There are a lot of Nix fans of British extraction.
Is this a bad thing?

I think mostly it's a good thing, and they bring a lot of enthusiasm to the crowd.

But it does mean we seem to be singing British songs rather than NZ ones.
Granted, there are some good ones there, but shouldn't we be creating our own football culture?

But occassionally, it's a bit strange:
At the last home game, some people in aisle 23 were chanting 'clap if you hate Chelsea'

I don't see what they've got against an Auckland sugar company, but what does it have to do with the Phoenix?

yes i know that, but i believe the influence of the poms is to great. I believe the Fever needs more Kiwi and more Scottish to be successful. and get the irish and welsh into it!

Yeah - it's just like in Melbourne there is a huge greek and italian influence with supporters.  (and some British too)

We dont really have NZ songs. We're slowly creating our own..

Though the "clap your hands if you hate Chelsea" is rather annoying...

Allegedly

I went to Upton Park on Monday night with James Dean, and am thinking that West Ham crowds are now too Kiwi.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

I think they meant Chelsea Clinton - she is quite minging

NZ doesnt have a football supporter culture - so one needs to be slowly built up

Gold Feverish,

And we are starting Wellington football culture, not exactly representative of New Zealand.
Once again we are reminded of Aucklands football culture.

If it was Kiwi - we would have one word chants (like Chelsea before they got rich)
And be smoking pot in the stands - instead of the toilets.
And the kids would be chanting  - get into him, or I will f**k you up.

Answer to Bevan, no it isn't.

Only when they're doing well... when they're crap they're Scottish... very similar to the 'Russell' effect I witnessed in Aussie

Correct. Unfortunately.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Just start more songs, sing more shows and be sure you have no voice the following morning.....

Needs more passion....get into it.....no excuses!!!!

I don't care if they're from Britain, Burundi or Betelgeuse, so long as they are in the Ring of Fire and singing their hearts out for the lads. Ridiculous thread.

The Melbourne game was the first match I have been able to get to (commute from Beijing is a bit long) and it was just fantastic. Great atmosphere and I'll remember it for ages. Everyone I showed the after match chanting clip to thought it looked great too. In other words it isn't too anything...its fine so keep building it up in the same way.

Big big respect to those who started YellowFever in the first place and those who watch games in the Fever Zone and sing and chant. . Don't analyse it, just keep the same passion.

I didn't say that I cared either way; I was just curious about what people's reactions would be.

Everyone is welcome at the Ring of Fire, and that's the way it should be!
