves after 15 mins. Krishna copped a yellow for absolutely nothing and he's still flying into tackles. Easy there, young fella...

Amazin the ref didn't blow for a foul on the keeper. Usually you only have to cough on the keeper and it's a foul.
