Waitakere, but only cos I live here.
I nearly went off them last season when I saw the strip they'd be playing in, a Lotto-produced abomination that made the players look like they been attacked by the Zodiac killer. So that shows how deep my loyalties go.
If I move to Hawkes Bay next year as is myself and 'er indoors' plan, I'll readily switch my allegiances to the local lads.

Three time champions Auckland City.

Three for me, and two for them.

Well I founded Waikato FC and up until Roger Wilkinson got the job they were my team. He said some things about me and the people who founded the Waikato FC club at the Melville United clubrooms just prior to him taking up the post at Auckland City. Then he got sacked by Auckland and suddenly he was running back home to Waikato looking for a job...well, it don't work like that for me.
Roger is a good coach and I have no doubt about that but there are personality issues between him and me and I'm not wasting my time lifting a finger for the franchise until he has gone, or I get an apology and I know that the latter won't be a happening thing. I don't go to Wanderers games either because he coaches there.
So, Manawatu were the side I watched in the old natioanal league and I have some good friends at Auckland City so I'll be following Auckland City and Youngheart Manawatu until Waikato have a change of coach.

I support anybody who plays good football:
  • any team that comes to Kiwitea St and beats Auckland (Otago, Hawke's Bay, but Waitakere can't!)
  • Auckland City because they keep scoring more goals than they concede
  • any side that fields players like Grant Young, Commins Menapi, Keiran Jordan, Benjamin Totori, Graham Little (not that I'm biased about strikers or anything)
  • Waitakere United because they can't beat Auckland City  (go figure ... it's an underdog thing ... they have to beat them once sometime ... don't they?)
football tragic for too long

Canterbury United or the Dragons as they are now known. Was at Kiwitea St for the final they lost on penalties, with my 12 year old son. We loved it. What a great game! Sat behind Brockies dad and gave as good as we got to their supporters in the stand. This is what football is all about.

They had a very good group of younger talent last year. Considering how Napier City Rovers used to be at the top end of the leagues they were in is their a problem getting guys to play for Hawkes Bay, similar to Wellington?

Any team that makes the club world cup. Actually, Auckland's performance there last year sparked my love-affair with NZ football. Even though they're Auckland's rivals, I'm going for Waitakere right now to beat those smug J-Leaguers and make the world cup this year.

Would like to start a Poll on this so we can identify numbers per team better but when creating a Poll there are only 5 slots not 8 - can any Admin help us out with this?

Numbers on the count up excluding those who rambled about multiple teams.

ACFC - 6
Waitak - 2
Team Well - 2 - very surprising
Waikato - 1
Manawatu - 5
H/Bay - 2
Cant - 3
Otago - 3

I'm a Waikato fan in exile hahaha. Supporting Auckland City until Waikato change their coach. I used to think Roger was a good guy but after a conversation that sort of turned into an argument in the Melville United clubrooms, I decided to focus on getting involved with Auckland City a little more. As soon as Roger goes, I'll pop back and watch them and maybe take some pix but I've got better things to do with my life that waste them on people who have no appreciation.

Ha ha - all good KC - wasn't just you there were a couple - in fact based on seeing you at Kiwitea so often I think I counted you as one of us.

Central/Auckland City runs a good club. I've always enjoyed going there and I'm pretty friendly with a few on the board of Auckland City anyway regardless of the rivalry between them and Waikato. I may even get in a good word about AC in Soccer Talk with a letter to the editor regarding Graham Seatters comments on the club being "Second Rate" in the Herald yesterday.
I will probably also open myself up for crap from Phoenix fans for suggesting that the Phoenix shouldn't have the NZ Spot for the O-League. I'm of the opinion that the Phoenix are under the Asian Football Confed umbrella so why should NZF be suggesting they represent New Zealand - when any kiwi football fan in their right mind would expect the champion NZFC side to be the rep.
Graham Seatter needs to pull his head out of his ass and focus on the local game cos that is his mandate. He's getting all tied up in the glossy hi fulutin stuff and he needs to have a think about where his focus really should be. I wouldn't tell him how to do his job but if he wants to lose kiwi football fans then he can continue on the path he is taking.

i'm with ya canary.  i reckon a club like auckland wouldn't be too far away from being able to go at least semi pro anyway.  this out to be encouraged rather than having the rug swept from beneath the local game.

Auckland FC would be able to do it. It's a pity other clubs or franchises seem reluctant to copy their model. It's great seeing what a club like ACFC/Central can do but it would be even better to replicate their setup across the country. It would only strengthen the game here and that is what we need.
