When I recently went to Wellington to watch TW v ACFC I was astounded by the lack of people there. If you took away the travelling ACFC support, Albert Rierra, the players mums and dads, Maureen behind the bar and Bill on the gate, then there were two people there I think - a father and son to my left and good on them. Where was the support for TW? I can only assume that they were all either still in Christchurch or recovering from the previous days 'home' Wellington Phoenix game in Christchurch. Disappointing.

This got me thinking though. The ACFC support is called the 248 Service Crew as the bus to to Kiwitea St is the number 248. TW support could call themselves the 2 service crew and that could be based on both the bus number to DF park and the number of fans.

As for caring about TW: I know I don't. Not this year.

I've been as active a Team Welly supporter as most, and we (Yellow Fever) have put money into them over the years, but this year there aren't any local lads playing and the league is just so deathly uninteresting that I can't find any motivation to go.

I've still been to a couple of home games, but I definitely won't be wasting an afternoon's potential drinking at the stadium tomorrow.

If the NZF and Yellow Beavers showed a fucking tow nails worth of the passion that City fans have for their team for the ASBP and TW then it would go a long way towards giving us a decent league.

Blaming the imports, quality of football, pokie money etc etc only goes so far. We as fans need to take a whole lot of the responsibility for the success of football in this country and avoiding games because your team is dire or has no local lads is not helping...

Oh they have answered that Tegal. They don't care about who is in the shirt at all. Loyalty is a thing of nothing at Kiwitea as long as you don't tell everyone where the brown envelope comes from.

Oddly enough, they don't care about who wears the shirt at Kiwitea but the instant an Aussie journeyman is signed for the Phoenix......

The fact is, you want respect for what you guys do but you are so quick to slag off other franchises and supporters and you know you do it for the reaction. Can I just say that I like Auckland City. I'm traditional Waikato, but love watching games at Kiwitea St, and appreciate the drive, passion and eye for detail around the place (even if I would prefer they lose to my team a bit more often) . Respect to the Auckland fans/club members who make Kiwitea St such a fantastic football venue.

i have a solution to this - just remove any reference to the ASB Premiership from this site and then ACFC can host discussions about the Premiership and ACFC on their website and we won't continue to have these silly arguments week after week after week...

ACFC v the All Whites.

Based on the Raja game, I am not sure the All Whites would win.

In fact the ACFC passing game was competent, crisp and Casablanca fell silent every time the ball came to our strikers.

Plus 1, except replace ACFC with your own team. This league is what it is, stop bemoaning what it isn't - because we can't change anything, it is what it is - and support your team in what and for what it is!

If you don't like the makeup of your team, get involved.

If you don't like the make up of other teams, let NZF know and agitate for a rule change.

I know this thread is a wishlist but what are the SERIOUS suggestions for getting this league back on track.  Forget pokies discussions because we've done that to death, but in the current environment what would improve the league?

JD honestly in the current environment the league is pretty poked IMHO.

I certainly can't think of any low hanging fruit.

let the franchises run it , some form of promotion relegation ,..... actually the kindest thing would be to put it down I think it is knackered ....

You can be relied on to be bitter and twisted about ACFC while hiding your identity JV but to dismiss the loyalty of the ACFC supporters is a new low in your anti-ACFC bile. I think your feverish 24/7 posting on every topic going is making you loopy. or is it loopier?

Look JV, I get you hate ACFC. I get you think anyone born outside NZ can't be a real Kiwi. I get you don't like the boisterous multi-national players and supporters at Kiwitea Street. Of course there's a simple option, don't set foot in the ground. We can enjoy watching and supporting the ASBP and you can go kick a cat or something and we'll all be happy.

Eight franchises of the standard and facilities of ACFC, Canterbury and Hawkes Bay would make a huge difference. So would NZF investment in its own national league. A serious sponsor with deep pockets would also help. It can be done but not by tearing down the most successful franchise ACFC, as some on this forum want. That's the negative view. The positive view is to build on the best of what we've got.

As an aside I wonder how secure the Welnix commitment is to losing a million or two dollars every year on the Phoenix, compared to the durability of the trust/sponsorship funding and O League winnings for the ASBP? Could the ASBP actually be more secure in the long term than the Phoenix? Just asking.
