If Fred is correct and this pans out, and given it is June now, what are realistic options for NZF?

Seek urgent EOI for 2018/19 season, go with 9 clubs, other?

All you do is the cheap model like WaiBOP did. Tell the players that you are now actually amateurs and if you are not interested, there are other people that will take it.

No need to be that much in the red, if you don't pay players when they should not be paid. I wonder what Stephen Williams has to say about it.

It seems Waitakere have got another licence ............ does not seem to matter if you owe players, coaches and sponsors money ...... Whats everyone's thoughts ? As im sure a club that is debt free would love the opportunity to apply for the licence.

It seems that NZF dish out licenses like lollies at a kid party. Have a look at the money that Team Wellington and Hawkes Bay United owe. Both of them have big negative equity. Both can be seen on the Inc Society website. Very scarey.

Still Team Wellington is probably in a better position, they made a profit last year but owe over $100k in equity. They'll now have the Club World Cup to come into some money to pay that down.

NZF sticking with the devil they know rather than risking two devils (Fallon/Manakau, Edge/Ole) they don't.

There is no way I would give Manukau United a national league franchise at this point - they have had a decent start but from lessons learnt lets wait to see if they are the real deal, and I'm talking about off the pitch here.

yeah they can believe it but it's far too early to be giving them the keys to the national league front door.

what's your beef with Manukau United? Can't really understand the reasoning behind it? Tasman were a completely new side and they've done alright. Is it you see them as a threat to Eastern Suburbs?

Manukau ala Mangere United have a history of having a good couple seasons then going tits up when the money runs out. Its not a massive secret in Auckland.

As Chopah said, just wait and watch. Good to have ambition but lets see if they can give at least 5 years sustained and Northern Prem level first.

yeah cuz they are my closest ISPS club - i honestly just don't want to see another Waitakere - that's why we are discussing this in this thread - I'm not 100% behind what Vader says about giving them 5 years - but I do agree there has been peaks and dips involving Mangere so we need to give them some time to see if they are the real deal or not.

This is their first year in NRFL Premier. There are other clubs that have better track records. If thats their ambition, let them get runs on the board at this level 1st or as Chopah said, there will be another Waitakere.

Seems that Waitakere has turned into a massive train wreck owing $200k and players not wanting to go there cause there they have not been paid. Somehow, they got their licence renewed...

You know, if we had promotion / relegation none of this would be an issue. Poorly run clubs would sink. Well run clubs with a proven track record would swim

From what I understand there's a push to get Waitakere into the hands of another chairman and have it run differently with Williamson not involved but given it's a vanity project for him I don't know. Have the feeling he'd rather see the whole thing go tits up than lose face.

The problem  in this case is  that Waitakere did not finish bottom so therefore would not be involved in any relegation.

Yes for sure, but if what has been leveled at Williamson here is true, these practices are unsustainable and therefore they would eventually slide

EDIT, interesting that you should make this point, leads me to question why good players like collett, butler, linderbloom etc would be happy to stay if they weren't given what they were promised

As someone involved at Manukau, we're not looking for a 2018/19 license or probably a 2019/20 license.

As we've repeatedly said, our first aim is to establish a long term South Auckland side in the NRFL Premier Division.

Long term a National League spot would be nice, but given there's only three or four clubs from South Auckland in the whole NRFL at the minute (and Rewa look to being dropping into Div 2 and Papakura might drop out of the league) and it's a huge catchment area for football - look at the number of clubs operating down there, and the lack of representation higher up the league pyramid.

The aim is to get Manukau sorted, continue to grow the club and the partner clubs as well, and be in a position to make a bid for a license. I'm not sure there's anything wrong with stating that now.

One thing can't be denied, Centre Park is a bloody nice ground - if it gets a set of floodlights to bring it up to OFC standards, it'll be one of the best grass pitch venues in Auckland.

From what I understand the money would start but dry up, then the next season they might get a lump sum to cover the previous and then the same would happen. I know player payments stopped with 7 rounds to go last season.

Wow

And I guess the players who stay on are put at the top of the list for receiving the previous season's payment

This type of financial management is common at all levels of the game.  Look on The Companies' Office  there are Central League Clubs recording significant losses.

Wow. thats a huge call. I would have Waitakere and Kiwitea ahead of those two easily. Also Birkos ground. Sports look pretty good on Sat too.

Centre Park is an odd one. It looks fantastic and you'd think it would be smooth as butter, but when actually playing on it, it moulds into what feels like a bobbly beach.

Centre park is an awful pitch due to overuse.  It gets overused as a way to bring revenue into the club to pay player wages.  (which is fine by me)

Waitakere City (of Fred Taylor Park) is no longer a member of Waitakere United, as of the middle of 2018. So if there IS any money (or promises of money!), at Fred Taylor, it wont be for Waitakere United players.....

The plot is getting so thick it's applying for a management role at NZF.
