I have been looking through the forums trying to find a current upto date list of chants. i either didnt look very well or there isnt one.
im rather new with supporting the phoenix im up in Palmerston north but only missed one home game this year and loving everything about football.
i picked up a few chants but was wondering if someone could list the current chants or even old chants?
thanks heaps

There's a "we don't do chant sheets" faction within the Yellow Fever so you probably won't find one. Apparently getting new fans like yourself up to speed is not a priority. I think the objection is that 'real' football fans shouldn't need song sheets, and that if they were any good they'd learn them on the run.
Personally I think that's madness. The more people singing the better, and the more people that know what to sing the more people will actually sing.
Oh well.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.
Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.

As a casual fan myself, I oppose chant sheets because they're inflexible. The beauty of football chants is that they shift and evolve depending on what happens at the game, and if you have a bunch of people who've memorised it one way and will do it that way forever and ever, it takes a lot of the spontaneity and the fun out of it.
I think the best way to learn the chants is to stand in the YF zone and just copy the people around you (and they can correct you if you're putting the wrong emphasis on "DODGY KEEPER" ;). Most of the chants ("wind, rain, Phoenix", "same old Aussies, always cheating" etc) can be learned in three minutes flat if you have half a brain and you're standing in the zone. On the other hand, reading this forum is the best way to get the vibe of the longer and more complicated ones.

I disagree with that. They are not inflexible.
Chant/song sheets were used in the early days of the Kingz (when there were a LOT of people for whom singing at a game was a completely foreign concept). The chant sheets changed every week. Sure they didn't change DURING a game, but the idea of the sheets was not to say this is what you must sing and this is THE ONLY things you can sing...
...it was to help swell the numbers of people willing to get into singing by overcoming their shyness because they were not sure of the words. Chants did still evolve during games, and the good/popular/funny ones made it onto the reprint of the sheets for the folllowing game.
Having said that, I completely agree that it's not hard to pick most of the chants up by standing close...

Yeah I have seen that post, and it is SO out of date I figured it was pretty much irrelevant for the purposes of this discussion...

Just film yourselves chanting at the games, then upload the vids to youtube, and post them here. The kids learn the chants, no need for chant sheets or practise, win - win.
