For some reason I got to thinking about the song He's football crazy and it's similarity to the MOTD theme

Does anyone know the connection - is MOTD a direct copy of Football Crazy?

There is no connection from what I am aware.

Robin Hall and Jimmy MacGregor sang(?) Football Crazy and dates from about 1960

MOTD dates from 1970 and is called "Offside"

I'm slightly disappointed!

I can hear the resemblence to "Kookaburra sits in an old gum tree"...

Here's an interesting account of early versions of Football Crazy.

I wouldn't be surprised if "Offside" was influenced by football crazy, they sound too similar (Although not exactly the same).

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

Isn't it pronounced "Tottingham"

Anyway, Snookering You Tonight by Captain Sensible (from The Hunting of the Snark and used as the theme to Big Break) was a far superior Snooker related song.

Back to football... Both MOTD and Football Crazy are on a CD "the best footie anthems in the world...ever!" along with Fog on the Tyne (Gazza), Diamond Lights (hoddle and waddle and Grandstand

I'm slightly disappointed!

"Ossie's going to Wembley, his knees have gone all trembly" - Surely the greatest lyric of all-time, ever, in a football related song. And I'm certainly no Tottingham fan!

I'm slightly disappointed!
